What would you ask Nathan Jones to do?

Im hoping he stumbles on that midfield and it all clicks, as with Small and TC wide threats last seasonCafctekkers said:Set the team up to actually attack a game like we want to win it. Why are we playing every game just trying to keep the score down. Maybe try something different. A midfield like below actually feels like it could create something for us

Can you believe we're sixth in the league for clean sheets. Think that's the only reason we're not firmly in the relegation spots.
This team doesn't have the quality to start scoring en masse. If we go one or two nil down, we are never getting back into the game. That is a problem that will never be solved in January, not even with 2-3 good signings. The quality gap is too big.
NJ has to find a way for us to stop conceding and keep clean sheets again. It's the only way we'll start winning.6 -
Get the favourites out the door and be able to accept we need to use the loan market0

For an oppo set-piece - leave our fastest / smallest player in the centre circle and counter attack. We are far too passive, kicking it around our own box at 1-0 down and even against 9 or 10 men.6

Couldn’t agree more with this. Our defence is no way suited to defend with only 4 as per what happened today when we switched to fourNabySarr said:

I'd like him to set us up to hit teams on the counter rather than focusing on long balls and knock downs. Not going to happen though, especially after the Dykes signing.1

He's done this but the opposition have worked out how poor we are on the ball so are happy for us to just have it, then we commit forward and are wide open on the counterSantaClaus said:I'd like him to set us up to hit teams on the counter rather than focusing on long balls and knock downs. Sign 4 players, a left back, a left footed centre back, a physically strong and pacy central midfielder, and a strong, fast winger who can play on either flank.
Switch to 4231, use Clarke on the right hand side of the back 4, with Ramsay as his understudy, Jones with Burke as his backup, the new guys on the left with Bell/Gillesphey and Chambers as their backup.
Play the new midfielder every game with Coventry or Rankin-Costello alongside him, depending on the opposition. Play Campbell on one wing, Apter on the other. Play whatever striker fits best in the lone role (Kelman did well in it for Orient last year)
Play Carey as the 10, but be prepared to try the new winger, Fullah or Apter there if his form dips or he starts shooting from 35 yards for no reason.
Only use people like Berry in an absolute crisis, and even then try not to use him.
If you're not going to use Olaofe, Docherty, Maynard-Brewer and Zach Mitchell, sell them or ship them out on loan.

Ditch the five at the back, doing the same thing over and over again when the division has pretty much sussed our game plan and tac tics out is bonkers. Lets just get our players in their best positions and lets try and sign a creative midfielder please! I'm finding this whole "Jones doesnt do creative players" so jarring because what? I'm pretty confident our strikers would score a lot more goals if they just had a creative midfielder that picks locks. I would start playing a 4-2-3-1 with the players we have though.
I think I would have Ramsay (as bad as he was today), Jones, Clarke and Chambers would be my back four. Bell would come in over Chambers when hes fit although I'm not sure if Bell is maybe a bit past it to play as a Left Back as it would involve getting up and down quite a bit and everytime we've played him at left wing back hes totally broken down.
In midfield it would have to be Docherty and Coventry for me. I fear it may not be very quick or mobile or athletic but unfortunately this is the squad we have and there's not much else we can do about it as I can't see us bringing in any midfielders. I would start Doc although I'm not his biggest fan and think hes quite a limited footballer but he's our captain and a great leader that we need on the pitch.
I would have Carey playing as an atticking midfielder although his form has dropped off massively we don't really have anyone else to play there at the moment. I'm disappointed that Knibbs didnt get a proper run in the team before his injury because, there's potential there and we spent big money on him. I dont think Fullah should be thrown in at the deep end during a poor run of form and a scrappy relegation fight, it wont do his confidence any good whatsoever. Apter and Campbell out on the wings, their best positions, pretty self explanatory.
I think striker would be an interesting one, Kelman, Leaburn and Dykes I would consider our main three, we can't rely on Godden at 34 and coming off a big injury and Olaofe up front on his own wouldnt work in my opinion. I don't really know if Kelman would be any good up front on his own and I would be interested to hear if he ever played as a lone striker for Leyton Orient? I think Leaburn and Dykes could play up front on their own if Campbell and Carey give the striker enough support and get close for knock downs etc.
What do we have to lose? It's worth a try.5 -

Attack is the best form of defence.
Set up the team to ensure that we spend less time in our own half and more time in the opposing half.
Any defence under constant pressure will eventually concede goals.
Give us a chance from the outset, a chance to take the lead in a game, by picking a team that will give us the best opportunity of doing that.
Goals breed confidence, uplift the players and the crowd also.
Do something to lift the dark clouds currently hanging over us1 -

Where possible be consistent with selection and starting line ups. There has been no need to chop and change the front two starters. Goals get scored when players understand each other, starting with a different pairing every week undermines that understanding.
Play Kelman .. he is a legitimate goal scorer, but needs to get into a rhythm.0 -
Thats the issue with our tactics, relys on us having a clean sheet with half hour to go and the other teams energy levels having dropped.Chunes said:Can you believe we're sixth in the league for clean sheets. Think that's the only reason we're not firmly in the relegation spots.

Tell his players to close down the opposition and show some fight. Pathetic shower, muscled off the ball and looked edgy when on the ball. Owners are clueless c***s nall, rather spend money on some poxy firework display because ooh it looks nice, fuck off, it looks better when you’re spending on the team and making an effort to at least try and turn things around, this lot will 100% get relegated, they are now completely out of there depth, riding a wave at the beginning of the season, sussed out and no plan B0

I can understand the calls for a 4-2-3-1 as getting Apter and TC on either flank worked earlier in the season and doing the same with Small transformed us last season
I just don’t think we have the players to defend in a back 4 though. If we want them on the flanks then we need to use the hybrid setup that was so successful last season and early this season
Kaminski
Clarke Jones Gillesphey
Apter Costello Coventry Chambers
Carey
Leaburn TC
Hopefully can add in some new signings to that to strengthen at the back and in midfield. In possession we can be that 4-2-3-1 with Apter and TC on the flanks, but hopefully not sacrificing too much defensively1 -

Change the formation up and go back 4. 352 clearly not working. Claims he is an adaptable manager!
Stop playing Anderson.
Maybe give Apter a go. The one who can actually cross a ball and cost money in the summer!
Stop bringing all your luton mates across. Who have either lost their legs now or always injured. Danny Hylton as well complete waste of time as a strikers coach.

Our back 4 was an absolute disaster yesterday. Really don’t see how anyone watched that and still sees it as some magic change that’s going to transform our teamcharltonman2016 said:Change the formation up and go back 4. 352 clearly not working. Claims he is an adaptable manager!

Yesterday when we went to a 4 at the back we also only had a 2 man midfield which gives little protection. Don't think anyone is suggesting we try that. It might not work but it's not like wing backs have been a great success recently. Can't see him changing it anyway so you don't need to worry.NabySarr said:

Hylton is set piece coach, and our set piece record is up there with the best in the leagueMillwall also had a 2 man midfield. So it wasn’t like we were outnumbered there. If we had the players for a back 4 then I’d be on board. But it’s blatant that we don’t have the centre backs for it. Lloyd Jones is the only one reliable enough and even then he’s much better in a back 31
