It’s our recent home form that has done us.
Being undefeated in 7 away games at this level is impressive (albeit mainly draws)10 -
Attempting to quote my way out of the disapointment this evening...
The cost of mediocrity is disapointment (William Arthur Ward)
Disappointment is an opportunity for resilience, wisdom and personal growth. Embrace it as a stepping stone to success.

Dodged a bullet by not watching today.
When I saw that they had equalised and it ended 1-1 you just know the response and that Ronnie Moore will slag off TC and Barry Manilow will slag off Carey.
Certain things are mandatory. We will probably get a post from Billy mix !
Every since we went to WBA who were in a terrible run and were so timid the wheels have been coming off. We haven't evolved into a fluent Championship side and we play with fear.
Nathan has to own these performances.
Despite not watching today the way we fell away against Preston after 20 minutes was systematic in our lack of football and control. Once the opposition start passing and moving against us we are looking devoid of ideas other than defending deep and inviting pressure.
We are playing with a collective fatigue after being out of possession for long periods of this season.
Oxford could still win a couple of games and are we going to get another point from Ipswich, Hull and Swansea ?
The negativity is overwhelming but we just seem so limited in our attacking moves.

Negative football fed up with the same every week11

Only highlight of the day was getting to the ground pretty early and waiting with my six-year old son to watch the players arrive. He idolises Matty Godden and had his red Charlton shirt on with Godden on the back. He called over to Godden who came over, and looked genuinely delighted to see a kid with his name on a shirt. He gave my lad a big hug and high-five and made his day.47

We used to slag Sheff weds fans off for feeling entitled to win back in the day... how the turns are tabled.5

Have I missed something?
Many on here praised the transfer ‘ investments’ last summer and all the supposed off field changes and enhancements. Stood firm the season ticket price changes were correct etc.
Meanwhile on the pitch….
Reality for me is the January loans should see us just about scrape over the line. But we finish season with no credit at all and presumably fewer season ticket sakes on the horizon than this year.If Tottenham or West Ham don’t come down there isn’t much to look forward to.2 -
Mate who has been a Wednesday season ticket holder for over 40 years, says without a doubt, we are the worst team he's seen play at Hillsborough this season (other than Wednesday). He's quite fair in his general assessment of football teams.
Can't say anyone that watches Charlton could disagree!14 -
Wonder which clubs might be heading for a points deductions next season. If it's three that's us sorted then.12

I was not talking about "competing" (for promotion), just "a realistic chance of staying up". And if you think we need more than 12 million just for that (and you could well be right), then it makes my point for me even more strongly.AberystwythAddick said:

Why?NorthStandMillz said:Awful. If we stay up we have to give Jones another season ...
Need to spend 10-12 million quid to have a realistic chance of staying up next season, and then far from guaranteed.
After our pathetic summer buys last year, would the owners trust Jones with their money? I would not.
I think if we buy, say, four 3 million quid players, and they are the right players for the right positions (not Kelmans or Apters), we should reckon that one of them would flop, through form or fitness. 3 out of 4 would be a success. Plus we have Josh Edwards to come back, and half-a-dozen youngsters nearly there. If one or two of those could make the step up next season that would help. So it would be possible.
But less possible with Nathan Jones, and, like I say, the owners probably would not trust him to spend any significant sums. The only factor in his favour is that he must have run out of clapped-out cronies to sign by now.

What was the stone wall penalty? If it's the one they were given a free kick for, I'm pretty sure that was outside the box as the player who was fouled was complaining that it should have been an inch closer to the box and didn't appeal for a penalty.1968CAFC said:All the way to Sheffield to watch Shite.

Lets not count our chickens in regards to NJ. Yes the football is dire at the moment & we are limping over the line but he has ALMOST completed what we'd all of given our leg left for after Appleton. Promotion and a second season in the championship to build. Bowyer didn't do that.
This summer (if we survive) will be huge and will show our owners and NJ intentions. ESTABLISHED championship players are a must, money needs to be spent and the free agent injury prone player gambles can't happen. Second season syndrome is real and we can't be complacent17 -
Fair enough. That’s the only other incident I thought they could be referring to.fenaddick said:

Dire game and performance today, but staying up this season is a massive achievement and it looks like we’re basically there. Some of the negativity is mad, we should be really pleased with where we are

Another point closer to the goal at the start of this season which was staying up. 21st is more than good enough6 points clear with 3 games to go and 50 points on the board.
Should have been done and dusted a couple of weeks ago but we have made it harder for ourselves with our recent home form.
When it comes to the style of football it’s been dreadful to watch for the last couple of years but you don’t get any extra points for artistic impression and as we all know it’s a results business which Jones has in the bank.5 -
You can say that about our players for 90% of the games they have played.EastbourneAddick said:Our players seemed not to have any Energy were slow and were outpassed by Wednesday.
Glad of a point but if we do stay up then need to buy at least 2 strikers and change the midfield.
Earlier poster said this that replacing Godden and Dykes with Leaburn and Campbell whilst Kelman and Fevrier not involved was a mistake.
Leaburn and Campbell were just not up for it or good enough to make a difference today. Loan them to League One sides in the Summer .... if anyone will take them.0 -
If someone said we’d be 6pts clear with 3 games left to play at the start of the season then of course, everyone would’ve taken it.The Red Robin said:

its the manner in which we find ourselves here that warrants the negativity. We’ve been so poor since the Boro game. The Oxford game they looked leggy after two good wins plus a big trip up to Boro on a Wednesday night, and a point was an okay result. Since then (bar Watford), we’ve been terrible, hence I can understand the fear, anger, frustration etc19 -

A poor and frustrating performance. Unfortunately this squad of players just doesn’t have the quality to play with the ball and we’ve lost our intensity without it. The players look nervous and edgy, we are lucky the season ends in three games. We would’ve all taken this situation on paper at the start of the year. However it is undeniably frustrating given our recent results, this could’ve been a lot easier. Let’s get over the line and look to improve in the summer. I know we’re all bored of hearing it but this is the reality of where we are in the ‘journey’.1

Feel like the players have run out of steam more than anything else. Easy to forget that 7 of the starting 11 were playing L1 football, 2/4 that weren't are 30+ and 1 of the other 2 is made of glass. Hopefully we've done just about enough to be safe but we need some proper athletes next season.3

Never been in the Jones out camp and I'm definitely still not, but that is a game where I really think he needs to shoulder a lot of the blame and it was disappointing he didn't cop to any of it in the post match.
For the line up they are fragile on the counter and against speed, and we drop our only pacey player in TC. Also no JRC when we need to break a team down.
For approach, there was no effort or desire to play it on the ground today and it was embarrassing watching a Sheff Wed youth team play triangles around us and through balls when all we do is hump it long. Part of that might be down to the players feeling nervous on the ball, Jones said he'd put the pressure back on this week, but the fact that it didn't improve after the half makes it look much more like an intentional tactic. Lack of JRC, one of our only players who can pick a pass, backs that up.
That approach is so wrong in so many ways. We needed to be aggressive and try to take all the points. It's a rare occasion where we should have more footballing quality than the opposition and so don't need to be entirely negative to level the field. But more than anything, they have no depth and you're letting them off the hook of chasing the ball around. Their midfield and forwards can just stand still while their CBs head it away and mop up. We should have run rings around them until they were ragged.
Also no apparent orders to press, even after that produced one of our only decent chances in the first half.
For the subs, too late is often a criticism but I can see why he does that sometimes when he's changed something and wants to give it a chance. But nothing seemed to change at HT when it badly needed to, he had to see that and change personnel well before he did. As for the subs themselves, Sichenje made a big difference and I don't argue with TC, though he was poor today, but JRC had to come earlier to break them down and how do we leave ourselves with no Godden, Dykes, Kelman, Knibbs or (right at the end) even Carey on the pitch when we need a goal? No one we had on the pitch at the end is convincing in the opposition box.
Few other thoughts:
- love Clarke as a character but I'm not with the majority who want him signed up - only ok defensively, played a terrible ball right to them to keep the pressure on eventually resulting in their goal, doesn't get quality into the box nearly enough and is honking in front of goal, costing us multiple points already
- Mannion surely has to come back out now
- don't understand what has happened to our identity generally. Start of the season it was high energy, aggressive press, winning all the second balls and box crashing. That all disappeared with the injuries and poor run, but why hasn't it returned ever since?26 -
14 minutes from safety.... Says it all.3

That wasn't a good performance by the team, but most of them put effort in, particularly Lloyd Jones as he always does.twiggyaddick said:
The booing, 100%.The Red Robin said:What was Lloyd Jones so angry about at the end? The fans for booing or his own teammates?
I can see why he would get pissed off with the booing, it's happening far too much lately. I know that it's always happened, but it must be demoralising to put your all in, get a point which is very helpful toward staying up, and your own fans slag you off.
The booing really doesn't help create a united front. I know that we all hoped for 3 points today, but please try to avoid the booing and save it for really deserving occasions. (If you have to boo).25
