Who cares what number he wears. I care about if he is good and will he help us to stay up.16

Yeah, makes sense. I am all for improvements in any area of the pitch. It just doesn't feel like that is the position of need, especially on a limited budget; it seems like a lot of money to improve depth in one of our deeper areas. But perhaps they see huge potential with him and £2m doesn't get you a decent left sided CB at the moment.fenaddick said:
I think the most logical explanation is Bree isn't coming back so NJ is aware that Ramsay might be needed at RWB. He then rates Sichenje higher than Gough/Mitchell as the cover for Burke/Ramsayelbiglad said:

It's a position where we are well stocked: Burke, Ramsay, Clarke, Coady, Jones with Gough and Mitchell as emergency cover. I know that every area can be improved but if we don't have much to spend, I don't see why this is the position we are targeting. Additionally, with the situation we are in, I don't know if this is the type of player (unproven, seemingly a bit erratic) we should be signing for the run in.
Most likely explanations: they just really, really rate him; Lloyd injury could be bad; there are some outgoings to come in that position; we are more willing to spend than we are letting on.2 -
Ah right so, not taking action would have been bad, signing people is bad, with hindsight it's bad. Maybe we could time travel and stop us from signing the players who generally everyone was pretty happy with at the time with this unparalleled foresightAberystwythAddick said:

Always a chance Ramsay departs of course.2

This is what I’m feeling. If he won’t sign a new contract now might be best to cash in on him. I do think he could play at a higher level, but his form has turned pretty bad recently.LargeAddick said:Always a chance Ramsay departs of course.0 -
No, us having to to take action is indicative of our poor recruitment which is back up with two of our major signings being loaned back to league one.YannTheMann said:

With respect to Ramsay, and him being one of my favourite players, I think it's in his best interest to stay put.Diebythesword said:

Hasn't had the best season, and will get the time and patience to grow here.
Hoping we see more of him at right back as that's where he is best, and has a real platform here. The wrong move could halt his career.10 -
Agree he should stay put but personally feel he’s best at RCB personally. It’s been months since we’ve had a bell, Jones Ramsay back 3 and that’s when we’ve looked our bestBraziliance said:

Most likely explanations: they just really, really rate him; Lloyd injury could be bad; there are some outgoings to come in that position; we are more willing to spend than we are letting on.I do wonder if we've given up on Burke a bit. The hope was he would come in and stay fit, or at least be managed carefully in game with Ramsay and Jones already excellent choices ahead of him. Ramsay has had his traditional injuries though and Burke has come in but not been able to avoid getting injured. On top of that, while he started well he's also started to look a bit ropey as a player. We were told we were getting a Premier League level defender who was slumming it with us because of his fitness record but I don't think he's looked much better than Gillesphey in recent appearances and he's slower than I thought possible. He was all over the shop for Derby's goal, he was nowhere near winning the header for Millwall's second and gifted them the third with a clumsy challenge for the penalty. If you're going to be constantly injured you have to at least be good when you play and currently he is not.In addition to that though, Lloyd Jones is 30 and I don't think will sign another contract with us. That means he's probably gone at the end of next season and Coady is only here until the end of this season. Ramsay is another one who I think we'll need to sell rather than let his contract run out. Sichenje is only 22 and hasn't played English football before, I think he'll be viewed as one for the future who is affordable at the moment but wouldn't be if we waited or would be picked up by someone else. Sometimes you have to buy for the future now.10 -

I too agree he's better at RWB but if the Kenyan lad signs that'll be him, Ramsay, Burke and Clarke to cover that position. Something has got to give, Ramsay seems the logical out. Especially as his form has been pretty poor recently.0

The NTT20 write up on the Conor Coady Signing... fair to say they aren't confident on this one (much like me) If you subscribe they give you a daily email with a write up on every transfer, it's great content.
Conor Coady (CB) - [Wrexham - Charlton] - Loan
There is no question that Coady is a good man and a leader, which Nathan Jones will see as a positive. But Charlton need to find a way to stop conceding goals, so it’s a bold move to sign a centre-back whose best attribute has always been his passing range, and who has looked suspect defensively for a few seasons now.
Coady really has to play in the middle of a back three to compensate for his lack of pace and defensive solidity, but that’s where Lloyd Jones plays, and he’s one of the few Charlton players who absolutely should not be replaced. Despite reportedly costing Wrexham a fortune in wages, and a transfer fee to boot, Coady was bombed out by Phil Parkinson in September and hasn’t played a minute since October, after looking well short of what was needed. We predicted as much when Wrexham signed him last summer.
He’s still only 32, yet it’s hard to have faith that Coady is ready to play at a level that will oust Charlton’s best defender and satisfy his demanding manager. It may soon become apparent that he won’t be keeping up with the Joneses.

An on song Ramsay is invaluable to this team. Personally I prefer him as the RWB as it gives him a bit more freedom to get forward. However, him and Bell either side of Jones saw us playing - in my eyes - our best football this year. Their recovery pace allowed Jones to be aggressive against opposition strikers and their comfort on the ball gave us more than one dimension when attacking. Watching them both escape seemingly impossible situations in the corners of the pitch and carry the ball forward is a joy.
I would hate to see him go.

I agree I prefer him at RCB - when he was there with Small at RWB, I never felt at riskDiebythesword said:

Should Collins sign, is there a lore reason why he couldn't play as LCB?1

Regardless of what happens in the last days of the window, as well as the rest of the season - I think I speak of all of us when I say I'm relieved we've kept the coveted number 9 shirt safe for Gassan's return in the Summer.20

Perhaps the shop should stock a 6 month Gasman Advent Calendar counting down to his return, and a two year one until his next goal.ElliotCAFC said:Regardless of what happens in the last days of the window, as well as the rest of the season - I think I speak of all of us when I say I'm relieved we've kept the coveted number 9 shirt safe for Gassan's return in the Summer.2 -

Wouldn't be surprised if he has already signed AND has been given the no 4 shirt, but the club are finalising the sale of Alex Mitchell before announcing it.Callumcafc said:https://www.the-star.co.ke/sports/football/2026-01-30-kenyan-footballers-break-into-europe-sichenje-ochieng-wanjala-lead-the-wayThis article supposedly even has a quote from the player!

This has got to be one of the more interesting transfers we've had for a few years. Got to be one we've found through analytics that fits the profile we want at RCB and think the value is there that we can develop him.Callumcafc said:https://www.the-star.co.ke/sports/football/2026-01-30-kenyan-footballers-break-into-europe-sichenje-ochieng-wanjala-lead-the-wayThis article supposedly even has a quote from the player!

Either we've done a very good job of keeping a lid on it from our end (no ITK's, cawley, journos etc.) or a really well committed to joke.1 -
Only Nixon has properly mentioned it in terms of Journos over here , really unusual.CL_Phantom said:Callumcafc said:https://www.the-star.co.ke/sports/football/2026-01-30-kenyan-footballers-break-into-europe-sichenje-ochieng-wanjala-lead-the-wayThis article supposedly even has a quote from the player!

Cawley's not rubbished it though, unlike with some of the other "random" transfer stories.CL_Phantom said:Callumcafc said:https://www.the-star.co.ke/sports/football/2026-01-30-kenyan-footballers-break-into-europe-sichenje-ochieng-wanjala-lead-the-wayThis article supposedly even has a quote from the player!
