Lyndon Dykes signs a six month contract

Got a wonderful song for him along the theme of “oh Andy Hunt, is wonderful , he’s got a name, like a …..”
not sure it would cut the online mustard nowadays, but a dead cert for the covered end.0 -
He'll be wearing #99 on his shirt. Game's gone.10

1. Too many tattoos- may scare the opposition (if they are like me)
2.Too few goals-won't scare anyone
3. Happy to be proved wrong
4. If he gets to America god help him with ICE9 -
I think it’s the kind of practical signing that we just aren’t used to so it feels uninspiring. He means that 99% of the time we’ll have a tall option up the pitch as an out ball and an extra defender when needed at set pieces. He’ll also love to get on the end of any crosses we produce, is someone for Leaburn to learn off and provides some of the dark arts we miss that Hylton brought last season5

6 months seems ideal.
If he proves his worth we can give him a longer contract at the end of the season.
If he proves to be a dud we let him go.0 -
Proper Nathan Jones signing. Big lump, hard working and as hard as nails. Got a fair bit of streetsmarts too i would think
Hoping he's like a slightly better Jayden Stockley who brought us something different a few years ago and also has a point to prove to go to the world cup.

I believe things may have got a little heated with Lyndon and the Birmingham manager Chris Davies....hence finding new place to go and play was deemed best all roundkillerandflash said:As noted by Cawley, the curious thing is that he joined Brum in summer 2024 and signed a THREE year deal, so would have been under contract until the summer of 2027, and not this summer, so has swapped 1.5 years at Brum for 6 months with us.3 -

What were your expectations/targets to make you underwhelmed with a 6 month contract?0 -

that's some dark dark shade to throw at anyone who gets paid to play footballForeverAddickted said:Not overly excited about this deal either... Get Hemed vibes... But he's a Charlton player now and gets my full supportMakes me laugh that it happened, given the rumour of his interaction with Nathan after the game recently. At least he'll be able to face Birmingham as well when we host them in the League
Hemed is right near the bottom of the shittiest barrel Charlton have scraped in recent memory

Did we pay a fee for him?
With him signing and Godden nearing fitness, what does this mean for Tanto?0 -
Shirt number 99
Reckon he's done that just to piss off some on here5 -
If that’s true it’s the second player that’s left this week because of falling out with Davies. He must be feeling the pressureSwisdom said:

I’m underwhelmed at the moment because I’ve never really been impressed by him the times I’ve seen him play, admittedly I’ve not seen all his games, however he gets my support 100% and hope to be whelmed!!. The contract thing doesn’t bother me either way to be honest.TheHerminator said:quick question for htose who aren't too impressed with this signing.

I like the hard as nails bit. I’ve felt that in some of the games this season although we press and work hard off the ball, we’ve missed some physicality and shithousery.Swisdom said:Proper Nathan Jones signing. Oh no, please no one tell @Garrymanilow 🙈3

Not that it matters, but I don't rate him that highly. Happy to be proven wrong.1

PWR but could it have been 2 years plus a year option for Birmingham that he knew they werent taking up maybe?killerandflash said:As noted by Cawley, the curious thing is that he joined Brum in summer 2024 and signed a THREE year deal, so would have been under contract until the summer of 2027, and not this summer, so has swapped 1.5 years at Brum for 6 months with us.1 -
Same, and the comments from QPR and Birmingham fans as he left them seems to be nice guy, worked very hard, wasn't very good.MuttleyCAFC said:Not that it matters, but I don't rate him that highly. Happy to be proven wrong.

Couple of ways to look at this:sam3110 said:Shirt number 99

could be 99 as in a flake or alternatively,
indicative of a hard man (‘99’ used to be the call for an all in brawl in some Antipodean union/league/afl teams)0 -
It’s worked 😉sam3110 said:Shirt number 99

Wayne Gretzky was 99 - the Great One. Now a Trump acolyte. Oh dear.2

I'm expecting Leaburn to start games and Dykes to come on as the battering ram for the last half an hour, when we need a bit of a presence up top that alleviates pressure on our defence, or as a target man to disrupt defences and win long balls when we're chasing a goal late on.
Looking at his recent stats he doesn't start many games2 -
He could be a good sub as he puts himself about and if we are going to play around Leaburn which I think we should, he gives us an option for if he is injured or when he tires.North Lower Neil said:

I could see that. I watched the Amazon Birmingham program and thought Davies came across an obnoxious twat.Swisdom said:

Spent a lot of time at Surfers Paradise…one of his old clubs…love it…fair dinkum mate welcome aboard0

Wonder if Dykes is of the mindset he’s going to be a sub?, I say this because maybe that’s why he came to us rather than the other rumoured clubs?, more chance of longer game time.MuttleyCAFC said:
