Only issue with a Tanto swap deal is according to Stockport fans he’s been dreadful and they don’t actually want him back permanently.

And if we offered a swap we’re either saying Fevrier is a 1.5M player which I can’t see happening or admitting we think our value of Tanto has dropped massively and also doesn’t provide us with funds if there is someone Jones wants instead of Fevrier
Maybe see if we can get Ethan Pye as well, as hes a Left Centre-Back rated on here a bit. Bit of a Championship Manager type transfer, but we give them Olaofe, we get Fevrier / Pye, plus we offer an extra £500k / £1m for the extra that they'd probably demand for Pye

Outstanding close control with both feet and then passes to a teammate in the space that he created.
Not sure anyone else in our squad could manage that.
Deserves a start against Swansea to show what he can do again.

I have always thought Fev's looked a solid player whenever he's started. I'm sure he'd jump at the chance to come here, London born, higher division etc.

If Stockport don't want a swap deal, nobody is going to pay us 1.5M for Tanto. I was sitting directly behind Fevriers family and his agent was there too. He seemed quite happy!

I thought he beat four but now see / realise it was five. Remember TC last season beating three Huddersfield then the fourth fouled him. Both right up there as brilliant moments to witness.

Hopefully we can include Tanto in any deal.
& Ahedme. Would be a great double signing for Stockport  ;)

Fevrier is only 5 months older than TC. Seems to have a lot more confidence and composure.

He's been good, I'm just not sure he's at the level we need on the journey

I'd say we need attacking options from the bench who can also start, especially one who can play both wing backs.

He's scored and created IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP for us.

Not the raw pace of Small, but less of a one trick pony! Ball control and strength!

And didn't stand to watch...still kept running...

If a lot of fans had their way, we wouldn't have a bench.

Really good piece on Cawley's Substack with Bolton and Stockport reporters about Apter and Tanto's loan. This bit about Fevrier at the end is of interest too

We are seeing Fevrier looking to be in good form and scoring goals, including the one on Saturday to keep Charlton in the Championship. His reputation has probably increased from leaving the football club.

I think they would be ready to explore letting Fevrier go, because as well as he seems to be doing, I think there is a feeling from this end that is the kind of player he is. Fevrier will have really bright spells but then spells of frustration. In that respect, he and Tanto are very similar.

Tanto was an unused sub for Stockport last night.

What makes it even worse was that they needed a goal (they lost 2-1) and they brought on a 20 year old striker who was making his first appearance for 3 months after an injury.

he's played for us like he's been given a golden opportunity to impress and play at a higher level. He's given everything, grabbed it with both hands and he clearly can make an impression at this level. As with so many players, there will be club and a time where it clicks with them better that it will do elsewhere for no other obvious reason. Maybe that could be with us. I'd be happy for us to sign him and see how he goes next season.

Very similar to Thierry Small in that regard who was floting around various clubs prior to us. In some ways, he is back doing that for Preston also from the subs bench.  For the right team and situation, it sometimes just works.

He has done ok but we should be looking for better for starters.  If we want him as a reserve I would be fine with that given some of his atttibutes/versatility.  While I would prefer transfer spend to be focused on starters, given we currently have no healthy wingbacks,  we are also going need some depth at that position

It's recency bias, roll back three months, and most people wanted to sign Clarke, now it's one some would be disappointed in.

Your assertion regarding recency bias becomes unclear with the introduction of Clarke into the discussion, leading us into the realm of the motte and bailey fallacy.

I'd like us to sign both Clarke and Fevrier.

I don’t think this guy is going to be a long term superstar. However, I assume he is cheap and his salary is low and he’s young, probably worth a gamble / squad option unless we’re gonna really up the ante with our recruitment in the summer

Signing a player like Fevrier makes sense. Doesn't necessarily have to be him as there may be better options available, but also sometimes it's "better the Devil you know" and he's shown enough signs of there being a player in there that may make him worth the punt that he can be coached into a more consistent performer.

Either way, we've been too reliant on TC for any pace/ability to beat a man/attacking width. It's fair to say TC has been hot a cold and still has a lot of his own developing to do so we need competition for him and also players in the squad that allow us to switch it up and play with attacking width on both sides. Fevrier offers that and has the bonus of being able to play as an attack minded wing back too.

I think we need perhaps 4 "wide" players this summer. One in the Fevrier mold who can play both sides and is attack focused but can cover wing back in a pinch. Then we need three more orthodox wing backs - two on the right and one on the left (assuming Edwards comes back from injury at something like his best).

It's a key position in Jones' preferred systems and they have to do an enormous amount of running. For those reasons, we can expect injuries/tiredness, at times, so we need good options to rest/cover players but also an ability to switch between more defensively sound and more attacking options.

I think getting the wing backs right is almost as important as addressing the midfield.

And of course Fevrier could really step up. At worst he is a decent squad player which we do need to think about that as we don't have the money to bring in loads of sure fire proven players.

The fact he can play left and right wing back and higher up the pitch make him a perfect squad signing imo.

  • He's got talent; just looks too bulky. His  running technique doesn’t do him any favours but if he dropped a bit of weight and had a proper sprint coach over the off season, I think he’d be substantially better.
