    African football is so boring:
I normally only watch it too help me sleep.
I have only turned it on because of the incident as my son WhatsApp me.

    Af con by name...
Watched the snooker instead but did switch over for a while when the dodgy penalty was given and then flicked between the 2 channels...great penalty.
  • Jeez... How can a game not get forfeited when a team walk off the pitch for 20mins? - What is the cut off?

Senegal beat Morocco to win the Africa Cup of Nations for a second time - but only after the final was overshadowed when they temporarily refused to play after the hosts were awarded a controversial stoppage-time penalty with the match goalless.

Just watched the official highlights and there is no mention of any dodgy calls, the walk-off etc. Like it never happened.

Some of the videos posted by journalists there show that the match director did well to hide quite a lot of violence too, including riot police

Just like the Sheff highlights of Saturday's game, no red cards just the Charlton goal

And they say the tournament isn't respected by the rest of the world!  I wonder why

    Absolute shambles of a final

    The walkoff
    the Panenka
The ballboys trying to steal the goalie's towel.

    Just so shameful all round

It's the African federation (not Fifa) in charge of Afcon. (like Uefa is in charge of the Euros)
Sadly this sort of thing is sadly common place (in Afcon).

A bunch of corrupt nations getting together to play a corrupt game organised by a corrupt federation, that in itself is part of a bigger, even more corrupt organisation!

    What could possibly go wrong?!

The issue Fifa has is that Morocco are a co-host for the World Cup in 2030 and a lot of the organisation and behaviour from the Moroccon have FA has been shmabolic at best

Brings me on the next article I am sharing:

“The Royal Moroccan Football Federation announces that it will pursue legal action with the Confederation of African Football [Caf] and Fifa to rule on the walk-off of the Senegalese national team from the field during the final against the Moroccan national team, as well as on the events surrounding this decision, following the referee’s awarding of a penalty that was deemed correct by all experts,” a statement read. “This situation had a significant impact on the normal course of the match and on the players’ performance.”

Confederation of African Football [Caf] have:

  • The towel stuff is incredible, an elite level player and CAPTAIN of the team Hakimi throwing Mendy's towel away and Moroccan ball boys literally wrestling a Senegal player to the ground. CAF should be heavily fining Morocco for that.

The towel story is definitely going to complicate any Moroccan attempts to complain about the outcome. It's clearly organised on their part, so it's clearly undeniable cheating.

I’m not even that fussed about the outcome….but you can’t have teams unilaterally deciding to walk off if they don’t like a refereeing decision.
It would set a very awkward precedent.

The sanctions from the final follow on from Algeria's football federation (Faf) being fined a total of $100,000 last week for six breaches of Caf regulations during the side's Afcon quarter-final exit at the hands of Nigeria.

Half of that sum was for "offensive and abusive gestures committed by its supporters" towards the match officials, including displaying banknotes.

Algeria goalkeeper Luca Zidane has been banned for two games for misconduct, while right-back Rafik Belghali has received a four-game ban - with two games suspended for 12 months - for "aggressive and intimidating behaviour towards the match referee" after the full-time whistle.

The further Faf fines are $10,000 for failing to comply with security measures and three separate fines of $5,000 for throwing of objects by supporters, the use of smoke devices by fans and for receiving five yellow cards during the game in Marrakech.

"The CAF Appeal Board decided that in application of Article 84 of the Regulations of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the Senegal National Team is declared to have forfeited the Final Match of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 (“the Match”), with the result of the Match being recorded as 3–0 in favour of the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF)."

"Confederation of African Football appeal board stripping Senegal of AFCON title relates to them walking off the pitch for more than 10 minutes after a penalty was awarded to Morocco in the final. Was missed & Senegal then won 1-0. Result now overturned in unprecedented ruling"

Feels fair though... You can't just walk off the pitch for that long and there not be repercussions, simply because you don't like a decision.

If you can't see this as outrageous and obvious corruption, I don't know what to say
  • If Senegal had walked off the pitch and the game had not been able to continue, then this decision would make some sense. They finished the game, so everything from the penalty onwards was essentially meaningless.

Pure corruption. Hope African football can recover.

  • In other news, Germany have just been awarded the 1966 World Cup due to a thorough VAR check.

We're in the semi's of the 1986 one though so swings and roundabouts

And Lampard's goal against Germany has just been given.
    We can still win this.
