  • Didn't even realise Italy played cricket until today. So i looked up their T20 world cup team.

    None born in Italy.

    Captain is South African.

2 sets of brothers in the team, who are all Australian.

Another South African who admitted he’s never even been to Italy.

Sounds like we could give them a decent game

With a couple of exceptions, the majority are barely county/state players. Many of their squad have some sort of connection with England too:

    Grant Stewart plays for Kent

Wayne Madsen (who dislocated his shoulder in the match) is the 42 year-old captain of Derbyshire

Marcus Campopiano was born in London, is a coach for Surrey's Women's team and has played club and minor county cricket all his life here

Jaspreet Singh moved to England a few years ago and plays for Stourbridge in the Birmigham & District PL

Ben Manenti had any number of games for Kent 2s a few seasons ago and for four years was at Roffey CC in the Sussex League

Anthony Mosca played for Canterbury in the Kent League in 2024

Justin Mosca played for Tenterden in the Kent League in 2018

J J Smuts played for Upminster for a couple of years in the Essex League

Thomas Draca played for St James's Montefiore for a couple of years in the  Sussex League

Gian-Piero Meade is a graduate of Teeside University

I wonder if many Italians watched that match?

Hopefully Madsen is alright. Leader of Derbyshire.

Another small nation in Canada but with probably more connections to the sport than Italy are against the giants Sarf Africa. Trying to keep them below 200 in the s.a innings

Especially when they lose their skipper first ball. You can't even back SA on Betfair, only lay them at 1.01

Good hearing Carbs on TMS during this Canada innings. Canada are 135/7. Their innings has just peated out.

Bangladesh have opened the door for Pakistan to play India. They asked them to go ahead and play their game against India and appreciated the solidarity that Pakistan has shown them.
So the biggest match in cricket is back on. ICC breath a sigh of relief.
  • Pakistan set the USA a target of 190

Following Shadley van Schalkwyk's return of 4-25 for the USA against India, he recorded exactly the same figures today against Pakistan for remarkable overall tournament figures of 8-0-50-8

Incredible game between South Africa and Afghanistan that ebbed and flowed. Despite an awful final over from Rabada that included not one but two front foot "no balls" and a wide too, Fazalhaq was run out with two balls to go by inches for Afghanistan to be all out for 187and scores tied.

    Super over to follow.

Afg needed 12 off final over, 9 wickets down

1 - caught out, game over, wait, no ball given. 1NB
    2 - 1 WIDE
    3 - Dot ball
    4 - 6
    5 - dot ball
    6 - 3NB
7 - RUN OUT going for game winning second run - tied and going to Super Over

If South Africa do lose then Rabada is to blame. Two front foot no balls and a wide simply isn't acceptable at the highest level.

Will be pleased for Jonathan Trott should Afghanistan do win though.

South Africa to bat first. Brevis can't bat because he was out and neither of the two bowlers who bowled in the first Super Over can do so in this one.

Meanwhile Australia have big issues. Both Cummins and Hazlewood were ruled out of the tournament before it began and now both Mitchell Marsh and Tim David have been ruled out of today's game against Ireland.

Head has been run out already.

Absolutely crazy game. No idea what South Africa were doing bowling Maharaj nor why Nabi was sent out to bat.

Smith was excellent in the Big Bash.

Not sure why he wasnt in their squad to start with

Australia 69-3 (7). Maxwell is now in and it will be interesting to see how he performs given how low on confidence he was in the Big Bash - just 76 runs at 15.20, 2-139 with the ball and he dropped at least three sitters.
  • Exciting as the super overs were, why can't they just have a tie in the group stage?

Precisely because of what happened this morning, a game many would have ignored got a load more viewers
