MATCH THREAD : Charlton Athletic V Birmingham : Saturday 7th March 2026 : KO 15:00
Hi one and all…
Today, Birmingham rock up at The Valley and another important fixture awaits…Wrexham last week we deserved something from, but thankfully teams around us had an off day as well, but we can't keep relying on other results to get us over the line, so today is the day Charlton, three points would be ideal, so have a go ffs…Birmingham are a hard to predict team, and have lost the last two against Middlesboro and "that lot", but sit in mid table on 49 points, and will be tricky today..
Nathan has cast doubts on Sichenje and Bell after last week, hopefully they are fit and ready to go, we all know about the long termers, Kaminski is close to returning,..
We've gone toe-to-toe on 69 previous occasions, winning 24, the Blues winning 23 and the remaining 22 fixtures ending in draws, so pretty even stevens, the reverse fixture in December 2025 resulted in a 1-1 draw, with Tyreece Campbell on the scoresheet at St. Andrew’s.
James Linington will be the man in the middle this weekend…
TEAM…Luke Chambers and captain Greg Docherty return to the starting XI for this afternoon’s game…
Nathan Jones makes two changes to his side with Reece Burke and Luke Berry, who both picked up injuries last weekend, not involved.
Kayne Ramsay, Lloyd Jones and Amari’i Bell are likely to start in a back three in front of Will Mannion.
Harry Clarke and Chambers will operate as wing-backs with Conor Coventry, Sonny Carey and Docherty in midfield behind Lyndon Dykes and Tyreece Campbell.
Tiernan Brooks, Macaulay Gillesphey, Conor Coady, Keenan Gough, Joe Rankin-Costello, Ibrahim Fullah, Jayden Fevrier, Miles Leaburn and Charlie Kelman are named on the substitutes bench. There is no place for Collins Sichenje, who also picked up an injury last weekend.
Charlton: Mannion; Ramsay, Jones, Bell; Clarke, Coventry, Carey, Docherty (c), Chambers; Dykes, Campbell
Subs: Brooks, Gillesphey, Coady, Gough, Rankin-Costello, Fullah, Fevrier, Leaburn, Kelman

It would be good to win today, obviously, at the absolute minimum they need to put in a decent performance.
Why?
Today would have been my Mum's birthday.
It's also the 6th anniversary of the last match she attended. Mum and Dad got back from Australia in the morning, came to the game in the afternoon (ironically against Boro ... and we lost ☹️) then we went into Covid lockdown soon after. A year later she was diagnosed with cancer and lost her battle 18 months later.
So put in a decent shift for my Mum!29 -
Wild punt: Kaheim Dixon involved. This almost certainly won't happen to be clear but I'll look like a genius if it does5

Aww... No Berry!!4

Doc replaces Berry, Chambers is back and Coventry keeps his place. Fullah and Gough both make the bench. No sign of Sichenje or Burke0
-
No Collins? Weird, was only cramp....

Like that starting line up and the bench has some potency if needed. Shame about Collins hopefully he isn’t out long as he really did add to our ability to pass forward with intent1

I thought he went off injured last game, although you will put me right 😀ForeverAddickted said:Aww... No Berry!!0 -

Berry good decision.ForeverAddickted said:Aww... No Berry!!2 -
Wonder if Berry got replaced last week because of injury then...?
Fair few injuries for #cafc to contend with today - no Kaminski, Sichenje, Burke or Berry for the visit of Birmingham City.

Chambers comes in with Docherty also starting. Coady on the bench after being ineligible v Wrexham.3 -
Leg was amputated as a result.shine166 said:No Collins? Weird, was only cramp....
We're just waiting for a new one to grow in the lab so it can be grafted back on.8 -

Back to the midfield that started the season of Cov, Doch & Carey.
Still not enough goals in the team but hey ho.0 -
Surprised he hasn't opted to put Coady back in
Back to the side from the start of the season though, in essence
The midfield and defensive 3s, a with TC, but now Dykes in for Kelman, Clarke and Chambers in for Apter and Edwards0 -
There is no place for Collins Sichenje, who also picked up an injury last weekend.

I like that XI, think it's the best we can offer really (maybe Collins in there somewhere) but largely depends on the impact TC can have here, need a big game from him to win here imo2
-
If TC has one of his hanging around looking like a 5 year old who has dropped his ice cream on the floor games, we will lose5

Shame Collins is out but it was pretty obvious to all there that he held his hamstring at the end of the last match. Mad we made him stay on the last 3-4 minutes and just hope it is not too bad.
Not confident.3 -

To me there is a balanced and comfortably familiar look to the team.
Mind you Birmingham have so much money even those who seem anonymous to me might be decent players.0 -
I'll be delighted if we even score a goal for the rest of the season let alone win a game1
-
Stansfield on the bench for them. Will come on and score probably! Hope we can make use of any early chances.0

Afternoon folks, welcome to The Valley of Shattered Dreams.8 -

Fullah to come on late doors and ping one! 2-0 Charlton1

No Dixon but Gough does make the bench so could be an interesting wild card if he's there on merit and not just a spare body to make up numbers.Leuth said:Wild punt: Kaheim Dixon involved. This almost certainly won't happen to be clear but I'll look like a genius if it does0 -
