Self confessed not his biggest fan, but we can't be beating him up on so many goals in appearances. Most were only 10/15 minutes. If (and it is a big one) he can replace Aneke in the big strong bulldozer with 20 minutes to go and free up some space for Godden or Kelman, I'll not care if he doesn't score 1.

Josh Parker helped get us promoted by acting as an effective foil for Taylor. Goals are not the only thing to measure a big striker by. Especially the way Jones wants us to play.
  • Picking 99 is such an odd move.
    Surely, everyone likes a 99?
    They're OK but personally I prefer a 69  :p
You know why football managers and 69's go together?
One slip of the tongue and you're in the sh1t.........

I don't know if if this has been mentioned, but if he does make the Scotland World Cup squad, FIFA would pay the club about £100,000, based on the last World Cup arrangements. This would cover most of his wages for the rest of his contract.

I'm expecting Leaburn to start games and Dykes to come on as the battering ram for the last half an hour, when we need a bit of a presence up top that alleviates pressure on our defence, or as a target man to disrupt defences and win long balls when we're chasing a goal late on.

Looking at his recent stats he doesn't start many games
Can also work the other way round.  Leaburn has really tired toward the end in some of the games recently.  Be good if he can come on with fresh legs in as much Dykes being a sub
i expect Leaburn to be the understudy - dykes hasn't come here to sit on the bench
Neither did Knibbs, Apter, Olaofe etc
you don't know that - they all would have turned up knowing they were going up a level and would lose the status of expected starters - i don't know the opposite about dykes for sure but suspect the reason he chose us over ipswich, leicester and whoever else would be that its his shirt to lose

I really hope that isn't the case. The form he's in, it should be Leaburn's shirt to lose. Even if he doesn't usurp Leaburn through injury or loss of form, Dykes is going to get plenty of minutes for us off the bench or as a rotation option when there's a lot of fixtures.

Leaburn is in possession of the shirt currently and doing very well.

Expect him to start tomorrow, but am certain we'll see Dykes from the bench at some point

No but we paid decent fees and gave them 3 or 4 year deals. They all signed with the genuine opportunity to be regular starters, none of them joined as cheap squad options like Hernandez and Rousillon
Yes but tanto for instance would have been told he was competing with at least 4 others for 2 starting spots - stay and play or move and see if you can become a starter - don't think he was given a start until some months into the season but i'll be amazed if Dykes doesn't get a start within the first 2 or 3 games.

It's not as straightforward as that though. Look beyond his wiki page and you'll see.

For example this season the stats will say he played 21 league games for Birmingham. However he only played a total of 420 minutes, which doesn't even equate to 5 full games.

90 of his minutes were in one game away at Coventry and 65 were away at Wrexham. Divide the remaining minutes into his other 19 appearances and it's an average of 13 minutes a game.

But he'll be expected to start for Scotland so coming off the bench for half hour isn't going to be good prep for that? Leaburn will be rested and Dykes will start soon - if he weakens the team after a few games, he'll be back on the bench but if not my prediction is he'll start more than Miles.

I am not unhappy with this, solid signing. Experience, also a bit of a shitbag for opposition, hopefully will pop in with the odd goal but mostly will give 100% and also will be useful for his strike partner.

    Good luck Dykes!

Which in turn would suggest the managers did not think he was upto much.

I think Dykes is a good bit of business for the remainder of this season, but I would start Leaburn all day over him and bring Dykes on about 60 mins as Leaburn gets tired
Leaburn “gets tired” after 60 mins……Jesus Christ, he’s only 22.

I'll be honest, not excited by him at all, only really heard bad stuff from Birmingham and QPR fans. That of course isn't gospel, but it doesn't read well.

The worst part is, his goal record is poor and been highlighted (1 in 6 roughly) but it's actually a better record than our current forwards. Two of our forwards are on 1 in 24 in this league and 1 in 26.

I hope it works out, but the short term contract is rather telling for me.

Reckon it depends on the oppo defenders? When they are big lads Leaburn gets bullied and falls over a lot but has more control with the ball at his feet and will be better at pressing than Dykes. Jones will play pick and mix accordingly?

For someone who takes the cesspit of X(Twitter) as gospel, your take surprises me, because most of the comments from Birmingham fans on there have been very complimentary of his time with them
