Robinson is caught by Muyeye in the covers off Dudgeon
118-7 and 35-5 this morning3 -
Presumably if Stuurman is injured then Jas Singh can replace him. Unfortunately it has to be "like for like" because, otherwise, we could have brought in Dawkins. It might, actually, be worth, bringing in Jas anyway because he is a better batter anyway.2

Stuurman has first class 50s. I wonder what the cut off for being called an all rounder isAddick Addict said:Presumably if Stuurman is injured then Jas Singh can replace him. I don't think we'd get away with calling Stuurman an "all rounder". He might have a couple of 50s to his name from 114 innings in SA State cricket but the fact that Milnes is batting two positions above him makes it difficult to argue that he is one. He might also be actually injured and unable to run in which case he won't be allowed a runner.wmcf123 said:

Jas has never really been given an opportunity to show what he can do with the bat but he did bat for 86 balls in two innings against Hampshire last season in helping us to save the draw. As a junior he did open the batting with Seb in an ECB club final for Bexley but his bowling then took over.0 -
Stewart bowls Aldridge
164-8 and a lead of 3022 -
It does feel like a minefield. Start the game with an excellent bowler, who's a bit of a rabbit with the bat. If you're then batting last, make sure he limps off so that you can replace him with a lesser bowler who can bat batter.2

Exactly . What is you don’t have a like for like in your squad ?killerandflash said:It does feel like a minefield. Start the game with an excellent bowler, who's a bit of a rabbit with the bat. In Kentish terms "batting better" means having an innings lasting into double-digit deliveries instead of a first- or second-baller.killerandflash said:It does feel like a minefield. Muyeye has come on to bowl in order to get out over rate up and reduce the number we will have to face too albeit by only one or two overs.0

Evison bowls Raine

Min 66 overs remaining in the day, less two for change of innings.
That's about 35 more than Durham need. ☹️0 -
218-9 declared and a lead of 356
There are about 66 overs left in the day1 -
I'm not sure whether we will now lose the two overs? Isn't it a question as to whether lunch coincides with the declaration in which case I don't think there will be a deduction.Briston_Addick said:Min 66 overs remaining in the day, less two for change of innings.

Then a team won't be allowed to replace the injured player. Which is why I said that I thought we would have to take as many as 15 players to some games. Dawkins is the replacement batter/keeper and Jas the seamer with Cohen being put on standby as a second replacement quick. Ekansh is at Uni at Durham so would be a genuine replacement for Evison.wmcf123 said:

It's asking for a rugby bloodgate type scandal...0

Not sure the ECB will bin it as it means that they can protect someone like Potts from having to carry on playing with a niggle and it favours the very counties that they want to promote i.e. the ones with the money and the bigger squads.wmcf123 said:

I give up. Crawley out LBW for the fourth time in five innings this season. This time to Potts for the second time in the match. Out for 20 (36)
I agree about the comments but one suspects that many of those are driven by the perception that he has been given special treatment given his father being best friends with Key.FremlinsFellow said:A pretty tough day after winning the toss.I would not be surprised if Zak Crawley is unsure what to do as there appears to be a lot of (non-Kent) cricket fans almost wishing him to fail to prove to themselves he shouldn’t have been selected for the Ashes in the first place. He is a young bloke trying his best in a difficult sport and some of the comments I have read, on the BBC in particular, don’t reflect well on the cricket community
The issue, from a professional perspective, is that he has the same technical flaws, he has always had and does not want/seem capable of eradicating those. It becomes a question of how long he will survive and how many runs he can score before he is dismissed.
A lot of batters cover all three stumps because they don't want to be playing at good length balls outside their eyeline. The problem for him is that his head ends up outside off stump to straight balls so his eyes aren't in line with the ball when he plays it. Three times out LBW in his four innings this season isn't a coincidence. The stats don't lie either and the ability to play a glorious cover drive should not usurp those.
Last two seasons in the CC:
541 runs in 18 innings at an average of 31.82. This includes one innings of 238 against Somerset, on what was a road, in May 2024 in a drawn game (Somerset 554, Kent 178 & 409-5). So he has averaged just 18.94 in his other 17 innings.
Last two years in Test cricket:
975 runs in 35 innings at an average of 27.86
Anyone other than someone who is centrally contracted would be under severe pressure for their place in the current Kent side especially with a youngster such as Dawkins (who is almost a decade younger than Crawley) waiting in the wings. If things don't improve then at least being in the England set up will afford him the opportunity/excuse to go away and really nail his technique. Once and for all.

Looks like I might be able to cross off one of the things to follow come 3.007

I agree that taking a middle and off guard is counterproductive given the number of lbws that Kent batsmen are dismissed with.0
-
The head is a long way outside the off stump and he is trying to hit a ball, that his eyes aren't in line with, through midwicket
