That was the only home game I missed that season (not that I've had been involved). Killer scored his last goal for the club that day so I missed that as well.

In the 60's my mum used to have a catalogue book, when I recently moved home I found an old scrap book of mine with a cutting from that catalogue. This must have been about 1967. Firmani, Kinsey, Glover and Wright, I don't recognise the 2nd from right and the one on the end I can't recall his name.

Remember that game - think i was 13 and not allowed to go in the covered end for games like pompey that might be a bit 'tasty' - was standing with my dad etc on the east terrace (which turned out to be the battle ground) as the goalkeeper from my sunday side (a big lad for his age) went tearing past with a scarf wrapped round his face - with a load of others heading towards the away end as pompey spilled out of that. A bit later in the season he got sent off for threatening to stab the ref  -  He was from Thamesmead.   :D

  • I think the player on the extreme right is Peter Burridge.

    😂 I was 6 at the time.
  • Not sure about the lad second right, but could be Cliff Myers.

"Do you have any idea why the pages of the bra section of my Littlewoods catalogue are stuck together?"
"No mum not a clue, maybe the dog got hold of it."

It's definitely Peter Burridge on the right and I think it is Cliff Myers next to him.

Here's a picture of Cliff from his obituary page:

    Cliff Myers

He didn't play many games for us, but we did do an RIP thread in 2019.

Players jumped much higher in the 1950's.

This is attributable to global warming.  As the ice-caps melt, the mass of the Earth has increased and this has made gravity much stronger than it was immediately post-War.

If Newton was alive today, he may well have been concussed by the falling apple.

    Cameramen were also smaller.

Amazing when you realise he was only about 5ft 6in tall.
  • And what a player
Took the bus to the Valley on match days
Very happy to chat with passengers also going to the game

Some proper 80's woolen wear there!

Had a few fine examples myself.

I've got the VHS and audio somewhere. I'm sure that the museum would have them to hand.
