Charlton Athletic are delighted to announce the permanent signing of Scotland international Lyndon Dykes.
Amidst a host of interest, the experienced frontman joins for the remainder of the 2025/26 campaign to become the Addicks’ second signing of the week following the arrival of defender Harry Clarke.
Managing Director James Rodwell commented: “During this transfer window we wanted to add Championship experience and quality to our striking options, so we’re really pleased to sign Lyndon. He’s played more than 150 Championship games and has shown he can be an impactful player in this league, so we’re looking forward to welcoming him to the club.”
Manager Nathan Jones added: “We’re delighted to bring Lyndon to the club. He’s a big, physical striker who works hard, scores goals and brings plenty of Championship experience, giving us another strong option in attack.”
Dykes said: “I'm super pleased and I can't wait to get going. It's going to be really exciting for myself and my family, and I think there's going to be good times to come.”
Born and raised in the Gold Coast of Queensland, Australia, the striker represented Mudgeeraba, Merrimac, Redlands United, Gold Coast City and Surfers Paradise Apollo before sealing a permanent move to Queen of the South in the summer of 2016.
While with the Scottish Championship outfit, Dykes scored 23 goals and provided 34 assists in 136 games to earn a switch to Scottish Premiership side Livingston.
After finishing as Livingston’s top scorer in his debut season, he moved to Queens Park Rangers for a significant undisclosed fee in the summer of 2020 and would go on to enjoy four years in west London.
During his time at Loftus Road, Dykes bagged 37 goals, registered 12 assists and established himself as a regular in the Scotland national team, who he has now earned 48 caps for, scoring 10 times.
In August 2024, he joined Birmingham City for an undisclosed fee and helped the Blues lift the Sky Bet League One title during his first campaign at St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park, before featuring 23 times this term.

Great signing - how will he fit in, i wonder ?

Surprised it's a permanent deal, I guess with his contract up in the summer we've essentially taken on the last 6 months of it from Birmingham8
-
Don't mind this signing tbh similar to leaburn style wins headers etc alot of champ experience can keep intensity up in games if rotating them.5
-
Blimey. No moaning yet. Lol6

6 month deal. Was he out of contract with Birmingham at the end of the season?0
-
Odd one. Assuming no money has changed hands & we've simply taken over his contract to the end of the season.1

Now get the Aussie kid at LWB to feed the front line and we're on our way again.2

Hate the tats, love the stats. Welcome.13

this - I am happy with it. Allows us to bring on a physical option at the end of games even as Leaburn tires. Allows us to rotate them. Experienced player Miles can learn from. No downside really.Steven81 said:Don't mind this signing tbh similar to leaburn style wins headers etc alot of champ experience can keep intensity up in games if rotating them.14 -
Him being on a “permanent” deal means he’ll be able to play in the home game against Birmingham as well.32

Perm seems strange given its a short term contract but if that was the only way to get him in then fair enough, not like we're committing to 2 years or anything.
A decent enough option, not too disappointed as one thing we've been lacking is a proper experienced front man with Godden out and as seen from the signing of costello - that exp can bring a lot to a survival fighting side even if they're not the right "quality" people are wanting.
Clear targetman gives rotation/ cover for Leaburn.1 -
Should hopefully be a convenient deal for both partiesDykes needs game time and goals to secure his place at the World Cup in the summerWe need someone to score goals to help us survive... If he does well for us, we can consider looking at a longer deal, if he has a great World Cup then he's got the freedom to go on to better things next season. Not to mention I know about Clarke and Dykes ahead of writing my Preview for the weekend
Win for everyone really12 -
Is it really just for 6 months? Can also read that as it’s permanent but he’s joining with only half the season remaining.sam3110 said:Surprised it's a permanent deal, I guess with his contract up in the summer we've essentially taken on the last 6 months of it from Birmingham0 -
Read the comments from the Brum fans under their Twitter announcement. Super positive and respectful for him and his time at their club14

since 2020 he's scored about 1 in 5. Not good imo for a striker. And for someone playing in this side I expect them to be even worse.blackheathcanuck said:Hate the tats, like the stats. Welcome.
But I'll give him a chance before slating him. You'll know by 3.20pm Saturday......

Will split minutes with Leaburn.BigDiddy said:Great signing - how will he fit in, i wonder ?
We have 21 games left - would not be surprised to see one of them start 11 of those and the other 10.
It’s a critical position in the team and this should allow us to keep it fresh up there.8 -

Not particularly excited about this one, however I do think he could be effective with the way we play.If he grabs a few goals and keeps us in the division it’ll be good business.7

Probably similar to what we said about Chuks...DamoNorthStand said:Read the comments from the Brum fans under their Twitter announcement. Super positive and respectful for him and his time at their club2 -
He went from the Gold Goast to Dumfries. That must have come as a shock, lol.22

Not overly excited about this deal either... Get Hemed vibes... But he's a Charlton player now and gets my full supportMakes me laugh that it happened, given the rumour of his interaction with Nathan after the game recently. At least he'll be able to face Birmingham as well when we host them in the League7

Fit and ready to go Saturday...4

In fairness, this season he has 2 goals in 420 minutes. That’s not even 5 games worth of football.golfaddick said:

For 2 years Birmingham have mostly just brought him on for the last 10-30 minutes of games so judging his record by goals per appearance is very harsh9 -
Never been a big fan of this guy. Agree re: Hemed. However, if it means we’re going to continue playing 2 strikers ie Leaburn / dykes with Kelman/Godden and not reverting back to the failing TC up front situation, I’m at least happy with that and try and protect Leaburn a bit at points, who could easily get injured again. Pray not!3

As noted by Cawley, the curious thing is that he joined Brum in summer 2024 and signed a THREE year deal, so would have been under contract until the summer of 2027, and not this summer, so has swapped 1.5 years at Brum for 6 months with us.8
