MATCH THREAD : Charlton Athletic V QPR: Friday 6th February 2026 : KO 20.01
Good evening everybody…
Nothing like an evening kick off under the floodlights at The Valley, where we will be looking to make it back-to-back wins after our 2-0 win at Leicester last time out, tonight's opposition is QPR, who currently sit in mid table 11th spot, but over the last six fixtures look to have a similar results history to us and also look like they have sold out the JS stand.
Long term absentees Josh Edwards and Harvey Knibbs as we know, but we are also hopeful that Miles Leaburn's shoulder injury from Leicester has healed and he's ready for tonight, Collins Sichenje is "ready and available" to quote Nathan, so we will see if he's involved.
We've met on 72 previous occasions, winning 25, QPR, 24 and the remaining 23 encounters resulting in draws, they were 3-1 victors in the reverse fixture in August 2025, so time to repay them on that one…
Tom Nield will be the man in the middle …
Team…Charlie Kelman will start against his former club Queens Park Rangers at The Valley tonight.
Nathan Jones makes one change to the side that beat Leicester City on Saturday with Kelman replacing Miles Leaburn, who was forced off at half-time last weekend with a shoulder injury.
Kenyan international Collins Sichenje is named in the matchday squad for the first time.
Kayne Ramsay, Lloyd Jones and Amari’i Bell start in an unchanged back three in front of Thomas Kaminski.
Harry Clarke and Luke Chambers, who both registered assists in last weekend’s 2-0 win at the King Power Stadium, will play as wing-backs. Conor Coady, skipper Greg Docherty and Sonny Carey make up a three-man midfield behind former R’s Kelman and Dykes.
Sichenje is joined on the bench by Will Mannion, Macaulay Gillesphey, Conor Coventry, Joe Rankin-Costello, Luke Berry, Jayden Fevrier, Tyreece Campbell and Matty Godden.
Charlton: Kaminski; Ramsay, Jones, Bell; Clarke, Coady, Carey, Docherty (c), Chambers; Kelman, Dykes
Subs: Mannion, Gillesphey, Sichenje, Coventry, Rankin-Costello, Berry, Fevrier, Campbell, Godden

If he is already back training and he isnt serious, would presume Miles is comfortably back next game.
At home, maybe better utilising Kelman / Godden more anyway.5 -
Shame that Charlton couldn't just tell us that we'd sold Josh to QPR, rather than spinning the "he's injured" bullshit7
-
The 2 ex-QPR strikers up front together. Teams do it to us so lets hope the old trick works & they both score.8
-
2 ex Rangers players up front. Can we strike with the former player curse this time?
Or, what Golfie said

So no Jones . Well done Nathan, who next?
Bell , Coady, Chambers or one from the bench.I need glasses So Sorry Nathan re Jones.11 -
Sichenje not starting is unacceptable. Who does this Jones think he is?28

Shame Leaburn is unavailable, but hopefully the scoring against your old club trend can work in our favour for a change with an all ex-QPR front line. Would love to see Kelman score in front of the Jimmy Seed stand.
Edwards and, arguably, Leaburn aside, that's probably our full strength starting XI and lots of options on the bench.
Our season reboots here.5 -
This will be my first match without my Charlton watching buddy, Lucy. She never failed to watch, or more often sleep through, a match in her Charlton collar. But she loved the clapping I would do when we scored. She passed away in our arms on Sunday. She was so, so loved.

Sorry to hear that, SD. Losing a pet is always so hard. Take heart that the greying snout she is sporting in that picture is, in a dog, a sign of a life well lived. She's frolicking on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge now.SDAddick said:

Commiserations from me and grey-snouted Rufus just to my left.
They leave a massive hole when they go, but she was clearly loved, and you can do no more.4 -
So he's good at woodwork, no end to his talents...😉fenaddick said:Sichenje makes the bench9 -
Mate I’m so sorry for you. We are going through that atm making daily choices if that day is our labs last. Fine line between being kind and a refusal to let go but he is 17 and been a massive part of our familySDAddick said:

Old slimy smyth still getting games I see for his beloved hoops.0

Not surprised Coady retains his place over Coventry, glad to see Kelman starting, hopefully he's well up for this and that little patch of form he was hitting is still there.2

Mate I'm so sorry. Having just had to make that decision, I know how hard it is. Take solace in the fact that when it's time, I truly believe you'll know, that he'll let you know. But that doesn't make it any easier. 17 is a helluva good outing though. Sending you lots of love and lightAndyG said:

Comparisons from tonight, compared to the teams that appeared @ Loftus RoadThose in Red started in our 3-1 defeat, those in Blue came off the bench - Worth pointing out the No. 14 (Saito) for QPR who I thought changed the game when he came on and will be one to keep an eye on this evening.

Serious enough to miss out tonight, hopefully back for Wednesday V Stoke...IR94 said:How serious is Leaburns injury?1
