Dykes is much more mobile than his size and demeanor suggest, which means I think he can and has worked well with Miles (who is also mobile, but being even bigger, is a little less so). And Godden looked sharp and we know he’s hungry to make up for lost time. I’m sure we’re gonna score more than we did in the first half of the season now.18

Mike Dean described Harry Clarke's disallowed goal against Leicester as an awful mistake by the referee….. another one against us lucky it did not affect the outcome but the game should have been over by ht

Looked pretty solid at the back for most of the game. Inevitably Mavididi and Monga caused a few problems, impossible to keep them quiet for an entire game.Chambers looks quality, especially going forwards. I’ve been really impressed with Harry Clarke so far too. A definite upgrade on the last few performances from James Bree. Coady did a job in midfield and Doc does make a difference in there.
I have no problem with Dykes and Leaburn up top if crosses are coming from the wings, rather than long balls pumped up the middle. Great to have Godden back with his movement and ability to sniff out chances for himself. Fingers crossed for Leaburn. Hopefully he’s OK.Should have been 3-0, nothing wrong with our goal, can’t argue with their penalty, awful miss.Time to find some consistency and push on. Do think we need a creative midfielder in the middle.10 -
Never get too high or too low. Was nervous even at 2 nil in the 90th minute. Thought we were OK, the ten men scenario makes it hard to gauge if it worked as a formation. However thought both wingbacks were excellent, as was Ramsay, who is entitled to have the odd bad game and showed his class today. Dykes goal was a proper centre forward goal and he does seem to be a winner attitude wise. Back it up v QPR and then I'll celebrate!11

Coady at CDM may just be the "Small at RWB" moment for this season. Will need to see it against 11 men whether it holds up but essentially having him there to drop into the back line allows both wing backs to play with a little more freedom and to get up the pitch more. Width on both sides and crossing ability makes us a completely different prospect going forwards and gives our strikers more space and more to work with.
Coady there to organise and dictate play in midfield and defence whilst also being all over the ref will be key at the business end of the season if we are in a relegation battle. He has a decent range of passing too.21 -
Looks like some of our signings are not as bad as some were saying.
Great result and a real pick me up following last week's rubbish.
Safe travels home to all that went.
Onwards and upwards.
Keep the faith.11 -
Can we finally get HMS Addicks out of dry docks please??8

Great win. Some positives today. A vast improvement today. Win is all that really matters. Hope Miles is Ok.0

Miles has always looked a better player when he’s had someone to play off. It’s a credit to him that he’s improved his game as the target man himself but I’m excited to see more of him feeding off Dykes and hope his shoulder injury isn’t too serious.LoOkOuT said:Dykes is much more mobile than his size and demeanor suggest, which means I think he can and has worked well with Miles (who is also mobile, but being even bigger, is a little less so). Great result. We started well and very quickly you could see that Jones had got it right with the big front two causing Leicester nothing but grief. Coady in the holding role threw them I think because they were pressing so stupidly high with their front three and we weren't really that bothered about playing out to the deep midfielder. We love a lump up the pitch and we'll take it even if it's not on. Doesn't speak well to Andy King's preparation. Clarke spotted the space Mavididi was leaving with his high press and exploited it. There was less room for Chambers to work in and it felt like Leicester knew from previous games to turn up the heat on our left side but were unfortunately met with Amari'i Bell and an actual LWB and didn't get anywhere. The red couldn't have been more clear and I'm really pleased with how we punished them in the first half given there was no way they were coming out in the second half as bad as the first. As usual the problems came from how easy it is to play through our midfield and we still need to fix that. We're actually an enjoyable team to watch when we're not suffering there and a new player needs to come in. Fatawu got more into the game second half but we were always going to have to weather a storm up to 60 minutes and did it well. Bell got done for the penalty which was annoying but we got let off there, though I never really felt like they'd score it oddly. Confidence on the pitch and in the stands was just too low. After their initial flurry we settled, started passing the ball round, using the wide outlets and slowly strangled the life out of the game. Thoroughly professional and limiting a team to one shot on target when they're at home is a superb defensive effort. As we've always known the balance makes such a difference. Pace either side of Lloyd Jones and proper wingbacks playing as wingbacks. Felt much more like earlier in the season.A word on the transfer dealings as well - there's been some doom and gloom before players have even kicked a ball but the key thing isn't to sign the 'best' players around, it's to sign the ones best suited to what your team is trying to do. Dykes is perfect for the way we play and with a goal and an assist to his name he's already contributed as much in 4 games as Tanto did this season. Clarke and Chambers each have as many assists as Rob Apter and it didn't take either of them 10 games to do it. Just because they weren't working out for someone else doesn't mean they aren't a good fit for us. Harry Clarke is a great signing and the difference he's made has been excellent. I feel like whenever we really need it we can rely on a result against Leicester and today was no different. Great result, great day. On to QPR now28

Godden getting a comfortable 45 mins under his belt was a big bonus. Leaburn before him was absolutely immense.24

Expect Charlton Chronicles will cancel their show tomorrow night. They won’t be able to spend the hour with their usual negativity and moan fest.11

Absolutely massive win.
If Leicester get the points deduction they are due, they’re in huge trouble. Despite having some fantastic players, they are a really poor team.13 -
A bit of humble pie from me - felt very pessimistic before the game.
However, a pretty solid performance all round and Leicester well defeated in the end. The scoreline shows 2 0 but we all know it was 3 0.6 -
Humble pie aplenty being eaten here.
Before the game, I was far from impressed with the starting line up.
Last week at Millwall, I thought Chambers looked very weak. Today he showed he is a good player. Let's hope he stays fit (and Liverpool let us play him soon for 90 mins!)
The Coady signing left me very unimpressed. But he also showed enough today to make me think that he might bring some strong leadership to this team and play a key role for the rest of this season.
But between the humble pie slices, let's also just say everything went our way today for a change. We were appalling for the first 15 mins of the second half. Why sit back and just invite pressure on? If the penalty had gone in, I have a horrible feeling that we might have been looking at a very different result.3 -
Let’s be honest… It had been coming.0

Carey has great technique in front of goal, just like his finish against Sheffield Utd.cantersaddick said:
Forgot to mention Careys excellently taken goal, that was class. Also that we are back to winning second balls every time like we did at the start of the season.cantersaddick said:3 points on the road. Lots and lots of positives to take from it. I’ve maintained that with some reinforcements we can go on a bit of a run and make things comfortable before we get too close to the end of the season. Signs all there today that we can do it.
Leaburn excellent, hold up play and seems to be regaining some pace. Having Dykes there to take some attention off him means he can drift a little more and drag defenders out of position. He gets better every game, hope his shoulder is okay.
Dykes well taken goal. Coady doing the Pratley role of being all over the ref from minute 1 and organised our entire midfield and defence. Doc looking back to his early season form. Such better balance with both wing backs being natural in that position, both putting in excellent crosses and getting an assist each. Clarke in particular loves an early cross. Fevrier looked big strong and quick off the bench. Bell back and looking class again. Some slick moves in the attacking third. Godden showing just how little he needs to get a shot off – such a difference to our other strikers.
Couple of caveats of all that, them down to 10 men gave us more space and meant Coady and Doc were given more space in the centre of the park, against 11 they might have been exposed for lack of pace. The missed pen could have changed the whole picture.

Good win today. Disappointing to see perfectly good goal disallowed.
Thought their penalty was a bit soft and pleased to see it missed.
Clarke and Chambers did well - both looked solid. Hopefully will continue improving. Godden looked sharp up top.
Need to follow this up with some decent home performances....7 -

Before I get on too the positives ?
WTF was Conor Coady doing kicking the ball out when the Leicester player was injured when they were already down to 10 men; this is professional football and the lad didn't have a broken leg or a head injury.
Also why did Coady run up to the ref with the negative hand sign to the ref as if he had made a mistake with the Red card ? Just saw it again and it's not a good look.
I want everyone committed 100% to cafc not the club they played for last Season.
Definitely Red card despite a long way from goal which changed the dynamics in the game so we don't know if 11 v 11 with that starting line up would've won the game but a draw we would've all taken at KO.
3 excellent 1st half 'goals' from CAFC with a smashing legit goal from the corner by Carey, followed by an excellent finish by Ginger genius from a decent cross by Clarke.
Good work by Docherty and a skilled accurate cross by the impressive Chambers for a sharp finish from Dykes.
Great 3 points to stop the slide but we have so much work still to do and we don't want Miles to have another injury.

Oxford and Pompeys February. If we get a couple of home wins and beat Pompey then 🤞9 -
If they open went in they would have got a second.
The pressure was huge at that stage.
But we handled it and then they ran out of steam.
A huge 3 points.
We can breathe a lot easier tonight.
I'm going to enjoy the week.2 -
Superb win. Well done Jones, the players and the support. Great reaction to last week. Onwards and upwards.7

Do you honestly think Coady was trying to tell the ref not to send him off? Like do you genuinely believe that’s what he was doing?soapboxsam said:Before I get on too the positives ?

Not quite, we had a perfectly good goal disallowed (and Dykes yellow was a joke).Fortune 82nd Minute said:Humble pie aplenty being eaten here.

Follow this up with 6/7 points in the next 3
home games, and I’ll be a lot happier.6 -
Wings backs playing wing back. We’ve seen the future
great result.Think we would have done them with a full side anyway.5 -
Think you've misread this badly. Hes clearly telling the ref not to listen to their arguments and that its a definite red.soapboxsam said:Before I get on too the positives ?
