He did at at least 3 decent crosses into dangerous areas behind their defence in the the 1st half that none of our players read properly…ok couple of not so good moments near our own by line,but Kaminski put him in that bother with 2 awful passes,2nd half most of the team were all over the place & Ramsay didn’t help putting the ball to his feet rather than something he could run onto…think he is a good addition & just what we need right now…Watameire said:Clarke to me was no good, his crossing was absolutely awful. I’d actually said to my lot & those around,I’d take a point now when they went down to 9…not quite believing it,but a little mistake from a nervy & deep Charlton 11 throughout last 15mims & it so coulda gone that way…I’m sooo glad I was wrong…covered_end_junior said:That first half was dreadful, almost as bad as Southampton. From there I felt we should have gone for a second, not throwing everyone forward but 1-0 and knocking it around slowly as we were felt risky.
Thankfully we saw it out and we’ve really got away with one today. Taking Leaburn off late on when we could have done with his height to defend the corner seemed odd, unless he genuinely couldn’t continue. Bringing Godden on felt like a sentimental sub.
Absolutely behind NJ and think he’s the right man for the job, but we’re crying out for another central midfielder with real quality on the ball, on top of the other obvious areas that need strengthening.

Not going to quote all of Prague's post but that Sheffield United story about them having £70k a week to spend a CM just shows how big the gap is even within the league , on the bench they had Prem veteran experience in Tom Davies , Ben Mee and Danny Ings along with Gus Hamer who is probably one of the best CMs in the league + £3.5m worth of LWB in Harrison Burrows who they signed from Posh.
IF we stay up it's going need possibly double what we spent last summer to keep us competitive and that's a truly scary thought.11 -

I really do think that applies more to some fans.
When Jones arrived we were a broken Club going backwards at an alarming rate. Staff had been cut to the bone, scouting seemed none existent, numerous managers were tried - and failed, relegation to league 2 looked like a real possibility.
We have all come such a long way in such a short time. Yes the squad is short of some real quality, and yes, the quality below 1st team players is a lot lower than we need. Perhaps promotion came a bit too early on the journey - I wouldn’t change that as I love the Championship.
The squads of every other team cost more and get paid more. On paper we should lose every game.
But Jones has created a team. They have the belief and give everything they have to our team.
For me, the biggest threat to survival this season is us the fans. If we don’t give 100% as well, then we are not keeping up our end of the deal.
We have to give Jones and the team the love so they can continue the fight.
Time to step up and get right behind them Tuesday.11 -

The worst performance yesterday came from our terraces. Sheffield United fans continued to back their players even after they committed two of the stupidest head-loss moments I’ve seen at this level. Meanwhile, we booed ours while they kept their heads and ground out three points.
The atmosphere at the Valley was better when we were averaging 15,000 in League One. The extra 5,000 have brought little beyond prawn sandwiches, long queues for bovril and unrealistic expectations.
This season was always going to be tough. You do not get extra points for style. Grinding out points will keep us up, not putting 3 goals past 9 men.
When people say “remember where we were,” it only resonates with those who were actually there.

Yes we got three points (thank the lord) but we can’t brush under the carpet the fact that we are currently awful. Completely lost our way since the first quarter of the season. No cohesion in our play. We lack a real goal threat and our defence is a shadow of the one earlier in the season. Make no mistake if we continue with our current form we will get relegated. Yes we’ve been fairly unlucky with injuries to key players but nobody outside of us cares a hoot about that. We are struggling and Jones must find a way to get us moving forward again. The window is open but it would appear that the wallet is closed. Yes we’ve have some reinforcements but is there anyone that really thinks we’ve signed our way out of trouble ? I don’t. Relegation would be an absolute disaster. We have it within our own hands to ensure that doesn’t happen and I don’t see anything that inspires me to believe we’re taking the threat seriously enough.Rob said:I don’t understand all the Nathan Jones bashing. On a more serious note I don't have much more to add. My main frustration wasn't open play yesterday, it was uninspring but I can understand why either Jones was being cautious or the players were scared of being the one to make a mistake.
What really annoyed me (and I said so on the match thread too) was all of our throw ins going backwards and bringing all 10 outfielders back to defend set pieces against 8 outfield players. All we had to do was leave TC up high, punt a clearance as long as possible and he would have space to run into to either take a shot or get hauled down and take them to 8 men. The naivety of Hylton showed there and I think he was just as scared as the players to be seen as the one at fault for us throwing it away3 -
Sorry disagree, I thought the covered end were not at it yesterday, they are the driving force that get the other fans going, yesterday they undermined that with the booing in the first and second half, the Sheffield United fans were brilliant the best I have seen at the Valley this season.paulsturgess said:

I think this was always the case. We all know we spent big for us in the summer but we still couldn't bring in reliably fit Championship players (bar an out of favour JRC who has been a slow burn here). I actually think the signings of Clarke and Dykes probably show we're happy to pay higher wages than in the summer, even just for 6 monthsshirty5 said:Weird game of football. Just watched Wilders full post-match interview. His anger with the ref and our players is mind blowing. Thinks we should have a red card before there ones.Confirms that the club will be appealing the second red card. His opinion is no card or yellow at most was correct.7

Players need to give fans something to get behind, we shouldn’t get behind mediocre performances, just because we support the club doesn’t mean we should accept and cheer a bad performance. Given how crap we've been over numerous seasons our support has rarely turned on the players. Would be far more toxic at a lot of other clubs.
We had some pitiful crowds in L1 and it didn't help the atmosphere.2 -

Against 9 players the space over the pitch is huge ! They were trying to equalise which meant when we broke there was space everywhere but we played sideways and backwards allowing them to get back ! No idea why we would do that. Confidence must be very low if we are playing to hang on to a 1 goal lead against 9 men
Tuesday needs to be a very different approach as 3 points are vital as I can’t see any points from the next few games1 -
The only shot I remember them having in the second half was a hamer pot shot from 30 yards that was spanked high and wide. We got an early goal and were in complete control after that other than the 1 dangerous break they had. Really don't get the second half groaning, it was a sensible game plan / professional performance to secure the 3 points which is what we needed. Glad we didn't give them any opportunity for a sucker punch by going gung ho personally.

Even after we scored I (and probably most of the crowd!) were assuming Shef U would overwhelm us in the last 10 minutes and score a goal.
Didn't happen this time but we were extremely lucky. Eight times out of ten that's what would have happened!
