The treatment of Apter is appalling and difficult to justify given how awful we've been. A truly bizarre situation and one which may bite us on the arse.

How do we know that isn't deserved though, because he's unable to follow simple instructions in training - Footballers always get so much better when not playing.

I think I must be missing something with Tanto and Apter.

I haven’t seen much from Tanto that impressed me other than his work rate against tired defences; his goal v Sheffield United was luckily scuffed through the keeper and he’s missed a few other decent chances. A good assist v Brum (lucky piece of skill to beat a man in my eyes) but otherwise his link up play is lacking. I think a loan suits both sides.

Apter had a few promising games when attacking, but, as a commenter in another thread laid out, he was a liability defensively and looked way off it physically throughout. There’s hope with Apter but I don’t think he’s the messiah some are making him out to be. A loan gives him a chance to play regularly and we get our player back in the summer for a fresh start.

Every team gets transfers wrong. If their wages can be moved out to finance a signing that can improve us I’m all for it. I’d rather that than doubling down on bad investments. But we have to get the incoming player(s) right otherwise it’s pointless.

Maybe nothing in this one, but Charlie Goode has recently started following Charlton on X. He's a right-footed CB, currently having a good season at Stevenage.

Interesting player , big physical 6ft 5 CB - had an injury ravaged spell at Brentford.

Sounds perfect for us and our ‘minted’ budget.

Had a quick look at the (awful) Stevenage forum, no mention of a move here but they do seem to like him

Seems to be fit now but his injury record has a lot of red flags.

What’s the comparison between Stevenage & the Championship?

Obviously there's a quality difference between L1 and the Championship but there's an interesting stylistic comparison between the two

    Average possession

    Stevenage - 44.3%
    Charlton - 43.4%

    Clearances per match

    Stevenage - 34.9
    Charlton - 33.4

    Accurate long balls per match

    Stevenage - 20.8
    Charlton - 22.3

Basically, both teams are anti having the ball and like to pump it long. He wouldn't need long to adapt to NJ style football

Think he'd be a great partner for Lloyd in a back 4. Could probably play RCB though which is a good option when Burke and Ramsay are out of form and injury prone

I cannot believe the owners have just withdrawn investment in a critical window as this. Oxford have set the tone by giving it a go.

Personally, I have no issue with Tanto and Apter going out on loan. They both need minutes and its only fair.

What concerns me is Jones record of signing attacking players so far is pretty poor. Godden has worked thats it. Gas man a flop and the jury is still out on Tanto and Kelman who between them cost about 5.5m. (too early to judge Dykes)

Tanto and Apter will be replaced by cloggers with a shaky at best injury record.
