Didn’t learn anything we didn’t know re the set up and this bunch of players. If we had been as open as after this tactical change for the season we would have been relegated I expect.0

Of that starting 11, Jones is the only sure-fire starter next season for me.4

Big no thanks on Dykes & Clarke next season. Both been crap for a while now7

If anyone thinks Kaminski could have got to the free kick are delusional…no keeper could have got that…21

Same old story.
Managed to muster a rare decent attack. Lost the ball and within 30 seconds it was in the back of our net.
We're safe. Happy to draw a line under it and hope performances significantly improve next seeason6 -
Hopefully Mbick comes back and will push on….i would not sign Dykes or Clarke and get rid of macca, Apter, Tanto , Berry, JRC and Leaburn. Give Godders 1 year and sign Fev.2

Interesting post match from Jones
’We have to get better individuals….on August 7 when the season starts we want the fans to go ‘wow…we have improved’

Two positives: 1) nothing really rested on the match which was just as well 2) cracking goal from Leaburn.
Otherwise a dour struggle where we were always second best.1 -

This season has aged him 20 years...Making_all_the_noise said:Lloyd Jones walking away from the applause very early again. Quick clap and beeline for changing rooms. Wonder if something is up with him or if he was just fed up with the performance again.

Good reality check after last week that a lot of these players (like Clarke) we shouldn't be bringing back3

Decent by his standard, do you want to see him in the side next season?PeaksAndValleys said:

Totally the wrong place but seems all I can do.
i have sent e mails to administrator but no reply.
i have used at least daily Charlton Life for years.
now so difficult to get into. Need to verify every time then sign in again. Even doing that often cannot log in. I use an I pad.
any ideas why.2 -
Well glad that's over and very relieved this was not the 'must not lose' match. It's a bit depressing that when we parked the bus for the first hour and looked for an ugly point, we were comfortable. Once we changed it and were more attack minded, we got handed our arses on a plate by a neat and very lively home side.
Oh well, here's hoping we see some astute purchases in the summer particularly in the midfield. Up front both Kelman and, in particular, Leaburn gave us some reasons to believe for next year and we have other bright young forwards returning home after very encouraging loans. Fact is you can have a stellar line up in the forwards but they won't do much without creative midfielders. Swansea are living proof of this with high scoring fowards being fed by fast and inventive midfielders. Our best midfielder today was probably Coady, a central defender who will be going back to Wales tonight. Keeping the faith that this summer proves fruitful.0 -

Certainly not as a starter, 50/50 on having him around the squad for back up. Does a job ok with a proper LWB in front of him and excellent availability. If we can upgrade I would, but don't think it's anywhere near top of the list.
But just wouldn't pick him out for criticism based on today, personally. Saw one guy on Twitter blaming him for the goal that deflected in off him, not sure what he's supposed to have done about that0 -
I might be wrong but didn't the build up come from his dodgy pass?PeaksAndValleys said:EugenesAxe said:

Yes and this is why we have to give NJ credit and time to transform us - if we don’t play low risk defensive football, we get opened up - big big summer needed to change thatDugdaleclass said:Well glad that's over and very relieved this was not the 'must not lose' match. Any true Charlton supporter knows that the most important result today was at Portman roadSDAddick said:Most important part of today is that we are staying up.
Second most important is the women's team.
Beyond that, watching Leabrun and Kelman buzzing around for the last 15 gives me some hope for next season. Both looked very bright, but I think both need to show they can do it consistently, especially from the start.
We went attacking in the second half and got opened up. You see how fine the margins of risk and reward are in this league. We also don't have the quality and athleticism in midfield for a diamond. That needs to change in the summer (the quality and athleticism, not a switch to a diamond which I highly doubt we'll do).
I've said it all along, but this season was hard on the old hearts. But we got it done and over the line. That's all that counts.
Up the Addicks. Come on you Reds. Happy summer everyone, looking forward to your company for the World Cup!4 -

I'm an NJ fan, but the summer transfer window, together with how things settle down next year, will be the real telling point.
However, I didn't like his comments about "who we got rid of....at the end of that L1 season", I believe referring to 23/24.
Got rid of...
Maybe choose a better phrase for players who you don't fancy/don't feel can do a job for the club, for whatever reason, and you want to move on.
In fact, instead of "who we got rid of", how about saying "who we moved on"?6 -
Overreaction from a loss. Nathan jones ball secured championship football with the third worst player budget in the league. We should have been relegated with that budget but finished 19th and never in a relegation scrap. Massive overachievement! Don’t listen to them Nathan, they’re in la la land! Got anything to moan about, then direct it at the owners not our best manager in years!AberystwythAddick said:Nathan Jones ball. Really funny when it works. Absolutely diabolical when it doesn’t.

We are Safe.
we need to invest in some decent players and a proper striker for next season.
50% of our present squad should go back to league one 👍👍👍0 -
Even without points deductions we'd have stayed up, Blackburn would have been the ones to fall.7

My boy was looked after superbly by Swansea - incredibly hospitable club - he had an afternoon to remember as Charlton mascot.
High fived the Charlton players in the tunnel before the game, walked out with Coady.
And scored his half time penalty against Cyril the Swan.

We finished above Leicester, WBA and Blackburn. If someone had told me last August that that would happen, I would have said they were talking out the top of their head.
