Wouldn’t an average championship midfielder be an upgrade though?YannTheMann said:

NJ seems to be under the impression that just working hard will win games.Chunes said:
We're trying to play a physical brand of football but most teams at this level have more physicality than us.NabySarr said:
Think we really need a midfield destroyer type in there next to him, rather than a playmaker that people seem to be asking for. Our whole midfield is too soft for this level. Shame he’s gone to Pompey as Ebou Adams would have been perfect for usChunes said:
I think he was 3rd in the league for Tackles per 90 Minutes last season... This season in the Championship, he's 129th.Todds_right_hook said:Coventry isn’t lightweight. He is a work horse who does so much ugly work for the team and breaks up play. He can actually pick a pass, he played a couple of great forward balls on Tuesday against Derby. I think the issue is that he is instructed to play sideways
He's also in the bottom 30% of midfielders for losing his duels.
His interception rate is decent, on the other hand.
Think he's struggling to make deal with the extra physicality of players at this level. Not quite winning the ball back for us like be was in L1.2 -

So two more permanent signings more than us then?MarcusH26 said:Oxford have mainly brought in loans? Donley, Peart-Harris and Konak are all on loan. It's only McDonnell and Jeon the south Korean winger that are permanents.0 -
Portsmouth and Oxford have so far had better transfer windows than we have. That has to change in the next 8 days15
-
Sorry but if the extent of your transfer window is to loan a non scoring target man and a young player with no games for months then you haven’t had a transfer window. A massive week for us is now needed11

by that logic I must have become a tree hugging environmentalist because I haven't bought any petrol for a fortnight.Berkshire1970 said:

Yes, he’s better than all but maybe one of our midfieldYannTheMann said:

Yeah he looked it yesterday, making a whopping 5 more passes than Karoy Anderson in 30 more minutes on the pitch with a lower completion rate, so actually only delivered 1 more pass than KaroyAberystwythAddick said:

You could also say that he’s scored more goals than Coventry, Doc & Anderson put together in significantly less minutes.YannTheMann said:

Great, get him up to speed in time for Leicester...🤔CB1 said:James Bree starts for Southampton against Pompey today.4 -
Significantly less minutes than Karoy? Comparing him to Cov who we know is there to hold? And Doc who is seemingly off to the level below? JRC has had a 2 good games in 13 appearances, I would love it if he could be more consistent (possibly Nath is not helping him by not letting him play into any kind of form) but we've also seen him put in a number of stinking displays. Don't think anyone was clamouring for him before the Portsmouth & Coventry gamesCafcSteve said:

we need an injection of pace in the side. We are such a slow, one paced XL.
We can't hurt teams as we don't pass the ball but even worse we only have TC who can beat a man an absoloutely nobody that can go past a player and worry defenders.
JRS would be perfect in the 10 role or somebody similar and then ideally a WB who can do that same. The a mobile ball winner in CM and a CB for cover please.4 -
Given that Dykes and Clark were established Championship players (and played in the Prem too), they wont have been playing for Peanuts, so even if they are only on £10K a week that's still half a million quid a year each plus the employment overheads (maybe agent costs too).Berkshire1970 said:Rothko said:

The next 8 days of the window are crucial, strongly believe we need to revert to the hybrid 352/4231 that was working so well last season and start of this season. Kelman/Godden need to be in the striker position alongside TC then having leaburn and dykes off the bench we desperately miss the press from the front. Bell back at full fitness is a must and could be the difference between relegation and staying up. This week a centre midfielder who can breach the gap between Coventry and Carey has to be signed owners need to pull the chequebook out. Chambers and Clarke with more game time will be good additions to the team us staying up is crucial for the future of the club.3

I’d be surprised if we’re not already paying several players £10-15k a week, and some possibly more. Players like Kaminski and Burke are unlikely to have taken big pay cuts.CombeMartin said:

If you give a player a 3 or 4 year deal in the Championship that likely comes with a decent wage.
I imagine last seasons players would have had promotion increases too.

Mate you need to check how many days there are in January. I don't think anyone denies that we need fresh faces, but as Mr Rodwell pointed out, people will have to leave as well. Everyone can give you a list of who should go and who should stay and in a twenty nine strong squad, I would only keep 20, and that's because we are where we are and quantity is no substitute for quality. I would suggest we all wait until the end of this month, no incomings, let em have it !Berkshire1970 said:Rothko said:

Looking so far at the signings of Hernandez, Rollison, Clarke and Chambers who have played less games than anyone I'm not overly convinced the Board will give Nathan the money to bring in fit quality players.... in a week!
We need to create so much through the middle otherwise we're toast.
However we have to look forward to Leicester as a chance to see redemption all round.... But a worrying stat shows they've not kept a clean sheet in 23 games!3 -
Thought we had got past panic buying in the January transfer lottery, how fucking wrong was i?1

Kaminski is 20k a week I heard. I’m not taking that as gospel as it seem a lot, particularly for a GK and that would surely make him the highest earner.Scoham said:

I imagine last seasons players would have had promotion increases too.Burke 12k I think. At the end of the window in the summer I was pleased with our business. We took a shot on the likes of Knibbs, Apter, Kelman etc, we couldn’t compete for players any better than that. Some of them look like they haven’t paid off in the likes of Tanto. I didn’t mind the ex Luton brigade, but I don’t like Kaminski. Yes, he’s made some good stops, but I don’t think he inspires the defence with confidence. I don’t like Burke on the basis I’m fed up of getting these players that are good but constantly injured. NJ had the pleasure of Aneke. He knows how pointless it is to keep these players on the books, especially if you’re managing to the supposed budget we have, and then allocating an injury ravaged player 12k a week of that.
we need big reinforcements in the next week. Not sure that’s what we’re going to get though0 -

I have no idea re players wages however if someone agreed £12k per week for a player that everyone knew would likely miss50% of our games needs a word I don’t believe we couldn’t get a fit decent player for £12k pwcabbles said:

Quote from Cawley’s latest (excellent piece). Note he’s saying of our squad they’re the most likely to be loaned, not that a loan is necessarily likely (if that makes sense)
The likes of Apter and Olaofe, bought for fees in the summer, look most likely to make temporary exits
1 -
That’s not a good look for the recruitment team if you 2 main signings in the summer can’t make the starting lineup and are potentially being loaned out add Ahadme into the mix and if I was an owner I would be asking questionsfenaddick said:Quote from Cawley’s latest (excellent piece). Loaning out Apter would be a big mistake in my opinion.18

I have no idea what’s going on with Apter, one of the better players in the squad and should be getting much more game time.fenaddick said:Quote from Cawley’s latest (excellent piece). I just dont think Jones rates him as a jones type player. I think his view may have changed after the southampton game0
-
Unless we sign a new attacking right wing back then I’d be shocked if Apter is allowed to go out on loan. Can’t see that happening
With Tanto it feels like there might be more to it, we’ve probably got too many strikers, particularly now TC will move forward again rather than be needed at wing back3 -
Think the same with Tanto. Bundles of energy, pace and strong. I know hes had a couple of chances he should have scored but his energy up top is un-matched.LargeAddick said:Loaning out Apter would be a big mistake in my opinion.
Also, if Jones had it in him to change the system, he could be used a winger.
Apter aswell would suit a changed system. Fullah, TC, Tanto and Apter are decent options on the wings.2
