Nice to hear Nathan Jones even refer to Clarke's "few minutes of madness."For those that absolutely love him, a goal for him never came after 18 appearances.3

There's still one more chance!_uptheaddicks said:Nice to hear Nathan Jones even refer to Clarke's "few minutes of madness."For those that absolutely love him, a goal for him never came after 18 appearances.4 -
I expect his wages are quite high and he won’t be on a free. Ipswich will take up their option to ensure they get some sort of fee you’d imagine.Athletico Charlton said:Would take him on a free if wages were not silly, as back up RWB to Bree (I hope!).
Ed. His attitude is spot on in my opinion. Works incredibly hard and gees up the crowd. Surprised at some of the comments above about him moaning / being a live island footballer.0 -
I’d prefer bree tbh , we need better !1
-
Would depend for me on what fee Ipswich would want. Anything over £1.5m and I'd be looking elsewhere probably, solid enough player for any newly promoted side but I would imagine we'll be looking elsewhere (not Bree, no chance he'll be available now)0
-
Not convinced at all. Believe there has to be better out there. Fevrier has a lot more potential and I imagine is considerably cheaper.3

Have to say, I’m very surprised so many people are turning their noses up at him. I think he’s been good and more consistent than Bree was. If the price is right, I think keep him and sign competition at right wing back. Our system demands an awful lot of our wing backs - elite stamina, defensive solidity, and attacking creativity. IMO we probably need almost two starters on each side plus a bit of cover so we can rotate and cover for injuries. We saw how imbalanced and vulnerable we became when we lost both Edwards and Bell at the same time. Need to have that kind of eventuality planned for and covered off next season.9

Don't forget, Fukuda is on his way!10

He was a stand out yesterday for me in the worst way possible. Really bad errors again and again.
But he also looked good when he arrived so no idea whether to try and sign him as back up. Better football brains at the club can sort that out.0 -
Can’t wait to boo him for whatever club he is at next season , just like Bree16

Really rated him when he first joined but he’s gone off the boil in recent weeks. RB/RWB should be one of our priorities this summer. Would like to keep Fevrier but also add someone else.

His throw-ins are so good, if I was the opposition manager, I’d tell defenders to kick the ball off for a corner rather than concede a throw-in in the final third of the pitch.6

I quite like him. Maybe I’m in the minority0

FWIW my view is that Clarke is a solid enough player with errors in him.
With our weak midfield this has shown him up quite a bit and he gets caught out.
BUT in NJ's system we stand or fall by our two wingbacks.
If both Chambers and Clark are going back then we need to sign two quality players that are not readily available.
Hopefully we will have our best LWB fit again next season.
So all in all I would try to sign Clarke as if our central midfield improves in quality and pace then he will not be as vulnerable going forwards as he has been this year. He is strong and aggressive and is probably the best we can hope for next year within our budget and the midfield has to be our priority.4 -
Left sided defenders are much harder to find though, as so few people are left footed, rather than right footed. Indeed just within our academy, there are plenty of "3rd choice" right sided defenders like Gough, Laqeretabua and Z Mitchell, whereas when Edwards got injured we really struggled.Exiled_Addick said:Have to say, I’m very surprised so many people are turning their noses up at him. We might still sign Clarke, but it's not as if we have to sign him because there is nobody else out there.1 -
good attitude, aggression, physicality, fitness, ability in the air but can't carry the ball, prone to mishaps like yesterday and can't shoot - we could do worse but hope we can do better2

You’re only as good as your last game in some people’s minds.
Fevrier is the new Ronaldo at the moment as although he started as nothing special, he finished on a high.
The likes of Clarke & Dykes did the opposite. They were the best thing since sliced bread a month ago but they’re now deemed no longer good enough because they didn’t maintain that form into our last couple of games.13 -
Not at all, I’d sign him all day long.cafcsinger said:I quite like him. Maybe I’m in the minority
much better player than Bree, great crosser of a ball, athletic and his throws are a weapon. Yes he’s prone to a mistake, if he wasn’t then we’d have no chance of signing him

Sign him if we can. No doubt in my mind.
Yes, he's making mistakes, but you can attribute that to a combination of lack of sustained match fitness having been out for a while (so he'd tire a bit quicker in an extended run of games, particularly with his all-or-nothing play style); recent niggles that were picked up; and the fact that as a whole, we lack a bit of quality.
Clarke would be great if he was the baseline of player we were putting out next season, rather than someone who - looking at the current squad - HAS to start and whose energy is crucial to how we play.
If we can build with players like him - and if he gets a full, trouble-free pre-season - then that would no doubt represent good business and a hopefully upward trajectory.10 -
He's been poor the last couple of games, but was absolutely brilliant before that and would be a great signing4

Agree with all of that.PaddyP17 said:Sign him if we can. No doubt in my mind.

It's a bit concerning that some people's expectations seem to be that anything less than prime-era Cafu would be a failure. But I guess that's just the way things are.7 -
At least one of our two wing backs have to be able to go past a player if we are to progress as a team - none of Clarke, chambers or bree can do that which is the single reason I would look elsewherePaddyP17 said:Sign him if we can. No doubt in my mind.

We could do a lot worse than Bree or Clarke. But as someone pointed out, you’re only as good as your last match. Fevrier hasn’t been good enough so far, although he was excellent yesterday. For me, he’s still cover at best, but some are now starting to see him as a starter. Yes, he had a great game, but football has a short memory both positively and negatively.3

I'd like to see us sign him, if we can (financially as well as if he wants the move). His earlier form was great, the 2 or 3 awful misses maybe not his crowning moments but at least he was willing to get into those positions, which can't be said of most of our team.
I think his dip in form coincided with injuries (as ever) and us not having suitably reinforcements, due to other injuries (as ever again) so forcing him to play as soon as possible even when not really fit.1 -
Loved his reaction to the winning goal yesterday. Not been perfect, but my god we’ve had worse loan players over the years.4
-
100%. Clarke and Bree are both very good players and better than a lot of what we have, but we are a much better team when we have some pace and 1v1 ability in the team. We’ve run TC into the ground this season because he’s the only player we have that has it, though Fevrier has helped recentlyDOUCHER said:

Jones said this after the game yesterday:
“ In that position we do need it (strengthened) - more of an individual and one-v-one threat going forward, because everyone has that. That is one thing we’ve asked the recruitment team to really identify.”
so it sounds like we are looking for that type of player. Finding one that can also defend won’t be easy though0 -
Would bring him back if we can, overall a successful loan.4

I think he's decent, but my god he had a shocker yesterday1
