Lyndon Dykes signs a six month contract

I also hoping Leaburn Continues getting 80-90% of the minutes not 50-50 

I think he will do well, always looked an handful every time I’ve seen him play .

I think he's a player who has a place/job in the squad, a bit of muscle and thuggery up front to cover/support Leaburn, not a prolific goal scorer but hopefully Kelman and maybe Godden if/when he finally returns will cover that aspect.

Seems like a Jones kind of player in style and attitude, 6 months gives us time to look at other options in the future when things are less pressing perhaps.

Next up a LCB/LWB please 

Birmingham's own website says he signed a 3 year deal for them in 2024, so given that he would still have 18 months left, i'm not sure how we've managed to sign him for only 6 months. 

Either Birmingham gave him a pay off or he was really desperate to leave and get more minutes to try and make the Scotland squad for the world cup.

Dykes needs game time and goals to secure his place at the World Cup in the summer

We need someone to score goals to help us survive...  If he does well for us, we can consider looking at a longer deal, if he has a great World Cup then he's got the freedom to go on to better things next season.

Not to mention I know about Clarke and Dykes ahead of writing my Preview for the weekend

It's one that I don't instantly love but it equally makes complete sense. Last thing we need is Leaburn breaking down with another injury because he's playing too much and it's another experienced championship player in the building. Also let's Mbick stay at Colchester and develop there. 

6 month deal is a bit curious but probably makes sense for all parties with the world cup. 

A permanent short term deal is an odd one. Given that Jones seemed pretty set on him it implies that either the ownership aren't too psyched to have him or that if we've taken over his contract if we go down we don't want to be saddled with his wages. The most surprising thing about this is I could have sworn he was older than 30. Ultimately though he brings the kind of thing Leaburn does but with a great deal more experience. His job isn't to be prolific but to make sure the play takes place further up the pitch through his hold up play. Worth noting that in L1 he was often chosen ahead of Alfie May in the centre forward position because of the space he'd create for Stansfield behind him. I can see him helping get more out of Kelman, Campbell and Carey and that will hopefully be a good thing

I think Leaburn remains first choice and will start most games, if he keeps playing well. Dykes will probably feature in every game with the odd one being a start. If Leaburn’s form drops or he gets injured then we now have an experienced alternative

As it means 12 months from the end of this season (so 18 months from now), it,does seem a little odd that he agreed to just 6 months.

Not sure how you work that out? If he started in August 24, his 3 years would be up in August 27 so circa 7 + 12 = 19 months left? Told he had a falling out with the Brum boss.

Cawley mentioned on Twitter that he had 18 months left on his Birmingham deal until 2027 so not sure what happened to the missing 12 months.

I wouldn’t read anything into that. They may have announced 2027, but the 3rd year may have been provisional on certain appearance / performance achievements. Or they may have paid him up for the extra year.
