If we'd beaten Wrexham like the performance deserved, we'd currently be 4 points off play offs...
And if we'd beaten Leicester and Millwall at home like we probably deserved to we'd be in them.

But we've had some fortunate results too (e.g. Sheff Utd home, WBA away) so it shows these things do even themselves out over the course of the season.

With a bit more quality up top, a bit more squad depth and a bit more luck with injuries we have a very good chance next year.

Excellent planning and execution by Nathan Jones. Brilliant strategy to bring just about everybody in and around the box at crucial times to wear out the opposition then attack on the break.

Charlie Kelman should have buried the brilliant pass across the box from the right by Connor Coady who later went on to score from an excellent long throw.

The starting line ups and the substitutions were spot on and very timely tactical decisions.

To bring on Lloyd Jones, Amari Bell and Kane Ramsey were very timely indeed especially when we were under immense pressure in the closing minutes.

Our players remained calm and focused right up until the final whistle.

Although both sides gave away the ball too many times, we were very solid in defence and Will Mannion made a couple of excellent saves to keep us in the game till the final whistle.

CAFC away travelling fans always give their 100% support.

    Full marks all round.

It was Harry Clarke with the cross though. Great ball from Carey for him to run onto too.

Yes Ali, definitely Clarke with the cross and thanks for mentioning Carey did the great ball out to Harry on a rare accurate counter attack.

Conor Coady never crossed the half way line unless there was a set pieces corner, free kick or long throw 👏🏻

Smash n grab by the riverside .. best long throw of the season from Arry (Hurricane) Clarke .. long and flat and a flick in from the notorious goal hanger (not) C Coady .. our other 'C' men ran the Boro midfield to frustration, Coventry, Chambers and Carey .. a great night for the 5 Cs along with the rest of the team .. unexpectedly shrewd team selection and use of the substitutes from Nathan & Co ..  long long long may it continue

Except the team in red didn’t get the result.

Couldn’t watch this one but never in my wildest did I think we’d get three points. Fantastic result given the changes made by Jones. If there is a downside it’s that we’ve possibly promoted Millwall.
When I saw it was 0-0 at half-time, I was looking forward to the full-time score with something approaching optimism, if only for a draw.

Still glowing after that win. Fantastic battling performance and shows a real team spirit.
Just to add I don't give a stuff if we possibly helped Millwall go up. That's 'Borough's problem. Ours is to stay up and build again. And we are near enough to touch that goal now. Nothing else matters!
Yup. If they go up, I’ll hate it, but our only aim this season is not to get back to that division one mess.

Of course - if we won all our games we’d win the league etc.

It’s just a bit crazy to think that particular game was less than 2 weeks ago and potentially a playoff 6 pointer and we never even realised it!

  • I know Docherty has his limitations and we need a couple of better ball playing midfield additions in the summer. However, last night he showed how he can still be a valuable member of the squad next season.
    Absolutely agree with this.
Looking forwards, if we stay up, we do need at least one decent ball playing midfielder, BUT we certainly don't want to throw away the superb defensive midfield integrity that Doc and Cov give to us.
Therein lies next season's conundrum for NJ to work out.......

I thought all of our players were good, no complaints to any. NJ you did it again with your starting 11, most, like me, thought he has given up on this game and saved players for Oxford, WRONG.
    Brilliant performance

I was quite relaxed until the 87th minute. That was the moment that I finally accepted that we might actually get something out of the game, then I was in a right two-and-eight for the next ten minutes.

Boro's passing is amazing - 90% success at that pace, most of it within 20 yards of our goal line and with 11 Addicks between them and the goal, and yet...

The definition of determination in defence and a bit of poor decison making from their attack meant that the only clear cut chance of the match was Kelman's - our goal was opportunism at its finest.

Boro will finish above the scum.

Being Charlton, won't be any surprise if we cock it up with our strongest XI starting on Saturday, but last night's result means even that won't really matter.

    The Reds are Staying Up!

Gough to Coady:  "why are you, me and Macca the main CB'S against these Red attacks" ?  "why us"

Conor's reply: "because we are here lad. No one else. Just us"
"A prayer as good as a two footed tackle on a night like this.

When’s the trophy  presentation to boro for the most touches in oppositions box happening 🤔

Special word for Macca. He lost his confidence a bit mid season, which really affected him as he doesn't have pace to get him out of tricky situations.

But I thought last night barring a few wobbles he was excellent. He gets his head on everything and when confident and in his flow can be relied on as a good back up to our very good starting back 3
Was thinking the same, having him around next season as back up.
He doesn't seem the sort to kick up a fuss when not playing and steps up when required.
    Well played Macca. 👏

Great win and hope it gives boro a kick up the arse to push on and keep Millwall out the automatics - they’ll bottle the play offs as they normally do - was thinking how bad the table would look if we’d not beaten brum and boro - Oxford and pompey upping their games has really thrown things wide open -A point Saturday will do us - never get anything at that shit 3 sided out of town half cinema complex thing they have. COYR - no reason why we don’t challenge up the other end next season - championship nowhere near as tough as it used to be - a few good additions in Jan and our, Pompey and oxfords form has been transformed - that doesn’t happen in a division of superior quality

Just watched highlights. Great performance and reward for the fans - long trip to Middlesbrough. Dont agree with Chambers booking. He went for the ball and got the ball before the Boro player. Not even a foul let alone booking.

    Absolutely...
I can't believe it took till now to give credit to someone given SO much stick , and especially after  a yellow card was an integral part of that performance 👏. This post deserves more than a like 👍
