West brom aren't showing much fight. 2 wins in 11 and lost their last home game 5-0.

That said i don't think they'll go down. Huge game for them away at Portsmouth this weekend though.

I'd prefer a West brom win as i think they're far more likely to get out of their current mess than Portsmouth are. A draw wouldn't be the worst result though, would mean only 2 points from 2 home games for Pompey and after that they've got Ipswich.

February is tough for Portsmouth too, in the space of a week they go away to us, then away to Millwall, then away to Wrexham.

We can only dream of signing a player who can hit the ground running & score goals....1 being the winner. 

One consequence of bobbing around between the Championship and the PL is that you can chuck a bit more resource at things like the recruitment department for example. Unfortunately Phil Chapple can’t cover the whole world but it’s certainly an area we need to improve on.

Bit Oxford and Pompey have also recruited players who have come in and immediately had an impact on their results.

Pompey are playing better than WBA at the moment. WBA have the stench of decline about them.

Either way, a draw is always better. Relegation rivals getting 2 points between them instead of 3.

They do, but also showed the desire to get a late equaliser against Derby away! We failed to do that against Derby, at home in the same week!

A West Brom win would mean we gain 3 points on Portsmouth, but lose 3 to West Brom, so no net benefit to us.

So we need a draw for a 2 point gain on Portsmouth in the same fixture. 

To make it doubly interesting, consider our fixture at Leicester on the same day. West Brom lost there a few weeks back, and Portsmouth got a draw in October. We win to get a 2 point gain on Portsmouth. Whatever the result it can be added to the outcome from their fixture to form a mini-league of the 4 teams.

This approach can then be extended each week when fixtures of interest occur, and we should be able to track our place in various mini leagues.

I posted during the game the other night that it was a definite red if there was VAR. Glad he’s been done retrospectively.

Totally meaningless comparing what we did against a certain team with what our relegation rivals did/ might do.

We have played a totally different way during the season due to injuries, form & team set up. What result we might have got at home against Watford on the first game of the season bears no comparison what Pompey might get at home against Watford in December or this coming April. 

You can only go on current form and player availability. As they say in the investment world......past performance is no guide to the future. 

Maybe some merit in that view but comparing results regardless of form, formations, injuries, etc, is exactly how a league table works.

Derby are going to leapfrog Bristol city and be top 6 after tonight.
County are so good away from home and are playing some sweet passing football tonight in transition.

Crikey, I look at Derby as being a bit pony tbh and beatable even though we couldn't. How have they managed this.

They're half decent aren't they and I am absolutely wrong about them.

Four wins in their last six and into the top six.
