I used to love Seinfeld. Saw him live having spent loads of money on O2 tickets. Will never watch a gig there again, probably won't ever watch him do anything again either. What a rip off. He was not remotely funny. Can't figure out what I saw in him all that time.

Did see Nish Kumar in Guildford last year and even though I don't watch him at all, I thought he was brilliant. He was on great form.

I went to a small pub comedy gig in New Malden last night. Lou Sanders and Milton Jones were trailing their stuff for the Mock the Week recording today.

    Milton was fantastic.

However, Lou Sanders, who went first after the MC (who was very good too), bombed. Then at the end, she turned on me  in the second row, and told me off for not laughing at her material and asked if I had not enjoyed it.

I have never before seen anything quite like it. I was flabbergasted.

I have this debatewith my wife frequently but I hardly find any woman comedians to be funny.  I love listening and watching comedy but my wife hates it.  She laughs at Miranda Hart and I just detest her.  Don't get me started on Rosie Jones.  Or Jo Brand.  Or Harriett Kemsley.

A few years ago I saw Phil Wang at the Comedy Store and loved it.  He was followed by Roisin Connaty and she just doesn't make me laugh in the slightest.

I like Katherine Ryan - probably because she is controversial like her mate Jimmy Carr.  Sarah Millican often gets a smirk from me but i'm struggling ater that.

I think I may be becoming a grumpy old man however, there are plenty of comedians that make me laugh so I guess I haven't had a full sense of humour bypass.  James Acaster, Trevor Noah, Russel Kane (sometimes), Jimmy Carr, Anthony Jeselnik all tend to make me chuckle and I miss Lee Evans

Comedy is such a strange thing when you think about it.  Some things people find eye-wateringly bad have the opposite effect on others and I guess that's why it's so varied nowadays.  The only constant is the lack of people prepared to be controversial still for fear of cancellation.

Try Nikki Glaser. I often struggle with female comics as well - though I do find Jo Brand funny quite often, and Sarah Millican has her moments. Katherine Ryan I've never once laughed at. Nikki Glaser is genuinely funny though - absolutely filthy, and dark like Jeselnik (my favourite comedian ever) is.
  • Nish Patel - awful comedian, only plays to the racism/facism nonsense and falls apart when in a room with proper comedians who know their craft.

I tried to watch the newest Kill Tony special on Netflix and had to turn it off within 30 minutes, everyone from Tony Hinchcliffe to the 'legend' guests and the emerging talent were absolutely shocking, never seen anything where so many people claiming to be comedians were so desperately unfunny. I've recently come across Red Richardson though, who is utterly hilarious, would love to see him live.

Rosie Jones. I know it's not PC but through no fault of her own she's unable to deliver jokes with any sort of timing and, for me, that removes any enjoyment from watching her. I've already seen where she's going, got there ahead of her and moved on by the time she's arrived at the punchline.

I'm similar to this with regards to female comedians, have seen Nicola Conti though and she was excellent

It was awful. How is it so popular?

I'm nit a fan of Lou Sanders, I've got quite a dark sense of humour so her stuff should appeal but you've got to be funny with it and I don't find her very funny.

Proper weird to effectively reckless and audience member though - I wouldn't be looking to highlight someone not finding it funny!!

We saw Milton Jones a while back - normally find hin really funny and he was the reason we booked the gig (was one of those where 4 comedians so half hour each), then he was rubbish!

Luckily a couple of the others were great -  they had Angelos Epithemiou as a late stand in and he had me in stitches.

Tiktok generation comedian. Looks funny for two clips. Then you see him and realise it's 75% of his act, novelty wears off five minutes in, and the rest of it isn't funny.

Kill Tony is completely dependent on the guests, if you've got great comedians then it can be hilarious but usually it's awful. The Netflix shows are famously the worst of all.

Couldn't agree more all he does is take the piss out the crowd, absolute mind numbing.

I am literally obssessed with him. I agree the fuck out of it.
Seen him loads of times and he never fails to either crack me up or literally impress me with how clever the character Stewart Lee is. The end of Content provider - genius. The UKIPS should be taught in schools. Ricky Gervais saying what cant be said - painful and utterly addictive.
  • I remember seeing Dom Joly do a stand-up show on TV where he was deliberately not funny. From memory, people laughed a bit at first, then grew edgy, before some walked off. Brilliant.

I really don't understand how anyone finds Ricky Gervais remotely funny, he's a writer pretending to be a stand-up comic. Every single special of his is the same, the same boring premises that, despite being written with the sole purpose of being edgy, aren't edgy to anyone that isn't the same age as him.

He then always hides behind "You don't like it because you're offended". It's all so odd.

The 13 pages of this thread demonstrate that what makes people laugh is a very individual thing.

Stating "I don't understand how people find xxxx funny" is to wholly misunderstand human nature.

Stating who you do like and don't like is absolutely appropriate.

Questioning why others don't think the same as you is pointless.

I suppose comedy is a personal thing, I find Gervais funny but, as I’m 59, that’s the reason. I’m not easily offended.

Went many years ago to a corporate awards night and the MC was Bob Monkhouse. Was hilarious without out being crude. And lighting quick.

Most of these are very subjective and all comes down to opinions.

However, I’ve never met or heard someone say they think Rosie Jones is funny.

Anyone that will is either on her payroll or still waiting for her to spit out her punchline.
