Good to see Stuurman in the squad, was a bit worried when he went off in the last game
Sadly he wasn't fit after all. Jas and Jaydn in for Stuurman and Stewart.

Northants have won the toss and elected to bat.
    Oh no !

Do we know how concerning is his injury ?
I've no information on that but I would like to think that the fact he was in the squad suggests he failed a fitness test rather than something that was definitely going to rule him out.

They clearly wanted a batter at 8 to replace Stewart and It must have been a difficult choice which of Jaydn and Ekansh to bring in but presumably the decision was based on the possibility of needing a spinner. That said, out of 154 overs bowled by the 2s in their match against Essex that finished yesterday, Jaydn delivered just 12 balls. Not exactly the prep for someone you want to throw the ball to in a CC match. By comparison, Parkinson bowled 42 overs with Ekansh bowling 8 overs in the first innings.
Cant really see why Milnes can’t bat 8 .

Milnes can hold a bat but he definitely lengthens the tail batting there. Although Jas would be a straight swap for Stuurman, effectively Cohen (highest FC score 30) would be coming in for Stewart who has three FC tons to his name and a top score of 184.

Northants off to a bit of a flyer at 58-0 (12)
  • To be fair Kent have got much better at communication and have now updated that after a fitness test yesterday, the Club's Medical Team have advised that Glenton Stuurman will be rested for this match after leaving the field with a tight quad last time out at Durham.

    Hopefully, it isn’t too serious.

True but we have a good top 7 and Denly and Evison are not front line bowlers and J Singh hasn’t played for a year .  I would have played Cohen to have 4 seamers .

I see that but the issue is that our top 7 haven't performed in years and have been frequently rescued by Stewart. 442-15 in the first game of which Northeast and Muyeye got half of them means that the other five contributed next to nothing in both innings. Cohen is also not guaranteed to take wickets (2-286 last season) and really needs to be the alternative to Jas and probably not the addition until he is consistently taking wickets in the 2s.

Motion to create 'Division 3', a twice-yearly fixture between Kent and Worcestershire. No promotion
I'll say it again. Except Gloucestershire can join to make it a round robin

Not surprised looking at that Glocs bowling attack.

We won't know how well 'til we get to bat. There's no excuse, however, for us not putting up a decent total. This was mentioned in commentary and might be a reason for a few of the big scores today:

Under the new sanctions, which were confirmed by the ECB, home sides whose pitch is deemed 'below average' will score zero points from the game, including deductions of all bonus points.

By contrast, at Chelmsford, Essex were 149 all out and Somerset in reply are 22-3. For some extraordinary reason, Jack Leach opened the batting for Somerset and was bowled by Porter for 8.

Kohler-Cadmore is injured and Will Smeed is driving from Wales to be the injury replacement.

The really extraordinary thing about that is the fact that Smeed has played 140 white ball matches and this will be his FC debut.

Amazing for someone that "retired" from FC cricket 2 years ago at 21.

Doesn't take long for early season optimism to be brutally dismembered and scattered to the four winds, does it?

    Sigh.

  • Didn’t Adam hollioke say last week we were going to prepare pitches that forced results in under 3 days to rest bowlers? Plan seems to be working perfectly

Harrison becomes the third Northants batsman to hit a hundred.
