I have in my head we played Stoke midweek at the The Valley and one of their players scored a cracking long range left foot shot into the top corner. For some reason I think a Scandinavian.

I have in my head it was about 10 years ago, but I can’t see a fixture that matched up. Sure it’s Stoke because I remember they had low away numbers but sung Delilah loud.

    Anyone help?
Sounds like a League Cup two legger from 2000. Remember the goal.

We went out on away goals so a slight improvement on our usual cup performances.
What a game. Of which I have no recollection. Can't even remember the early rounds of the league cup being over two legs.

Worth remembering that the game this Wednesday night will not be on Sky Sports Plus, as its a re-arranged Saturday game, so if you're not in attendance, you'll need to rely on Nord VPN for a CharltonTV match pass. Should also point out that the Portsmouth game next Wednesday will be available to watch on Sky Sports Plus, as despite being a re-arranged Saturday fixture, that game was originally selected for TV Coverage.
Isn’t the Pompey game on the Tuesday?
    Yes

Shame it sounds like it’s still going to be too soon for Leaburn to start. But I liked the look of Kelmen, was surprised he seemed to get a load of stick on here after QPR
Agree with this. I’d like to see Dykes / Kelman partnership given a proper chance.

Another tough game .. but Stoke have been on a poor run … on Saturday they played 4231 with Saki and Thomas as the wide players but their not great defenders and their job is to make sure Charlton wing backs don’t move forward .. … very similar to QPR second half on Friday…… going for another draw , I had this down as a defeat but I think we can get come away with a result .. team news expect unchanged unless he wants to play Leaburn again ..
  • Personally thought Stoke were the most unlikeable team we've played this season. Constant diving or falling over like they'd been shot every time a Charlton player got anywhere near them. Add to that 2 very flukey goals and I want us to beat them more than any team we've still got to play.

I think we'll rotate a couple for this:

    Kaminski
    Ramsay - Jones - Bell
Clarke - Coventry- Docherty - Chambers
    Carey
    Kelman - Dykes

    Substitutes: Mannion - Gillesphey - Fevrier - Costello - Coady - Berry - Leaburn- Godden - Campbell

Okay so we might rotate Cov and Coady not a couple at all

Defo can win but have to start taking chances. Heart says a win but id take another draw if offered and then get a win against Pompey

  • Burke has been missing from the squad for the last 2 games.

Anyone know if he's injured (again) or on the naughty step after his appalling performance at Millwall?

It was such a stunning goal that everyone clapped. I think we were two divisions above them at the time

Sorba Thomas and JRS are two very good Championship wingers. I believe the question is around what's around them and who they're crossing to.

Stoke are a stubborn side defensively so we're going to really, really need to take our chances. As mentioned elsewhere, they're dealing with a lot of injuries at the moment.

I'm hoping we nick this and take a bit of pressure off the Pompey game.

I think we'll be unchanged with Miles returning to the bench in place for Collins Sichenje.

That’ll go down well in Kenya! Not.

Miles can have Berry's bench slot. Got to have a defender on the bench

Need to win.  Up to the players to show they’ve got the quality to unlock Stoke.

I know Macca's out of form and probably out of his depth, but he still counts as a defender!

Godden is our best striker so as far as i am concerned if he's fit he should start. The decision then is who plays with him, probably Kelman or Dykes

He didn't look fit when he came on v QPR.
    He looked slow and stiff.

    Kaminski

    Clarke
    Coady
    Jones
    Bell
    Chambers

    Docherty
    Coventry
    Carey

    Dykes
    Kelman

They are a set piece nightmare and think Ramsay might get ruined in the air from them

If we're going to leave out Ramsay I'd rather see Burke in his place. I don't think Coady has the pace to play RCB.

Fancy a 2-1 win - JRS bound to score against us, fancy TC and Carey to shine for us. Could do with Burke and Leaburn for additional height and physicality but who knows where they are at?

    Kaminsky
    Ramsay  Jones   Bell
    Clarke  Coady Docherty Chambers
    Carey
    Dykes TC

Substitutes: Mannion, Gillesphey, Sichenje, Fevrier,  JRC, Coventry, Berry, Kelman, Godden

I think experience reading the game, positioning and organising others are just as important for a CB and can cover up for a bit of a lack of pace.
I remember Matty Holland having to play at the back due to injuries. Not the tallest nor the quickest but had those attributes I mentioned and he did bloody well.

I hope we don’t see Godden and Kelman together very often, they’re too similar. We need one of Leaburn or Dykes as a target man or TC for his pace.

If Jes is going to score against us, we’ve got our own ex-Potter to step up and smash home the winner…step forward @bobmunro your time has come  🙌🏻🙌🏻😉

On paper these next two games are our best opportunities for home wins for the rest of the year. Admittedly, this is not accounting for any future changes in form.

Stoke are on an extended poor run and we have to try and capitalise on that - this report suggests they are going through similar issues that we've seen recently.

We need both wing backs to play well defensively and be backed up by the wide centre backs. Their centre backs fare quite well when it comes to aerial duels. I don't see Jones changing the way we play too much, but I wonder if this could be the game to start TC and see if he has any joy for 60 mins.

This feels like a hugely important game; win tomorrow and we roll into next week on a high, with a decent bit of momentum. Lose and it will feel like two steps forward and one step back. I am cautiously optimistic. This would be MY team, but I think Jones will go unchanged or maybe bring Leaburn in for Kelman if he's fit.

    Kaminski
    Ramsay - Jones - Bell
    Clarke - Coady - Docherty - Chambers
    Carey
    Dykes - TC

    Charlton 2-0 Stoke
