MATCH PREVIEW: Charlton Athletic vs Stoke City - Wednesday 11th February 2026 - 7:45pm Kick-Off

Charlton Athletic vs Stoke City
Wednesday 11th February 2026 - 7:45pm Kick-Off
Referee: Anthony Backhouse

Introduction
Charlton head into this latest midweek fixture having gone undefeated in our last two games, the Addicks playing out an entertaining 0-0 draw with West London side Queens Park Rangers on Friday evening - This Wednesday we welcome Mark Robins and Stoke City to the Valley for an evening under the floodlights.

The Opposition
Name: Stoke City (13th) - Manager: Mark Robins
Ground: Bet365 Stadium
Previous League Result: West Brom 0-0 Stoke

The last time these two sides met was on a chilly November evening, with Stoke comfortably running out 3-0 winners.

The fortunes for both sides has changed since November though, Charlton continue to fell down the table, whilst Stoke's demise was just about to begin, their 3-0 win at the Valley that evening saw the Potters sit in second place at the end of the evening. But Mark Robins' side have only managed to return three wins and four draws since that game, with their last victory... a 2-0 win at Carrow Road on 4th January which leaves Stoke in 13th spot, whilst defeat this midweek would leave the Potter just four points above the Addicks.

Stoke though took the January Transfer Window as an opportunity to strengthen with five players coming in, either on a permanent deal, or on loan. For example; Gavin Bazanu (Goalkeeper) joined on loan from Southampton, whilst there will be a first return to the Valley for Jesurun Rak-Sakyi since his year in SE7. He joins on loan from Surrey, having spent the first half of the season out in Turkey with Çaykur Rizespor... Not a team I ever expected to mention in a Match Preview.

In terms of head2head; Charlton have 23-wins, compared to Stoke's 26-wins, with the visitors heading to the Capital looking for their first win in five games at the Valley, their last in SE7 coming in a 2-1 win back in 1997, courtesy of two goals in a minute from Mike Sheron.

Charlton Team News
With Stoke heading down to the Valley this Wednesday night, is it of course a reunion between Nathan Jones and one of his former clubs. Less said about that record against Stoke though, with Jones only ever victorious against the Potters on one occasion, losing the other five.

He will be hopeful going into Wednesday night though, given the fact that having conceded six goals in two games, we've now responded by keeping clean sheets and recording four points, out of a possible six in the following two matches - As a result I suspect that we'll see little change in the line-up compared to the one that faced both Leicester and Queens Park Rangers... Of course Miles Leaburn was the most notable absentee from the latter, yet going by Jones' Press Conference ahead of Friday night, it seemed that our last match just came too soon for the Academy Striker.

Kaminski
Ramsay - Jones - Bell
Clarke - Coady - Docherty - Chambers
Carey
Leaburn - Dykes

Substitutes: Mannion - Gillesphey - Fevrier - Costello - Coventry - Berry - Kelman - Godden - Campbell

Worth remembering that the game this Wednesday night will not be on Sky Sports Plus, as its a re-arranged Saturday game, so if you're not in attendance, you'll need to rely on Nord VPN for a CharltonTV match pass. Should also point out that the Portsmouth game next Wednesday will be available to watch on Sky Sports Plus, as despite being a re-arranged Saturday fixture, that game was originally selected for TV Coverage.

The last time these two sides met it was an anything-but chilly evening for me: I was in Sint Maarten and it was bloomin' warm afternoon. Thankfully there was plenty of piña coladas and Mount Gay Eclipse rum to help cool me down and numb the pain of listening to the game.

    It's on Sky
  • My bad... It wasn't showing here: https://www.live-footballontv.com/ which I checked, but can see it there now too
  • 2 nil to us UTA
  • 2-1 to the Addicks. Hoping we don't finish the game by running out of steam.
  • All our home games are now a must not lose. We need a win from at least one of Stoke or Portsmouth. Anything less and the run of awkward games to follow will be very very difficult for us. 1 - 1

Don't let the Kenyans see that lineup FA!

NJ will be the next one to appear with a black eye.

Be bold NJ and put Sichenje on the bench over Gillesphey and Fullah ahead of Berry.

The QPR game felt winnable and this felt drawable but if we're going to get ourselves up the table and away from stressing every week we could do with making this one a win. Stoke are a million miles from what they were when we last played them and them not being to turn over West Brom on Saturday should hopefully indicate that they're a side we can get at. If we'd scored in that first half against QPR we would have seen the game out so the focus has to be on making sure we keep up our defensive solidity and make the most of the moments we get to go in front. A 1-0 win however it comes is what I'm hoping for and a chance for us to get that little big closer to 50 points

Isn’t the Pompey game on the Tuesday?
  • Although it’s a highly unlikely scenario but Stake are four points off sixth place. A late run of form is what they will be looking for. It would need to start on Wednesday though being realistic. We’re also just about reach that time in the season when teams comfortably ensconced in mid table start to lose their edge. I’m hoping for Stoke it’s very much the latter. I’m still going for a low scoring draw though because of Charltons infuriating inability to take their chances.

Think we're going to keep pottering away until we win, 1-0 Addicks.
  • They are in very poor form. This is a game we could really do with winning - it would also take some of the pressure off the Pompey game.  Ideally we would win both and put real distance between us and the bottom clubs.  Dreaming.

Another team with injury issues so we really need to do what we can to get 3 points here. Play the ref, shithouse tactics but mostly..take the chances if/when they come to us.

4 points from the next 2 home games would see us with an average of 2 points from the last 4 games and moving away from the bottom 3.

More clinical in front of goal is much needed after the QPR game

I really have absolutely no idea what the score will be for this.

I'll go for Charlton 0-2 Stoke

I have in my head we played Stoke midweek at the The Valley and one of their players scored a cracking long range left foot shot into the top corner. For some reason I think a Scandinavian.

I have in my head it was about 10 years ago, but I can’t see a fixture that matched up. Sure it’s Stoke because I remember they had low away numbers but sung Delilah loud.

    Anyone help?

Sounds like a League Cup two legger from 2000. Remember the goal.

We went out on away goals so a slight improvement on our usual cup performances.

I keep putting our lack of goals down to luck, so surely our luck has to change sometime, we can't go the entire season not scoring can we?

Tough game this one, I really thought we would beat QPR and then struggle against Stoke. Has to be better subs on Wednesday.

Apparently Stoke and WBA were both awful on Saturday in the 0-0 draw. Hopefully they maintain that form and we can nick a win, if we play how we did against QPR then it’s 3 points to the addicks. COYR.

Shame it sounds like its still going to be too soon for Leaburn to start. But I liked the look of Kelmen, was surprised he seemed to get a load of stick on here after QPR
