Comedians that are just not funny
Comments

Like Bill Burr (until he took the Saudi money), Mark Normand, Stewart Lee (KD Lang), my fave is Norm McDonald.
Used to love Frank Skinner but has become part of the Hampstead luvvys.
Micky Flanagan was funny until he got rich and didn't have new material.
Used to love a night at Up The Creek...God bless Malcolm!

Gervais doesn't offend me. He's just not funny and hasn't been since Extras. His routine is the same old same old. Really Ricky, I didn't know you were atheist, you never seem to mention it! If you've been 'cancelled' why do they let you keep producing shite Netflix stand up shows?3

As evidenced by the spelling of his name.SporadicAddick said:PrincessFiona said:Stuart Lee - nothing funny the whole evening
You're just not clever enough to get it.

I could be wrong as i've never seen his show but i'd always assumed the clips that you generally see 100 times on social media were just of his 'crowd work' at the start of a night and not his actual stand up show.Steven81 said:
Couldn't agree more all he does is take the piss out the crowd, absolute mind numbing.North Lower Neil said:Paul Smith, the ginger scouse bloke who theres a lot of clips online in the comedy club up there.
"What do you do mate? Bus driver? Haha, drive busses is it? Drive it here tonight did yeh? Hahahaha, buses this lad, what are yeh, 6? That's f***ing sh*t that is, lad.
And you with him? This yer girlfriend? What do you do, love? What's that? Work in accounts? Yeh boring cow, haha! Write yer little numbers down do yer? The numbers of his buses hahahahahahaha! That's f***ing sh*t that is, love."
And you, row behind, what do you do?"
Surely that's not all he does?0 -
Yeah this exactly where I sit with Gervais, his 'offensive' material is more akin to a 16 year old saying something for shock value & attention as opposed to well crafted comedy. Been awful since he stopped working with MerchantAddick_and_Chips said:Gervais doesn't offend me. He's just not funny and hasn't been since Extras. His routine is the same old same old. This thread for some reason reminded me of Tom Ward (one of my friends is apparently friends with his mum) who I saw in a pub gig in Henley many years ago. He was funny then, and this clip made me laugh as well. (off topic, I know)

Are you sure it was Max Boyce and not Stan Boardman?thickandthin63 said:A special mention to Max Boyce, who many years ago at a game at Anfield, did the halftime entertainment and spent 10 minutes taking the piss out of Charlton, even the home supporters were pissed of with him.I did write to Liverpool FC,this was the first game after Bob Paisley Died, and we Charlton supporters showed our utmost respect and should not have put up with this.To their credit I received a lovely letter back, sharing my annoyance and was assured that Mr.Boyce was put in his place.
Hated him ever since.0 -
I find Lou Sanders pretty funny
Rachel Fairburn is decent and Louise Omielan is good as well
Kerri Godliman has folded me up laughing
There are some fantastic female comedians on the circuit. A lot of the ones mentioned in the thread above are winning victims of diversity drives. I feel bad for Rosie Jones as some grey haired, posh, cum flannel in a production office will have their chest puffed out proud they found her. Nah.
Michelle De Swarte is an okay stand up but another who has been pushed way too quickly. Katherine Ryan is funny but she cannot carry an hour and a bit of a tour, I've seen her a few times and the second half is zero comedy and all her doing Q&A like its comic-con

According to many who've went to his shows on forums he does the take the piss out the crowd bit for 15 mins then disappears for 30 whilst someone else fills in and then comes back on and tells a few stories about buying a car etc.Chris_from_Sidcup said:

I saw Stewart Lee in the upstairs room in The Star in Plumstead. Never laughed so much. It was a small room maybe 50 people and he was bringing everyone along with him.4

I'm off to see Clinton Baptiste next month. He is excellent5

Perhaps Stuart Lee is some pound shop tribute act trying desperately to eke out a living with an act based on someone else's material.captainbob said:

I nearly went to the same show in Kingston last night. If Lou Sanders was that bad, I'm glad I didn't, but I believe it was a new material try-out so maybe that material won't make it to any TV shows or tours.fattmatt said:I went to a small pub comedy gig in New Malden last night. Lou Sanders and Milton Jones were trailing their stuff for the Mock the Week recording today.
Milton was fantastic.
However, Lou Sanders, who went first after the MC (who was very good too), bombed. Then at the end, she turned on me in the second row, and told me off for not laughing at her material and asked if I had not enjoyed it.
I have never before seen anything quite like it. I was flabbergasted.
These shows can be a bit hit and miss, the best I've seen being Al Murray in Kennington late last year; absolutely brilliant and such a clever guy with an amazing memory. Rich Hall, too, always puts on a good show at these small venues, though Joe Wilkinson was a total disaster, admitting that all his new material was "shit" and managed about ten minutes before giving up!0 -
This is probably one that's probably more just how he is , Sam Campbell was fantastic on Taskmaster but his stand up I just can't get into. It's way way way too out there.1

It is (only) my opinion but correct from my point of view, which I'm givingFumbluff said:

Everyone is free to 'believe' what they like, although I'm not sure that's the word I'd use. I'd just day I disagree - it's an opinion, not a fact1 -
No, he just wasn't funny - as others have said, it is personal thing. A number of people walked out before the interval and whilst there were people laughing, one particularly manically, a lot of people weren't. I wished we'd left early, but incorrectly thought it would improveSporadicAddick said:PrincessFiona said:Stuart Lee - nothing funny the whole evening

Rosie Jones was funny on Taskmaster, I'll giver her that. I struggle to find Jack Whitehall all that funny, but my kids think he's a genius0

This is like a debate on Marmite.5

I find very little funny these days... In fact only my box set of On the Buses raises a titter!2

95% of so good comedians are not funny.0

Comedy & what/who someone finds funny is completely subjective & individual, so a bit of a pointless thread really

Definitely a Marmite thing, Stewart Lee is my absolute favourite comedian. Just watch the Braveheart sketch in Glasgow:PrincessFiona said:

There's an older regular steward at The Valley who looks the spit of Joe Wilkinson (but a generation older). Have often wondered if it's his old man.0 -
Trouble is, comedy is about timing.ValleyGary said:Most of these are very subjective and all comes down to opinions.
However, I’ve never met or heard someone say they think Rosie Jones is funny.
Anyone that will is either on her payroll or still waiting for her to spit out her punchline.0 -
I like the AllKillaNoFilla podcast, her and Kiri bounce off each other really well.Carter said:I find Lou Sanders pretty funny

Agree - I complete agree with Rizzo on the page before this that unfortunately her cerebral palsy means she's got such a slow delivery that you get what the punchline to a joke is going to be way before she gets there, and so the timing is always off. I get she can't do anything about that but it doesn't work for me.McBobbin said:Rosie Jones was funny on Taskmaster, I'll giver her that. But on Taskmaster where it's more chaotic and unpredictable I didn't have that issue and thought she was funny.1 -
Many years ago we walked out of a Ben Elton show. Crude beyond belief and simply not funny in the slightest which is strange giving the excellent shows like Black Adder which he has helped write.
We have just discovered Have I Got News For You with Ian Hislop and Paul Merton which is so varied and funny with great guests - many of whom are not comedians - and we watch a clip most nights.2 -
