West Brom Face Potential Points Deduction
Comments

You’re allowed to lose 39m over 3 championship seasons (some things don’t count to this like spending on academy and stadium I believe). We should be fine but talk of us spending £18m this summer like I’ve seen some say is utter bollocks as then we’d be right up against the line in year 3eastterrace6168 said:All this talk about points deduction etc...I mean, are we all sweetness and light regarding this...🤔1 -
Ridiculous that there are so many potential changes to the points per team in the last few games of the season - it could affect how teams approach a game or games. Imagine finding out you only needed to draw to stay up when you thought you needed to win, so instead of playing for a draw, you went for the win, only to lose and get relgated2

I'm surprised they haven't given every team a points deduction so as not to appear nasty and unfair to those lovely Wendies.DamoNorthStand said:eastterrace6168 said:All this talk about points deduction etc...I mean, are we all sweetness and light regarding this...🤔
EFL will probably give us a 10 point deduction as punishment for blowing so much money on utter guff this summer.0 -
We have already given ourselves a 10 point deduction in any case for signing all the utter guffDamoNorthStand said:eastterrace6168 said:All this talk about points deduction etc...I mean, are we all sweetness and light regarding this...🤔

Taken from the BBC article: "If found guilty, West Brom face a points deduction which, according to the EFL's sanctioning guidelines, would be applied this season and potentially mean they drop into the relegation zone."

I think there are two issues which are significant for West Brom. Firstly the guidlines state the points reduction should take place in the season after the breach which is this season and secondly and more importantly Leicester and Sheff Wed have had points deducted this season. The problem here is Leicester who could be disadvantaged if the reduction is not applied for this season as their deduction has been. But it is so late in the season with an almost certain appeal it has become a real mess for the EFL.9

Get them deducted and get them relegated

Technically it has to be this season doesn’t it? I can’t imagine Leicester or any club relegated and less than six points behind West Brom would be too happy otherwise.WSS said:1 -
Maybe with a proper football regulator…Diebythesword said:The possibility that all 3 relegated teams could be teams that have had points deductions is farcical and should really bring government attention. More needs to be done to make clubs live within their means. The owners clearly don’t care about points deductions.0 -
Uh oh! We could be in trouble then.killerandflash said:... wage costs can get out of control, especially with dead wood that you can't get rid of, because their wages are so high.0 -

This.CharltonManor1966 said:The argument is that if they have been overpaying players and exceeding FFP THIS SEASON, then surely they have cheated the other teams in the division this season and any points deduction or fine should be this season not next? I am sure Wendies and Leicester will both see that as fair considering their fate.
We suffered at the hands of Wendies a few years ago when their deduction was delayed to the following year.
In 19/20 we lost to Sheff Wed when Stephen Fletcher scored a last minute goal. A player they bought for millions & probably paying him a big monthly salary. Something they really couldn't afford.11 -
Reading the original article it says there are other penalties that could he applied instead of a points deduction, such as a transfer embargo.CafcWest said:Taken from the BBC article: "If found guilty, West Brom face a points deduction which, according to the EFL's sanctioning guidelines, would be applied this season and potentially mean they drop into the relegation zone."

My thoughts are that it's too late for the EFL to apply any points deductions this season so will apply them next year and/or will give them a transfer embargo of some sort.1 -
What was our loss for last season? £16m-odd wasn't it? Will need to rein that in to avoid over £39m in 3 years maybe.0

We’ll be in the premiership by then & the EFL can’t touch us.North Lower Neil said:What was our loss for last season? £16m-odd wasn't it? Will need to rein that in to avoid over £39m in 3 years maybe.16 -
Just relegate them automatically, along with Leicester and Sheff Wendy7

This is the only way clubs won’t over spend and break the rules.sam3110 said:Just relegate them automatically, along with Leicester and Sheff Wendy7 -

So were they late producing their accounts? If so this should count against them? If not - why has it taken till now for the EFL to find this out and investigate it?golfaddick said:

Am I right to assume you can as owners throw money at it as a gamble to get promotion (and suffer losses) for a couple of seasons (maybe) but the only way to mitigate that gamble if unsuccessful is to write the debt off / not show it as a loan to the owners?3

Losses in L1 don’t apply isn’t it? I thought that was the whole thing of Birmingham and Ipswich huge spending at that level to build upper champ teams outside of the spending controls?North Lower Neil said:What was our loss for last season? £16m-odd wasn't it? Wasn’t wigans deduction in 19/20 also incredibly late in the season though?MuttleyCAFC said:I think there are two issues which are significant for West Brom. Point deduction has been our best player this season by a country mile!!!33

I read on the BBC that losses of £2m over the £39m allowed incur a 3 point penalty and £4m over it's a 4 point penalty, but can be reduced by 1 point if the loses are shown to be decreasing (which in WBA's case they were).
So max deduction is likely to be 2 or 3 points.....if any.3 -

Do you think the FA/EFL whoever will give us a six point increase, out of sympathy for the cloggers we've keep ungainfully employed in the past few seasons?9

The new WBA owners have been working really hard to bring the losses down, they inherited a real mess from the previous owner.golfaddick said:I read on the BBC that losses of £2m over the £39m allowed incur a 3 point penalty and £4m over it's a 4 point penalty, but can be reduced by 1 point if the loses are shown to be decreasing (which in WBA's case they were).

2 points might make all the difference though.2 -
has anyone noticed JRC's boots look funny, kinda cloggy?soapy_jones said:Do you think the FA/EFL whoever will give us a six point increase, out of sympathy for the cloggers we've keep ungainfully employed in the past few seasons?3 -
So maybe that's why we didn't invest too much in the summer as we were a year ahead of our target to get promoted and by the time we won the play-offs it was too late?paulsturgess said:

I wonder if he can play RWB?4 -
No they don’t only rule that applies in L1/L2 the Salary Cost Management Protocol (“SCMP”) where there is a maximum wage budget on the squad relevant to your revenue. In theory you can spend however much you want on fees in that league but no sane owners would want to spend millions and millions more than they have topaulsturgess said:
