Great to see him get some minutes. Thought he looked very sharp. Superb finish too, shame he was offside3

Was never going to be the same when he came back, powered through injury, deserves us to pay his post career plans (should he decide to stay in the game).

Would like to see him in a player coach role next season, rather than rocking up at Bromley or Gillingham.
But I think he’d said he wanted to go into wealth management, a while back, so maybe not ready to hang up his boots just yet?1 -
Would happily activate the option on his deal , think he's still got a lot to offer and will be an excellent mentor to have around for Kanu,Mbick and Kelman with his experience even if he's not a regular starter.10
-
if we had Hylton as a squad player in League 1 last season, having Godden do the same in the Champ is a no brainer.10
-
Yeah from that interview he doesn’t intend to stay in football, management and coaching didn’t seem to interest him.Mendonca In Asdas said:Would like to see him in a player coach role next season, rather than rocking up at Bromley or Gillingham.

The interview the other day he talked about playing until he’s 40.
Probably worth activating the extension to have him around, but beyond that he might be happy to work his way down the leagues so he can continue playing.2 -

They should set him a project- to train TC into an opportunity seeking goalscoring striker- he's got till the end of the season.shine166 said:

Got the feeling that Goddens opportunism is innate, and not transferable.0 -
As much as I love Godden we can’t be throwing big money at a player who’s just going to be a mentor and he’s said himself he wants to play. We have minimum 7 strikers on the books next season 8 if we want to keep Dykes. We also had 4 forwards who were capable of playing L1 football last year in Godden/Aneke/Leaburn/TC we don’t have the quality of forwards this year in the CH so we need to make room to bring better forwards in.2

Someone is very prominent in that training video.....bench saturday maybe??1

Awesome technique and finish. He can do things in two touches that most of our players would take ten to execute!1
-
Seeing the goal yesterday you can clearly see the logic in trying to mould Kelman into a new version of Godden but also how far off he still is from reaching it. Kelman has a good touch, decent skill and the finishing instinct but it's the "meta" part of the game, the knowledge of how to make the right moves and influence a game without the ball that Godden is far superior at._uptheaddicks said:Awesome technique and finish. It is the runs that Godden makes that put him in the right position.5

Goddens movement is absolutely top class. Kelman needs to spend the summer just watching Goddens movement.
I'd be activating that club option straight away because there's always going to be a place in a squad for a poacher like him.

Agree about his movement. It's how he wins headers he has no right to, by his movement off of centre backs.MarcusH26 said:Goddens movement is absolutely top class. Kelman needs to spend the summer just watching Goddens movement.

Such a great player to have in the squad, he just makes things happen and that's not luck: he is so proactive, does not stop moving and is a nightmare for defenders.
It's a tricky decision re contract extension. I would keep him around as he seems like a great locker room presence, I love having his experience for the younger players (TC called Godden his 'goat' on instagram yesterday!) and clearly he still has loads to offer on the pitch.
However, if he's on big money (let's say he's in the top 9 of the new 9+9+9 model), then I don't think he justifies that. I don't know what his wages are, but for me it comes down to how else we can spend that. I think most fans would love to see him here next year, but those in control of the purse strings will be looking at it without sentiment.0 -
If we sign Dykes, we'll have plenty of strikers in the building.elbiglad said:Such a great player to have in the squad, he just makes things happen and that's not luck: he is so proactive, does not stop moving and is a nightmare for defenders.

Don't forget, Kanu and M'Bick will be back, after very successful loan spells.
Seems a no-brainer to keep him around, rather than spend money on getting another striker, when there are more important positions to spend on...1 -
Think Kanu is an interesting one. Will be interesting to see how he looks in preseason and if he's someone we look to challenge with a League 1 loan (Bromley or AFCW) or if he stays around and tries to compete to start for us.SteveACS said:

I definitely agree that midfield and creativity should be our priority. I am keen to see Knibbs come back as I liked what I saw from him at Reading and in his limited game time this year.ForeverAddickted said:SteveACS said:

That being said, we don't know what will be available and if there are potential improvements to be made ANYWHERE then we should be pursuing it if we have the means to do so. I don't think any of our strikers are untouchable in terms of their place in the team or as a potential outgoing.1 -
Having watched the quality of player in the championship, if we plan on using either Kanu, Mbick next season as high up the list options we are going nowhere fast. With respect to them both they have performed in league 2, a long way from the quality we need. Anyone that seriously feels they are options really can’t have been taking notice of this season.0

Could probably get rid of a couple from that list.MarcusH26 said:

Dykes ,Leaburn,Godden,Kelman, Mbick and TC is plenty of strikers.
If we are keeping Godden then Dykes is not needed. And Leaburn hasn't shown enough in this division to keep going forward.
TC isnt a striker so you can cross him off that list too.
Mbick & Kanu probably need another season out on loan. They certainly aren't Championship strikers as of yet.
If we are serious about not only staying in this League next season but also making strides up the table then we need much better strikers than what we've had this season.0 -
I’m fairly convinced we have a gentleman’s agreement with dykes that he’s free to look elsewhere after the World Cup this summer. With Godden looking like he might finally be back, the money spent on Kelman and mbick and Kanu back it probably makes sense. Although would like another striker through the door if we get rid of tanto which is probable.0

Perhaps you could offer the owners the £20 million plus, you have stowed down the back of the sofa?golfaddick said:

Look how much Birmingham paid for Stansfield. In League One.

Well both can be true. We DO realistically need to improve the strikers available to us, but that will be expensive. The owners are the ones who have to thread that needle, maybe there is some way to find a diamond in the rough Sichenje style but low cost generally comes with low reward.SteveACS said:
