Wrexham have played a blinder here. Presumably we’re paying a portion of his wage, with Leicester paying another portionfenaddick said:So Leicester partly paid for Coady’s excellent performance up there which helped relegate them

Bet the % we are covering is relatively small!AberystwythAddick said:

He’s been a really good signing though, would love to keep him but I doubt we could afford to.1 -

Yeah that’s what I was thinking, the “no option” part was slightly hyperbolic given that the alternative option was simply to honour the contract they’d made of their own free will.Stu_of_Kunming said:0 -
I wonder if he could get back in the England team, always one that catches the eye before the season ends13

We’ve had a few players’ threads bumped today - thought this fella deserved a mench too.
Having read what Leicester and Wrexham fans thought of him, I was was a bit fearful of another Ben Watson/Harry Arter type outcome but NJ played a bit of a blinder by using him as defensive midfielder and, while he has been decent rather than exceptional, he’s certainly not looked a legs have gone has been like described by fans of his last two clubs.
He’s had some moments of quality that show how he made it all the way to the England squad, but what has really stood out is his character and leadership. He’s played with a commitment and care that you don’t always see from loan signings. Don’t know if we’ll see him here next season, but he’s clearly an excellent pro and played a valuable little cameo in the second half of our season. I think that deserves recognition.
To be fair, the same also goes to the other January loans/short term signings. Highlights that it’s not loans, per say, that have been the issue in the past, but it’s about getting the right loans and having a club culture that motivates them to buy-in and give their all.

He was actually everywhere yesterday including being almost clean through near the end there, where his lack of pace showed it was him!
Seems a top pro and a great influence in the dressing room. Cheers Connor.10 -
He was also talking players through the game, guiding them, repositioning them. Doesn't seem to have an ego and is happy to use his experience to coach others during the game. Not sure about him next season, but a slightly younger version would be on my shopping list.bolloxbolder said:He was actually everywhere yesterday including being almost clean through near the end there, where his lack of pace showed it was him!

A slightly younger version of an aging full England international, how many years younger as Coady was last capoed in 2022 and i dont think our shopping budget extends to Declan Rice8

Doubt at this point in his career, life, family means he’ll move down to London for a year but what an impact he’s had.
Cheers Conor.17 -
His technical ability shone through a few times recently with him playing quality balls over the top that turned defenders round or set the ball up to drop nicely in the box. We need more of that next season from someone4
-
He's done what I'd hope an experienced premier league player and international would do. Doesn't always happen though (Chris Gunter, brrrr) so fair play to him.4
-
He’s done really well for us (and, frankly, I don’t really understand why he hasn’t played more).I don’t see how we could get him on a permanent deal, but wonder if there’s a chance of a season long loan next year?1

How many times have we lost when he has started, can’t be many?3

Cheers Conor.
If there was one of our loanees I would love to sign CC would be top of my list.
He just seems a top guy, and even now, a really good pro. His influence on games absolutely stands out.
However, as you say, I'm sure his personal circumstances and long term career aspirations means there is no way he will be back next year.
So it's a huge thanks from me to you Conor. You've done so much to make sure we will be watching Championship football next year.5 -
He posted a photo on Instagram yesterday, with his wife and kids after the game.
They're not going to move down to London for a year or two, and I can't see him leaving them behind like he's done in the last few months.20 -
Thank him for all he’s done wish him well, but a 33 year old shouldn’t be the solution to take us forward5

What a player and what a personality.
His impact on the tean and club cannot be under-estimated.2 -
Once, I think (Portsmouth) out of ten starts. Says a lot.cafcforever said:How many times have we lost when he has started, can’t be many?5 -

4 wins, 5 draws and 1 defeat, I think.4

Coady and Dykes have done themselves proud - both far better players and far more committed than I was expecting - whoever’s in charge of loans at Charlton needs to be given a chance at the permanents !!!10

Offer him and Godden a player/coach role, and get them into the first team & academy set up!
at a time where we want to get Cat1, and push our already amazing academy further - these two would offer untold positives3 -
Long commute from Liverpool0

Not every player has to be a long term investment. Having the likes of Coady and Godden around for a year or two can be a huge positive influence on the younger players in the squad that are seen as longer term projects.Crispywood said:Thank him for all he’s done wish him well, but a 33 year old shouldn’t be the solution to take us forward
Also, an older pro on the way down but who still “wants it” can be a more affordable way of improving the team short term so you can finish higher up the league and, potentially, attract better younger players to replace them when they age out.
We need to shop smart and find deals to push on this summer because our budget is still going to be lower than most teams’. Coady may actually be too expensive but we shouldn’t rule out options like him just because they’re on the older side, as long as we are confident they’ll improve us and are they are affordable.
There’s a balance to be struck between investing in future potential but also taking care of the here and now.9 -
I saw somewhere that he's the 3rd highest paid player in the Championship. (Something like 28k a week)
Wherever he ends up, he's liable to have to swallow a huge pay cut...2 -
Dykes has put a shift in but this week shows we are better without him .DOUCHER said:Coady and Dykes have done themselves proud - both far better players and far more committed than I was expecting - whoever’s in charge of loans at Charlton needs to be given a chance at the permanents !!!1 -
Godden has said previously he’s got no interest in going into coaching. I think Coady will probably not want to move down south unfortunatelysammy391 said:Offer him and Godden a player/coach role, and get them into the first team & academy set up!

Unfortunately as much as I'd love to sign him , I don't think he wants to move south away from his family, someone like Preston will probably snap him up.1

I believe he's got another year on his contract at Wrexham.SteveACS said:I saw somewhere that he's the 3rd highest paid player in the Championship. (Something like 28k a week)
