+++ Charlton complete Thomas Kaminski signing +++

Its a bit like the pitch.
The perception is that its not obviously / significantly better than went before. And, given we are told limited budgets, it feels like a waste of the transfer budget.
Interestingly I think all the January signings have looked like a step up / enhancement relative to the impact of the summer recruits.
Of course the result influences opinion but Kaminski has not enjoyed unanimous support from game1.0 -
I’ve noticed more and more recently he’s very much not a team player. His concern always seems to be of vanity in nature and his own mistakes are normally met with throwing his hands up, watching it back on a screen or shouting at his defence, à la last night post-25-yard-nutmeg. I think I posted back in the autumn how reticent our players are to pass it back to him and it shows.
Jury’s out whether Mannion would be any better but for me he needs moving on in the summer, a few very good saves in a few games paper over some extremely large cracks.1 -
Flapinski was shocking for the first goal and set the tone for the game.He has been excellent in other games, but also terrible in others. He lacks consistency. He’s been an average signing overall and I agree with the sentiment that his wages could have been used for better effect if spent elsewhere2

I detest Hermann Hreidarsson and everything he stands forTalal said:
Hermann Hreidarsson was relegated 5 times in the premier league. I don't think anyone would've accused him of not being up for the scrap so not sure it's relevant.Weegie Addick said:It’s a real worry that he’s been relegated the last two seasons. Doesn’t give confidence that he’s up for the scrap.

I think that’s a stretch to say the least - his contribution to those goals was a standard goal kick both times and nothing more. The real work was done by the attackers. Much like our clean sheet record, this just feels like completely misplaced praiseGarrymanilow said:
Well no it's not my opinion, watch our goals against Sheffield United away and Stoke at home. It's just reality that he was central to those goals with his passing. Sometimes his kicks are bad, more so to be honest when he's got shorter passes to make where he sometimes puts us under pressure with loose passes, but you said he can't get them over the halfway line or get the ball to our strikers and I've given you two examples of goals he started off in 1-0 wins where he played a goal kick out to the striker's head and a goal followed. No opinion there, just what happened. What you said is purely false.cafc4life said:
Thats obviously your opinion but watch him next game for his kicking and its total shite. Along with everything else he is meant to do as a keeper.Garrymanilow said:
You don't have to like the player, that's up to you, but statements like that are just stupid. You only have to look at his involvement in our goals against Sheff Utd and most recently Stoke to see that he's been a part of some winning goals for us with excellent balls up the pitch. Might not be every time but then no keeper is pinpointing goal kicks every gamecafc4life said:I detest him and the fact he is our highest earner.
He cannot even get the ball over the half way line from a Goal Kick.
Imagine the instruction to your team being punt it long to the 2 big lumps up top and our keeper cant ever get it there off the deck.

Dont even get me started on his shot stopping or command of his area.1 -
Think there's always "ifs and buts", but, if we were 1~0 up in the first minute when we should have scored, if we went onto win the game ~0, it would have been 4 consecutive clean sheets and most of this thread wouldn't exist. Yes, he made an error for the first. But a lot of people on this site criticise our defence week in week out. Back 4 ? Back 5 ? Defenders to blame for mistakes leading to goals ? WB's out of position ?
Being honest, I didn't see much of Mannion last season so can't compare, but (that word again) that was against L1 attacks.
NJ has my trust (whatever that is worth) to pick the best 'keeper for the next game.

That is not just down to the keeper. It is defending by the whole team.ElfsborgAddick said:For all the criticism of Kaminski, he has kept the most amount of clean sheets in the Championship this season.3 -
Overall I've been disappointed. I expected more but his mistakes get way more coverage than the games where he's won us points and there have been a few. What I don't get is people having a go at him for his wages. Seriously, was he supposed to say "No, I'm not worth that much. Make me a lower offer"?1

Both of the Delvin’s goals weren’t in the top corners and I would expect a keeper to at least get a hand to both.5

Come off it, in both cases he’s sent the ball directly onto the target man’s head and he’s flicked it on to create the chance. That’s what he’s supposed to do and, once again, shows that the claim that the keeper ‘cannot even get the ball over the halfway line from a Goal Kick’ and can’t get the ball to ‘the 2 big lumps up top’ isn’t true, which is what I was replying to in the first place.ns9 said:

I actually think he is one of our major issues the way we play. Im not a fan and would rather Mannion for a few games. It might waken them both up a bit0
-
I think the bigger issue is that he doesn’t inspire confidence in his back line and although he’s pulled off some pretty big saves over the season, he also looks like he can drop a clanger and doesn’t command his area.I think if we stay up and Jones stays, he’s our number one again next year, but there’s something about him that just puts me off and I think we need better0

There is a catalogue of weaknesses in his game.He has only just started to come off his line, before last 3 games rooted, the former is a slight positive the latter a weakness. He struggles to catch the ball and prefers a punch or flap.
he is not good at controlling where these punches or flaps go which has led to several goals in the follow up.
He does not seem to speak to his defence apart from to complain when he lets a goal in that his protection wasn't good enough.
His distribution even allowing for the poor movement ahead of him is nearly always painfully slow and he struggles to kick the ball over the half way line two times from three.
He appears slow to move which has meant he has let in some shots where you think 'how has he been beaten from there?'
To counter that, he has made some good reflex and double saves.5 -

If he’s a keeper you pick up on a free, didn’t have such a good pedigree and wasn’t the highest paid players he looks like a great signing.Because he’s all of the above he looks like a poor signing. He’s shown he can be class and he can make mistakes so equals out to be quite average so then u have to base on the context of the signing1

I take your point, but Craig McGillivray kept 16 clean sheets for us in a League One. And I'm not sure that says much about his goalkeeping that season.ElfsborgAddick said:For all the criticism of Kaminski, he has kept the most amount of clean sheets in the Championship this season.2 -
He's a decent keeper in my mind but appears to have a bit of an ego just like our manager. Instead of throwing hands in the air after fucking up and in NJ'S case ranting at pissed off angry supporters take some accountability for the shit show that went down.0

He was poor IMO tonight but there's no way he's a "waste of money" a "fucking liability" or "not championship standard" so pack it in FFS.
Given the choice I’d give Mannion a chance who looks a better keeper to me.
I can't remember a worse mistake from a Charlton goalie in 50 years.
Why did he try and kick the ball?
Who in their right mind tries to save a stinging shot like that?
I was speechless.
I'm not saying Mannion is better, how can I, I've not see him play in The Championship.
But it's still my view that he looks a better keeper than Kaminski and he deserves the chance to see if he is.4 -

I’d say it’s not even the worst of Jones’ tenure… Harry Isted would like a word.Covered End said:

Only to be disappointed when he did get in.0 -
