Mannion should start on Saturday. He was excellent tonight9

Really good effort, obviously too good for us in the end, it really doesn’t matter. Miles was very good tonight, we really need the owners to help out and push some signings over the line, we needed fresh blood before the game,we now need them more.3

I left the ground on 90 mins, thinking we'd lost 1-3. Get home to find out that wasn't the case. Although we were second best for most of the match, I thought we gave a good account of ourselves and 1-5 in hugely flattering for them. Leaburn was immense tonight and also thought Gough looked decent and not out of place. Oh well, maybe next year.5

BBC commentator “even I can see that’s a penalty”.5

I dont Think Jones would kick the ground without contact. The defender definitely put his foot forward from behind. Perhaps cameras didn't show contact, but the ref wasn't relying on VAR.EugenesAxe said:

I'm not sure I agree. Mannion got the ball then the man. Never a penalty.up_the_valley said:Charlton pen wasn't a pen. Chelsea pen wasn't a pen. Chelsea get the pen. What a surprise..
Jones went to kick the ball and the defender tackled him from behind without touching the ball. Pen all day long.0 -

I said earlier - he did multiple things that Kaminski would have been getting pelters for.cafc4life said:Mannion should start on Saturday. He was excellent tonight
He made a few nice saves but his save with his legs was partially responsible for Chelsea’s third goal. And he spilled a cross in the first five minutes in front of the Covered End but got away with it.
I think people are harsh on Kaminski (rightly or wrongly) because they have higher expectations, while the results with Mannion are highly likely to actually be worse. But we rate him higher because he outperforms expectations as a free signing from Cambridge.

Pushed at least 3 or 4 shots back into the danger zone, just like Kaminski has done in the past.cafc4life said:Mannion should start on Saturday. He was excellent tonight
Lots of glazing of his performance tonight, he made a few decent saves but he doesn't look any better than Kaminski IMO, they're both bang average14 -
I’m a little disappointed, don’t think we had a real go at them, appreciate the gulf in quality etc 1st half I get it kept it reasonable safe 0-1 down 2nd half one off game come out and have a go, but it seemed like we were still playing safe, just my my opinion, really hope those injuries are not serious otherwise we are in deep shit.

Mannion played well today.
We didn’t embarrass ourselves despite the score.
Chelsea are cheating scum who should have been relegated to the Combined Counties league about 20 years ago.6 -

I hate modern day football & pity all those of you born after 2000.
40 years ago we would have attacked them from the off. Keeper would have kicked the ball downfield & our front men would have fought for the ball. Chelsea would then attack & would probably score. But they wouldn't spend 10 mins passing it fucking sideways going nowhere.
I remember the FA Cup tie against Spurs in 1981. Held them a draw at The Valley & narrowly lost at WHL. (There were replays in those days & it was delayed a few times due to heavy snow). None of this keep ball for 10 mins looking for an opening.
This evening was a poor advertisement for football.imo.

Really surprised to come on here and see him getting praised. Goalkeeping for their third was woeful.Callumcafc said:

Can anybody explain why TC stands in way offside positions at free kicks and corners? Leaburn's goal my have been offside tonight as TC was standing in an offside position Infront of their goalie. It's a mystery to me although obviously under instruction.6

I’m mixed on Mannion. He dealt well with Chelsea’s long-range efforts, pulling off some impressive flying saves, but anything low seemed to get parried back into danger and cause havoc in the six-yard box. I also thought he could have done better with the third goal — I’m not quite sure how he ended up blocking the initial shot with his legs, which is what led to it in the first place.

Gave it a go. We had little control of possession, lots to improve on if we ever want to fight for the CL spots2

Transfermarkt has our squad’s total market value as €27.6m and Chelsea’s as €1.19bn. By my calcs they’re 43 times more valuable than we are.Dazzler21 said:
It's based on the match day squad not full squad. That would be closer to £25m for us and £1bn for them lol.valleynick66 said:
£10-15. I don’t think so.Dazzler21 said:Chelsea squad value tonight: £470m
Charlton squad value tonight: £10-15m#undisclosed.I didn’t see them playing 43 times better than us - so we’re clearly punching above our weight!!!6 -
I disagree. He is much better than Kaminski in my opinion.sam3110 said:

I hate to say it, but the sideways, tiki-taka style that’s so prevalent now does work if you’ve got the quality to pull it off — and Chelsea showed that tonight. They scored five without ever really looking stretched.golfaddick said:But they wouldn't spend 10 mins passing it fucking sideways going nowhere.

Can’t see how mannion gets blame for 3rd goal. He saw it late as it went through LJs legs. Purely reactionary6

1-5 is an awful scoreline, but I'm not annoyed with how the Addicks played this evening. They did themselves proud in my opinion. What pisses me off, is if they had played like that through that run of terrible results, well, it wouldn't have been a run of terrible results!8

Personally think we should've got into them more, especially first half, but they showed more quality and moved the ball around really well without doing much with it initially. They went down a bit and got free kicks that wouldn't be given in Championship.
1st was decent hit, could we of closed down more especially Kelman after a block?
2nd I wasn't sure was a free kick, Jones was adamant player was then offside
3rd fell straight to their player after Mannion saved
4th through bodies at pace
5th wasn't a penalty.
Not seen replays so straight from what I thought at the time.
Thought ref had a prem bias. Knows Chelsea players and wonder if knowing that VAR isn't in operation affects the 'elite' refs as how often do they do it without it nowadays?
Another ref might even given their no.5 a second yellow for a late challenge in first half. Jones seemed unhappy at the time it wasn't given.
Overall thought 3-1 was fair, 5-1 was harsh.15 -
We gave it a go. Forgot how good Prem players are in the flesh, their touch and passing was sublime and that was mainly their reserves. They are so soft though and the refs just play into it. I like the Championship and we now have to get some help in to make sure we stay in it.11
-
We competed so well, just the gulf in class was very evident. Thought Leaburn and Mannion were superb.
Shame we let the 3rd goal in , as that deflated us after getting back into it.
A positives-taking performance.
Such a shame about Bell - well, we def need to get that cheque book out for the left hand side now.5 -
I was expecting Miles to walk in our doors but Will was a lovely chap to speak to. There was only 10-12 people left when he arrived and he had a chat with everyoneoohaahmortimer said:Man of the match Will Mannion in the lounge

The 2nd I thought TC got the ball 1st so wasn't a fk. Poorly defended though.2

Sounds like he’s fuming with the third goal and I’m guessing how similar it was to what happened at Blackburn.3
