They were on mainstream telly back when it was perfectly acceptable to call people pakis and coons. You want to go back to those days? Of course you bloody don't, so stop with the false equivalencies 🙄

This conversation makes absolutely no sense.

'You can't say anything these days'
Unequivocal proof that this is not, in fact, true
'But these comedians are not household names'
They're not household names in YOUR household, but they sell out 10,000 seat arenas
'But they're not on mainstream telly'
Offensive comedians were only on mainstream telly because it was far more acceptable to be racist thirty years ago

You're literally looking for things to be offended by. Which is ironic, really, considering the subject... 😏

In early 2026, comedian Rosie Jones publicly criticized fellow comedians Ricky Gervais and Jimmy Carr for making jokes that target the transgender community and other marginalized groups, urging them to stop.
Speaking with Attitude magazine regarding her show Out of Order, Jones directly addressed Gervais and Carr, stating, "With respect, shut the fuck up".
Jones contended that certain male comedians frequently target marginalized groups for "cheap" laughs and urged them to stop. She proposed a framework for responsible comedy, encouraging performers to consider their motivations and whether they are "punching down".

So have both of those comedians stopped being permitted to perform as a result? Think carefully about your answer.

Good lord what are you on about ?

I quoted Gervais as a current example and the others as historic to your specific question about when have offensive comedians  been done by household names.

If you don’t like the answer don’t ask the question.

I’m not remotely offended to the comedy by the way to your last point and never suggested I was.

You have a different definition to household names - so be it.

    No of course they haven't.
But I've already given you 2 examples off the top of my head, where -
    a) People in the audience tried to stop the act and
    b) Where a fellow comedian told them to "shut the fuck up".

I'll give you a third and fourth.

I've been to work in progress shows of Ricky Gervais and Micky Flanagan in the last year and both have said are we allowed to say this anymore or will I get cancelled?

I'll leave it there as I'm not spoiling for a fight.
    Goodnight.

Any pointers people can give on The Man in the High Castle, been on my to watch list for a few years. What's always stopped me is the premise of the Nazis winning WW2, so me thinking i'll be wound up by most episodes! But I love anything with a dystopian touch or link to alternate universes. So simply put, is it any good?!
It’s in my top five TV shows of all times, series 2 and 3 perhaps the best. Series 4 is fine and they wrap the whole thing up pretty well. The main Nazi and the main Japanese characters are two of the best “baddies” of all time, both do terrible things but are ultimately conflicted. Well worth a go!

I started the man in the high castle and think I stopped because I watched the last episode of season 1 by accident somehow and that spoilt the season. I'll give it another go

I've been watching Marshalls which is a Yellowstone follow on/spin off. Its just fun, the acting is abominable and the dialogue worse but it is still very entertaining.

Anyone watching "Gone" on ITV, last episode tonight 9pm, intriguing story line whodunnit, no doubt people watch on demand and know who the killer is, but I prefer the wait and see bit...🤔

Looking forward to tonight's conclusion, still can't decide the killer, but some very strong characters and acting performances.

David Morrissey was excellent in this.

I thought it started well but the conclusion was extremely disappointing as a lot of these ITV & Channel 5 drama's tend to be.

Saturday night live I've not seen yet, I'm glad some relatively unknown comedians are being given tv time and from what I've heard, have been allowed to try things, have a swing and see if they hit a few home runs

Offense in comedy, like everything is subjective. I watch a fair bit of live comedy and the idea of people being cancelled for what they say drives me insane. It isn't without merit though. Venue staff got Jerry Sadowitz' show pulled at the Edinburgh festival not long ago and that pisses me off. That isn't their place to do something like that. Even if someone reanimated Bernard Manning I bet he would sell out every show he did however I'd accept anyone saying they don't like him or they personally find him and what he says offensive, the beauty is, they don't have to watch/listen to him or buy a ticket, and he definitely won't be let back on the tv

Stolen Girl was better, not least because Holliday Grainger was in it.

The Capture has gone a bit off the rails imo. Lost its edginess.

Watching season 2 of Last One Laughing UK
Its enjoyable but missing something compared to the first. Maybe due to how its edited or bits of it feel a bit scripted/pre prepared. Just not quite as funny as the first season
