Didn’t Adam hollioke say last week we were going to prepare pitches that forced results in under 3 days to rest bowlers? Plan seems to be working perfectly
He meant under three days of us having to field!

Seriously, preparing a track that is capable of ending inside three days could mean it finishes in two days in which case we would lose all of the points anyway. There will be no excuses for our batters.

Genuine question as someone that's just watching the scorecard , is this another very very flat Canterbury deck like they rolled out for the Lions last summer or poor bowling attack that can't make inroads?

We are a bowler or two short but this deck isn't doing anything.

Bloody hel this match is over already. Likely to be 600 plus ist innings and we will be bowled out for less than 200 again. is there rain due that helped us out last week.

The one thing that we probably don't need is overcast conditions which is forecast along with some rain. Northants would have known that today was likely to be the best day for weather when they elected to bat.

The two bowlers to show the most control are Evison and Muyeye. They might not have picked up any wickets but 29 overs at 2.55 an over is commendable on this track.

What a shocking pitch to prepare for our first game of the season at home . Was tempted to head down there tomorrow but I’ll give it a miss, pathetic

Only just checked into the thread today as I've been concentrating on work (boo hiss!) and Friday Night Footy (which I've been watching on a bit of a delay and kept pausing for one reason or another) ... bugger me, that's a bad start.

Northants have probably already got enough on the board because if there's one thing you can count on it's a pair of Kentish collapses.

Unless the weather intervenes an innings defeat appears to be incoming :(

Bad news - they are going back out. Lunch will now be 1.30 assuming there are no further breaks before then.

Harrison goes for 153 off the bowling of Muyeye and brings Aussie overseas Nathan Mcsweeney to the crease.

Wicket to Evison, caught by Muyeye. Seb played in the same South Australia league as both McSweeney and Harry Conway who, by all accounts, as well as being a giant of a bowler, is a bit of a character too.

They might have three players with tons but we've got five. Trouble is that all of ours are with the ball.

Two wickets down. Are we going to chalk up one if those 165 all out scores that we were so good at last season chasing a big score?

That is humiliatingly bad. Yes the conditions were harder than yesterday, and yes there's scoreboard pressure, but this is totally unacceptable. Mentally so weak.

Incidentally, it must be pretty unique, an innings where only 4 players batted, and all 4 scored tons?

It is pretty unique for the top four to get tons though not too dissimilar to last season against us when Vasconcelos (100), Harrison (122), Zaib (196*) and Broad (155*) all scored tons in their only innings of 722-6

The batting is as much a concern because there really isn't that much in this deck. Of the dismissals, both Compton and Northeast were caught playing down the wrong line off balls with minimal movement, DBD was snaffled down the legside, Muyeye was caught in the gulley from one that jumped on him and Milnes was run out. Crawley might have been bowled and not LBW today but it is the same old issue - heads and hands outside the line and not playing straight in leaving a gate the size of the Mersey Tunnel to get through.

Our batters have to start putting a value on their wicket so here's hoping the dressing down that Hollioake would have, undoubtedly, given them all will change things for the rest of this match and the games to follow.
