+++ Lyndon Dykes signs a six month contract +++

It’s been said in this thread earlier but he really looks like NJ went to a lab to genetically engineer his perfect striker. Real warrior. Though when Godden went off thought he tired and wasn’t so good in the press. Exceptional assist though.3
-
If he does end up leaving this summer hope he gets a very good send off played a huge part in what looks like keeping us up2
-
Was a man mountain tonight one particular challenge where he brought the ball down on his chest and the defender fell on his ass was proper class and his little flicks and control really surprise me I also hope we could keep him on next season too.3
-
Happy to have any of Birmingham and Wrexham's cast offs if they are as decent as Dykes and Coady.7
-
Great hold-up and clever player... Give him a contract4

Warming to him, my bad.Alwaysneil said:Dont like him4 -
Been impressed with him, I thought he was going to be a leggy carthorse. For a taller / type of player he is, he's pretty mobile.0
-
Along with everyone else it seems the bloke is surprising me ! I hope he get into Scotlands WC team so cafc have an interest0
-
When the ball is thrust into his vicinity, you just expect something to come from it. Proper warrior0
-
Fabulous headed assist last night. Has been exactly what we’ve been missing all season and that’s a presence up front.0

An assist or goal every two games for us. Brilliant start. Also four 90 minute games, one 87 minutes, and a 45 minute (first game). Great to a new player come in and immediately ready for full games.2

Much better than I had expected. Leaburn will learn a lot of him once he is back from injury.3

First thing that struck me was his mobility and fitness. For a player who hasn't played much, he's kept himself very fit and sharp. My QPR mate told me to expect 100% effort and that's what we've had so far.
But QPR mate also said that he won't attack crosses. We had a good curving ball in from Clarke in the 2nd half but I noticed Dykes was stood still on the edge of the area. I'd like to see him make determined runs towards the 6 yard box, when it's obvious the ball is coming in. This can be worked on at the training ground.
Overall he's done really well but I think we could get more out of him and if he were to get a few more goals, it would do his World Cup chances no harm.0 -
he's a real handful and technically a far better player than I gave him credit for
would love to sign him0 -
For all the hand-wringing when we let Tanto go Dykes has already got more combined goals and assists in just 6 games and has impacted games even when he hasn't been involved in goals. That's what Tanto needed to be doing, putting himself about, making defenders' lives difficult, tracking back when needed and bringing others into the game. I hope he's watching how Dykes plays because that's how you succeed in this team3
-
Not sure that we'll be seeing Tanto again regardless of if we keep Dykes. Cows arses and banjo's come to mind, and at 26 its debatable how much improvement he's got in him.0
-
Tanto's a funny one as for all his physical attributes he's not a target man. He has pace but doesn't use it to create chances for himself and others as often as TC. He's never going to be a poacher/finisher like Godden or Kelman. Jones only signs hard workers, so it's not as if he's more effective at pressing than our other strikers.Garrymanilow said:For all the hand-wringing when we let Tanto go Dykes has already got more combined goals and assists in just 6 games and has impacted games even when he hasn't been involved in goals. My guess is he'll move on in the summer, potentially back to Stockport. To compare to TC again, he does enough (and is younger) that gives you hope we'll see more end product at this level. It's hard to see that happening for Tanto, and he's not going to develop it without game time at this level.
I can see why we took a chance on him, but he didn't make enough of an impact. Dykes has done and looks comfortable playing in this league in a way that Tanto never quite did.1 -
Interesting that Olaofe made comments on his loan return about needing to feel more love or be appreciated more, Dykes doesn't seem to particularly care and just relishes a good old fashioned scrap, the centre forward version of Pearce almost.Garrymanilow said:For all the hand-wringing when we let Tanto go Dykes has already got more combined goals and assists in just 6 games and has impacted games even when he hasn't been involved in goals. I agree, I think Tanto has to decide what kind of player he's going to be and develop into it. When we signed him I thought he was going to be competition for TC and there was a decent part of me thought he'd push him out of his spot just by being more aggressive and strong but I was amazed at how unable he seemed to be to pull wide and dart in with the ball. I think Jones was too and he started playing him more as a target man but Tanto isn't good at judging a header and has a really poor touch so he's not holding up the ball or flicking it on. His finishing is also poor and has clearly annoyed Jones so he's not much good playing off the defender's shoulder either. He can't fix all these things so he needs to focus on being one of those players; work on his positioning, touch and heading to become a hold up striker or learn how to be an inside forward because all the physical attributes are there and he's definitely capable of influencing games if he can figure it outScoham said:

Terminated his contract at Birmingham to get a move down here. Come in worked his socks off and got 5 G/A in 8 and 1/2 games of championship football. What an absolute legend16

Didn't stop running again and was a general pain... One of few players to come out of today with any credit. Worth a new contract2

If he gets five goals this season, I'll replicate his tattoos on my own body.Callumcafc said:I don’t expect him to score that many goals in his half a season here - five would be an excellent return. I think he’ll frustrate a few people in the stands because of that but he’ll work his nuts off to Jones’ plan and that will make us a better team overall.10 -
Need to offer him an extension for next season.
No brainer and we get paid for him going to the World Cup too.4 -
A thoroughbred surrounded by nags0

Beautiful control and finish for the goal.0

Limited but battles extremely well and took that goal superbly.Never going to light up the division but does the dirty work superbly.
Doesn’t work with Leaburn though.1 -
He is much faster than I thought he'd be. Great first touch for the goal and a calm finish. I'd already panicked long before the shot came so I'm glad he didn't1
