158-3
27 overs to go. 199 runs, for those of us that believe in miracles, required at 7.37 runs per over3 -
DBD caught at slip off Potts for 37 (78)
165-4 with 25.3 overs to go0 -
Evison LBW for a six ball duck
166-50 -
189-5
Final 20 overs to come0 -
About time that the Durham captain, Lees, offered to shake DBD's hand and called it a draw. Like there's no way that we're going to lose this now. Is there?6

9 1/2 an over is all we need. 😁3

Kent 2s started a three-day friendly game against their Essex counterparts yesterday. They bowled Essex out for 223 and are currently 104-1 in reply.
The really positive aspect of this is that the 2s actually, unlike previous recent years when it has been filled by academy players and triallists, looks like a proper 2nd XI. In fact, it's not too far divorced from the first team we were forced to play at times last season - Dawkins, Jaydn, Parkinson, Ekansh, Finch, Cohen, Flintoff and Curtiss were all in the side that played in the final game of last season against Derbyshire with only Compton, Evison and Stewart of that XI in the first team that turned out against Durham this week.
In addition to those eight and in the 13 we are playing are Quinn and Klaassen are both playing along with Ollie Morgan, a former Kent age group player and two triallists namely Chinmay Mullapudi, a 22 year-old left arm quick and former Sussex spinning all-rounder, Bertie Foreman.
Of the current 1st XI red ball squad, only Jas Singh, 12th man up at Durham, won't have actually had some game time this week and I wouldn't be totally surprised if at some point he doesn't appear in the 2s game.4 -

Foreman is an interesting one. Definitely something there if he can earn a deal , was surprised he was released in the first place given there's no proper off spin cover for Carson now.Addick Addict said:Kent 2s started a three-day friendly game against their Essex counterparts yesterday. Bertie Foreman sounds like a prewar player

Ton up for Ekansh2

It's a long time since we've had a top three of contracted players in the 2s who are all aged 20 or younger.1

Foreman was instrumental in Worcs letting their old rivals Warwickshire successfully chase 400 last season. He will need to improve significantly to have any future in the pro gameMarcusH26 said:

We have to somehow get Dawkins and Singh into the team, both have tremendous talent who deserve to be playing regularly.
Evison if he fails this game might be replaced by Singh, Dawkins is the more tricky one for me to get into the team0 -
They'll give those under pressure a chance to prove themselves this season which is probably fair enough. As I said last season, though, giving those three youngsters exposure at first team level, at that time and however unpalatable finishing where we did was, has meant that they are, hopefully, capable of now making that step up.000__Jaaaaay__000 said:We have to someone get Dawkins and Singh into the team, both have tremendous talent who deserve to be playing regularly.

The ones who might be under the most pressure for their place are DBD and Crawley but it's not the easiest thing in the world dropping the Club captain let alone a centrally contracted player because the next thing that could happen, I suppose, is that England send him to another county for playing time. The ECB must insist, one would have thought, that there is some sort of protection inserted in any contract a player signs with a county.
As I say, we're probably a few games from that happening and all the time we aren't losing the more time they are likely to be given.0 -

I'd previously missed the news that the St Lawrence Ground is back to being called its "proper" name, rather than the Spitfire Ground.
According to the story this "will enable Kent Cricket to attract new brands and expand its growing commercial portfolio", presumably the ground being named after a beer stopped certain other sponsors getting involved.

Happy birthday Alan Knott. 80 today10

Evison has been a good performer for years ; I’d be shocked if he’s dropped after one poor game. I do agree though that we’ve got 3 strong talents in Dawkins, Denly and E Singh0
-
Kent 2s beat Essex 2s by 10 wickets. That is something that we haven't achieved too many times in recent seasons and bodes well especially as we utlised in the order of 10 players under 21 in the 15 to have taken the field.6

Team news for the game against Northampton starting tomorrow. Stewart is unavailable due to personal reasons and will probably be replaced by Cohen or Jas. Ekash has swapped places with Dawkins as they are doing a "studies/playing" job share at the moment whilst both are at Uni and Jaydn has been added to the squad too.

Good to see Stuurman in the squad, was a bit worried when he went off in the last game1

Sadly he wasn't fit after all. Jas and Jaydn in for Stuurman and Stewart.moutuakilla said:Good to see Stuurman in the squad, was a bit worried when he went off in the last game

Do we know how concerning is his injury ?0 -
They clearly wanted a batter at 8 to replace Stewart and It must have been a difficult choice which of Jaydn and Ekansh to bring in but presumably the decision was based on the possibility of needing a spinner. That said, out of 154 overs bowled by the 2s in their match against Essex that finished yesterday, Jaydn delivered just 12 balls. Not exactly the prep for someone you want to throw the ball to in a CC match. By comparison, Parkinson bowled 42 overs with Ekansh bowling 8 overs in the first innings.0

Life wouldn't be the same if Kent didn't have some issues with their streaming. Today's issue is no sound.0
