2026/27 Season Tickets (Pricing and Message from Gavin Carter, pg.8)

If the Charlton marketing team, or their marketing agency, read this, please accept some customer feedback.
"This is what commitment looks like" as a marketing strapline for season tickets irks me.
It implies that those that don't buy one are not committed, which is bollocks.
I will buy one because I can, but that doesn't make me any more committed than the fan that doesn't buy one, a decision that can be made for any number of reasons.
Guilt based advertising can be effective when a purchase by your target audience is discretionary. When it isn't discretionary, then it can backfire, in terms of both brand sentiment and actual conversion.
You're welcome.3 -
Also, if the commercial team are reading this, the website is now non compliant under the terms of the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 (DMCC Act), which took effect from 6 April 2025, but which now has enforcement powers, effective 28th February 2026
It is now illegal to add a transaction fee, which is mandatory, to a sale. That mandatory cost must be shown at the initial "invitation to purchase" as a component part of the ticket price. The addition of a £1.50 "eSRO Transaction Fee" at the final stage of the web purchase process is what is known as "drip pricing", the use of which can result in a fine of £300k or 10% of global turnover, whichever is the greater.22 -
Sorting a donation from a lifer yesterday and came across this 2000/01 flyer.
A quarter of a century ago but in the top flight.
Far fewer price points, Just two adult prices in fact.

Thanks - will highlight this to the club. Particularly pertinent re match day tickets too.SporadicAddick said:Also, if the commercial team are reading this, the website is now non compliant under the terms of the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 (DMCC Act), which took effect from 6 April 2025, but which now has enforcement powers, effective 28th February 2026

I gave up my season ticket during the Roland boycott, really regret the decision and now have family commitments over the weekend that makes it unrealistic to purchase a ST - we do get to a few games during the season though, sitting in the West Upper - would be all over this if things were different!A few years time when my kids are older, will be back, week in week out!Conscious I’ve added nothing to the debate but just wanted to share 😂6

Exactly how it should be, not 4 zones and then 3 prices depending on the opposition.Henry Irving said:Sorting a donation from a lifer yesterday and came across this 2000/01 flyer.

We sit to the left of the DB as you look at the pitch - immediately adjacent to the dwarf concrete wall that separates the DB and level with the front of the box.oohaahmortimer said:The 1905 lounge had about 220 for Chelsea match and nearer 100 for the Blackburn game the week before.
Norm prolly 120-150
i sit just to the right of the directors box as you look at the pitch and it’s always empty around there but you’re covered if it rains.
the Vista lounge hasn’t sold many , their seats are upper west I believe .
The uptake in the lounge isn’t great , I just don’t believe the demand is there.
Where are the people’s seats that are being moved from?
I don’t understand it, the seats where we are are always empty and you won’t get wet if it rains , they don’t need to move any one cos where I sit these are always empty and a brilliant view and for the Chelsea match were mainly filled up with punters NOT from the lounge .
I could sit in the directors box on a padded seat but choose not to cos the views is as good on the other side of the fence and I’d rather be on the outside effing and jeffing and c**ting everyone off rather than pretending to be happy mixing with the hob nobs .
I genuinely can not understand this movement of loyal fans , there are plenty of premium empty seats where I sit , obviously I’m glad there’s less people near me but being realistic these are seats that are premium and easily good enough for whatever lounge bollox is needed .1 -

Clearly that club is owned by someone that doesn't understand business, and a long term set of board directors who don't get it. Cheaper season ticket prices will fill the ground with people that will buy more beer to make up the revenue and profit shortfall...fenaddick said:

The Red Robin said:Stoke have frozen their prices. Again.Yes, for the umpteenth year, plus free coach travel to all away games. They own their ground and a state of the art training ground, Cat 1 Academy, and zero debt. Yet there is still a sizeable rump of fans who want Coates out.All football fans are deluded about their club to a degree, but Stokies take it to a whole new level.10

They had a change a couple of years ago which should have improved things ;-)SporadicAddick said:

I'm a little confused about this. Are you commenting on the new renewal ST prices, or are you one of those where the club wants you to move your chosen seat.Sage said:
West Lower right at the very back row of B block. It’s perfect for us as is right now as I said we have a pillar to our left and no one behind us with the glass windows of 1905. Means we can control our son in terms of not wanting to climb behind or elsewhere and the players families sit next to us where most have young children too, so always very friendly and engaging and he loves interacting with other kids as well as now really into the football too. There isn’t really another place in the stadium that has these things. The family stand of course we’d get my son’s ticket free, but saving £70 isn’t going to make the difference for us and not for what we need in a game to make it worthwhile.Covered End said:
Where do you sit Sage and isn’t there a cheaper block a little further away?Sage said:For me I said it might be the first year I can’t afford to renew, and now it’s out, I stand by that. For my seat alone is a 19% increase on the price I paid for this season. My salary has not gone up 19% and I provide a better service than the club do for my seat. So add my wife and son in to that, it’s around £1200. Might not seem bad to some, but I don’t have that kind of money to drop on season tickets now, and when you have a 2 year old by the new season starts (he’s been going since he was 4 weeks old, we’ve shown it’s possible) - he needs his own seat and the location of our seats currently allow us to feel secure with him (no one behind us, a pillar blocking one part of the row, familiar faces that also engage with him etc.) we don’t want to move to a totally new part of the ground with the extra stress it will inevitably bring/cause.
The whole no discount and new membership scheme with Valley Gold etc is just a money grab now. The club slipped up before on a matchday announcement and said some of your money for Valley Gold goes towards the academy with the rest into the club. I don’t know if that’s how it’s been for a while but it wasn’t what was sold as Valley Gold when I joined. My idea was that Valley Gold goes towards the academy in whatever way that may be, otherwise why advertise it with photos of academy players if a % of it goes into paying Rodwell’s salary for example? To bring it all in house makes sure the club are saying we want this revenue and we want to maximise it as much as possible by introducing a new membership scheme that you will no doubt have to pay for.
Clubs with membership schemes only work when there is a real demand for tickets. All the while you can walk up on a match day and purchase a ticket for the game, without any problem, these memberships schemes wont work and will in fact work as a way of frustrating fans. And we give away how many free tickets every single week through comps? Work on getting more people through the door on a regular basis at an affordable price and then think about new memberships.
I can see them doing something like £10 for Valley Gold as is now, then if you want the benefits that come with it or a discounted price on your season ticket or whatever it might be, the new rate is say £25 but they’d sell it as you get all of these things included. Yet most you won’t want and now you’re having to pay extra for it, so you’re not saving anything.
Ultimately, of course I want the club to be successful but I also want to be able to go to games with my family as I have been able to, and the prices either don’t match the product or don’t allow for me to do that right now. So of course I am going to be unhappy about it.
What about the Family Stand?
It’ll be a real shame if you can’t find an alternative.
Block B is zone 2 prices which are the same as in the AC stand. I'm over 65 and my ST has gone down from last years phase 1 price of £490 to this years £435, I recon I'm now going to be paying roughly the price I renewed at 2 years ago. I presume that you'r younger than 65 so your adult renewal price is £545, has this renewal price not gone down too ?
Earlier you said that your renewal price has gone up by 19%, well if that's right your last years price would have been £458 (458 x 119% = 545 ) . That would have been cheaper than the over 65 price !
The family stand was suggested to you (and I understand you not wanting to move there if one reason is because the view isn't as good) but the adult renewal price is £355, nearly £200 cheaper than a zone 2 adult price so your saving would be a lot more than the £70 under 12 price.0 -

I've really enjoyed this season and watching the games back on YouTube or Sky.
I may be an anomaly but I'm more dissapointed in seeing lots of red seats than I am of our style of football. It looks sad in pictures and videos. Can't be a good commercial look?4 -
I accept that my west stand lower seat is a good one and I fully accept that I should pay top price for it.However I gave up hospitality ba few years ago because, quite honestly, it wasn’t worth the money and getting to the ground early.bobmunro said:Sword65pf said:

Why should people be offered a discount for moving a seat, probably not very far away, if the seat isn’t for sale you can’t sit there.JohnnyH2 said:The moving of seats issue is always sensitive and needs to be handled with great care. It just feels like a lot of times to me that the current SMT does not have a handle of what long term supporters want (other than results which they have achieved).
The dug out issue has been so obvious for ages it needed sorting and this SMT are dealing with it.
The corporate changes are far more complicated. The club made it sound when this was announced last week that it was due to issues with current corporate access is causing issues. So if its as simple as that just do swaps with those in corporates against those like Bob Munro, not a perfect solution bit handled right it could be a smooth process.
Instead it seems like they are kicking out current season ticket holders, offering them nothing in return like a discount, or different options in the ground and all of this should have been done well in advance of any season ticket announcement.
I reckon those being booted out is for your foreign day trippers, watch our empty those sections will be for midweek games or the majority of games if we are in League OneI was informed the day before season ticket renewal was launched with a standard email basically saying you can't renew your season ticket seats and come along to The Valley on the 18 March so we can help you choose a new one. I can do that myself.I raised the option of waiting until after the season ticket renewal deadline passes to see if better seats become available - yes I can do that but presumably (in the absence of anything to the contrary) no mention of retaining Early Bird discount. I can also keep my seats if I upgrade to hospitality. AT NO POINT HAVE I EXPECTED A DISCOUNT.Although pissed off I accept the club are able to do what they want in terms of what they sell and to whom - I know, despite being reminded by idiots, that it was not MY seat. It's the way they have gone about it that has seriously irked me - no organisation should treat their customers in that way irrespective of how long standing those customers may be. If the club had treated me (and the other fans affected) as something other than a commodity I would have almost certainly renewed, as I have for years since moving north despite a minimum three hours each way journey.
I will pay a premium for my ST but I don’t really want low grade hospitality1 -

Thank you, there has been a lot of information all in one go so I can’t say I’ve really understood all the zones and that. As I am in B block, does that mean they’re charging zone 3 prices for renewal but for 2027/28 they’ll be charging zone 2 prices for it?
To my mind it is now clear.
If so, it will save £110 in total, it helps, but let’s see first.1 -
I’ve already stated my reasons why where I currently sit works the best for me and my family to attend on a match day, the family stand is convenient for price but not for practicality, which is more important if attending is not going to work well or anywhere near as smoothly. Going to football has not been challenging for the last 2 seasons because of where I sit and the surrounding environment and people who help make it go so well. The family section of the ground does not provide the same for our needs.CombeMartin said:

Yes, you are over 65 which means it’s less than an adult. The AC stand has always had a totally new zone approach change to it.
The renewal price advertised is 19% more expensive for my season ticket than the price I paid for this season. This is until pointed out to me that the club charging zone 3 prices for it but as of 2027/28 they’ll be charging zone 2, despite the seat always being classed as a zone 2 seat.

So Sage would have to pay £1,160 up from £990, an extra £170 if the club hasn't helped (see below).
The best options would have been, but he has ruled out are -
Shift one block to Block A & pay £1,050 an extra £60 or
Family Stand for £710 and save a whopping £280 on this season.
HOWEVER there are new zone introductions in the west stand.
SUPPORTERS IN THE NEWLY CREATED WEST STAND ZONE CAN RENEW AT ZONE 3 PRICING FOR 26/27 BEFORE MOVING TO ZONE 2 PRICING IN 27/28.
So Sage can stay where he is and renew for £490 + £490 + £70 = £1,050 up 6% & £60 on last season.

Maybe the club should look at the gate they had in the Birmingham game, 18,584. Given the away end was at least 2,500 then that means 16,000 in the home areas at 3pm on a Saturday. This could be ,because this was a £35 ahead adult ticket game.10

It was deemed a higher risk match so had to be on restricted sale for home fans ie only those with a database history could purchase. It was a low gate, the lowest Saturday gate of the season but still 18.5k when we're not doing well. I don't think that is a terrible number but I do think the club needs to be careful to not assume that ever higher match prices won't have an impact on match sales.6 -
