The burn mark on the pitch by the tunnel caused by the pyro looked like it had damaged the surface.

Anyone get any photos or videos of the pre-match atmosphere? Was in the C.E.L so couldn't quite tell but it felt like the whole stadium was turned off apart from us, and we were bathed in a weird light for the Pyro etc

Isnt the whole fireworks display a tad embarrassing for a third round game?! 😂

maybe they think it will convince the kids to come back?

Pretty much happens at every evening game in the top flight now. Lights out, displays.

Just the way the game is. Not sure why it’s embarrassing.

Has the club said anything about the state of the pitch? hard, bobbly and patchy.

    Incidentally, I wasn’t at all impressed with it’s condition.🫤
It looked really poor considering we've not played on much recently.

I thought it looked fantastic , especially when all the lights went out.  What is slightly embarrassing is when the mobile phone lights are on as if it was a Taylor swift Concert. Having said that , if it's kids and not grown men , then let them enjoy the moment.

It’s been played on plenty, and compared to where it was last season, it looks good, seen some premier league ones in a worse state

QPR's pitch looks much worse, for example.

Does anyone know if we have a boiler/working under soil heating system?
    Was it used Saturday?
Did we have to hire a boiler?
Up until recently it was the same set up since it was installed. On Saturday it had changed but just out of eyeline, could be as there was a TNT Sports camera there but looked like more pipes now coming our of the system and a water tank of some sort.

Dunno but I definitely saw the lights go out at the Emirates against Liverpool and a recent evening game at City. It's just a thing.

If done poorly it can be tacky but I don't think ours was at all.

How can you hire a boiler of that capacity for a one off event.
Just to commission it, flush out and fill the system, hook it up to the necessary utilities it and instal one that size for a one off event, it would take a good few days and cost a bomb…..virtually impossible and certainly not cost effective……IMHO!
It’s a very large (most likely free standing) industrial item…….nothing remotely like a domestic one.
Well we did it a few years back, so you're wrong (sorry).
Which is why I'm asking if we did again.

Me and my Old Man both thought the pitch looked great. No idea how hard or bobbly it is when you walk on it, but it looked like a snooker table from where we were sat in the Upper West.

Places like Birmingham do it for every game now, it's way more common than people think
  • I’m wondering if they wanted it a little bobbly to disrupt Chelsea and suit a physical long ball game that we were more likely to try. Not that it worked.

Well, Lampard (Coventry) felt the same about our pitch
  • I thought it looked a bit threadbare in front of the East stand.  I mean, for a million quid you'd want better, I assume they have some kind of guarantee?

    Last game was 21st December.

Don't forget which team got the grant of £750,000 for the pitch.

the patch by the east stand gets hammered by the warm ups, it's just a high pressure area of the pitch where the players are chewing it up with the activation drills, maybe that needs to move. But the goal mouths look good, the pitch runs true, and the weather has been shit for about a month. It looks really good, just something for people to moan about

How does one guarantee grass will grow when it's been as frosty and wet as it has been this winter?

Makes a lot of sense isn't that the patch where they do the high knees into sprint outs.

It's that area, then the subs do a set of warm ups there pre match as well, it's probably the area where the pitch is put under the most stress.

There and the touchline in front of the tunnel, as a lot of players prefer to do their sprint warmups on the grass and not the astro turf down there

How can we forget. Loan of 750,000 pounds
to allow the women to play at The Valley for ten years. If the women move on or cease then we have to give back the 750,000 pounds.

To be fair I read the comment by @CombeMartin as two teams play on the pitch not moaning that the women's team play on it. 🤔
