Karoy Anderson - 02/02/2026 on loan to Blackpool til the end of the season (p27)

Tricky one with Karoy. He's got everything athletically that NJ wants from a CM who'll press and hassle and run all day but doesn't really seem to have the quality on the ball. Could he become a solid Champ squad player , yes possibly if he can develop his passing but at the moment I'd be looking for a good full season L1 loan (maybe that's Blackpool again if they stay up).0

Ok , so maybe I should have singled out the players that have gone on loan in jan ,but thought people may have got my point, none of those Anderson, Apter, Tanto have excelled, Kanu, mbick are also not up to championship level, people really can be pedantic on here to try a make somebody else wrong can’t they?Gisappointed said:
What? You dont think Kanu, Mbick or Anderson are excelling in their loan clubs? Other youth as well. We know our expensive flops have failed on loan, but even non-league kids have shown promise.Sword65pf said:I think the players put out on loan in January needed to show it was an incorrect decision, they should all be excelling in the divisions they are in if they feel they deserved to be involved with us in the championship, doesn’t look like any of them have shown they’ve been hard done by being loaned out.0 -
You make a good point about Karoy being good at what he does.¡thenewbie said:
Which seems fair to say that he might very well develop and become more effective and a better player in the hassling, front foot press role but it's less likely (though not impossible) that he's going to suddenly reveal an eagle eye and laser guided precision with his passing.jose said:I know it always depends on the individual, but in general terms what is the usual age for a player to have settled into their adult physique and have created their personal game or style?
Karoy is twenty one and a half.
He's good at what he does and will hopefully get even better at it but I think it's legitimate to question if he's maybe not rounded enough to really progress in the Championship.
What follows from that is is there a club, or manager or team, that wants what Karoy does well?
Not every player can do everything, it’s a question of balance combined with square pegs in square holes.0 -
He’s never going to be a top player on the ball, but he has years to get better with it. He can easily get to a level where he’s better than let’s say Greg Docherty with the ball at his feet, and then he’d be almost there as a championship footballer. Even when he played in the championship this season he wasn’t that far off the level, it’s only when Jones started playing him holding mid that he struggled badlythenewbie said:

He will get better by playing games, and he’s never had a full season of being a first team starter. It sounds like he’s doing well at Blackpool doing that for the last few months. A full season of that next season will do him wonders and then we can re-assess where he is next summer
Jones loves him, and we gave him a long term deal. I think Jones and the club definitely believe he can make the step up from league 1 to championship over the course of that contract5 -
Anderson has excelled though? The Blackpool fans absolutely love him and want him back next seasonSword65pf said:

Has he?, enough to warrant a starting spot for us in the championship? I love him for his effort, doesn’t mean he’s good enough though, I think if he likes it in Blackpool there is a good chance they get what they want.NabySarr said:

No I’m not saying he should be in our squad next season. Just disagreeing with you saying he’s not excelled. If their fans comments are anything to go by, then he’s doing very well. Which shows he is improving and after a full season excelling at league 1 level maybe he will be ready for usSword65pf said:

I hope he does improve enough , at the moment none of us really know how it will pan out, he may have found his level to be effective.NabySarr said:

I think the problem is that the gap between league one and Championship seems to be growing. We've got plenty of players who would excel at League One but have us fighting at the wrong end of this league. Anderson I fear is one of those who would be very good in L1 but not cutting it in Championship - though I'd be delighted to be wrong.NabySarr said:

He reminds me a bit of Lapsie.
Great engine and never gives less than 100%.
But technically not good enough for the championship.
Will he improve enough over the next season or 2 to make it as a championship player we shall have to wait and see.
Personally I think like Lapsie his future lies in league one or two.4 -

The problem with Anderson is that he isn't good at doing the basics on a consistent basis. Simple passing and control. If he hasn't got that nailed by the age of 21 i'm not sure he will ever improve it massively. He's in the Albie Morgan bracket for me.1

Do they? Most on their forum reckon he's got a great engine but is shit on the ball and if they're serious about promotion next season need better than himNabySarr said:

Remember we’re talking about a player here who’s playing for a bottom L1 side. If a player at that level was good enough for championship football you would need every single fans to unanimously love him0

I think it shows that he is improving.1

There was one home game last season when he absolutely ran the midfield and from memory was a deserved MOTM. Unfortunately he lost momentum immediately afterwards due to injury (I think) and never recaptured that form but it does show he has it in his locker to play at a far higher level than many on here are prepared to admit.0

Ran the midfield in League 1, in one game, right?SantaClaus said:There was one home game last season when he absolutely ran the midfield and from memory was a deserved MOTM. How does that show that he's got "bossing the championship" in his locker?
Sorry to go on about it but people are just clutching at straws, he's not good enough right now for where we are in the leagues, and he's not standing out in the division below either3 -
Literally no one is saying that? Just saying he’s having a good loan and you’re jumping to the conclusion we think he can boss the championship!sam3110 said:

If he can't boss the Championship, or at the very least show real signs that he will in the near future, realistically he needs to be moved on now. Athletic players who can run a lot but don't have much quality on the ball aren't something we need more of.
We need to be making sure the midfield next season is better than this one, not more of the same.
It would be a bit harsh on Anderson maybe but sentimentality doesn't win games.0 -
I think we need more players who are very good off the ball to break up play, win the ball back high up the pitch etc but not at the expense of then immediately losing it0
-
Sadly he probably falls into the same category as others such as Kanu, Asiimwe etc who might be Championship players one day, but probably need a few seasons of regular first team football in L1 to develop. Even then there’s no guarantee they’ll improve enough to get there.
We’re unlikely to keep players in their early 20s and keep loaning them out. I can imagine some of the older academy players will move on for small fees in the next few windows.3 -

"Having it in his locker to play at a far higher level than many are prepared to admit"
A far higher level than being a bang average league 1 midfielder, is, IMO, being able to boss the midfield in the championship.
Unless you think a "far higher level" is actually higher still, and he can play in the Premier League?!0 -
Maybe it's time for another visit to the Opticians?EastTerrace_Junior said:Apart from the Millwall game he didn’t look too out of place in the Championship, I see him as the Docherty replacement in the squad, breaking up the play and offering energy in midfield. He does get caught out on the ball, especially when he wins it in deeper areas, but he’s already more versatile than Doc and has a better passing skill set when he isn’t under pressure.2 -
By the time he is Championship ready, we should be having Play off aspirations.0

Dont want to be in League one playoffs again1

It is far too early to write the lad off. The loan was right because he was going backwards but there is a player in there and that player is a good passer too. He needs the summer, to come back into pre season and see where it goes. Same with a few of our young players.3

I always give leeway to one of our own. The way it is with me.One thing I like about Karoy beyond his footballing ability and willingness to take the pain, is he was born in Lewisham, and in an interview said his favourite fans song was ‘Valley Floyd Road’ because Charlton are ‘my club’. He has been with ‘his club’ since he was a tiny tot.9

I really like Anderson as a character and what he brings but he’s played 80 odd games in his 3 L1 seasons he’s had managed a 76% 74% and 73% pass accuracy in sides where the midfield aren’t exactly told to be creative and try playing high risk high reward passing.MuttleyCAFC said:It is far too early to write the lad off.
