Long day first time visit to Swansea and my eldest. Thank goodness we got it done the week before against Hull as that would have made it a totally different day to endure!

Our traveling support was top class as it’s been all season. Said it all season like others can’t fault the effort from all of this squad just lacks enough championship experience/quality. Big job this summer trying to move players on who are on contracts (easier said than done) and recruiting better quality players.

Staying up was the main priority for this season for me.

I can't help thinking that the changes that made us more attack minded were a subtle pointer to all of us that have been frustrated with our style of play, that we were not capable of such openness.
I get the point but, Swansea goals aside, it was fun to watch.

It was a standard NJ away game until we scored. Then he was urging the players forward rather than back, and it left space. It helped me understand why we do play so negatively.

The 3rd goal felt like karma for the Keir Starmer chant.

Probably like a lot of people I was baffled by the starting 11 line up and we presented no threat until our " game changers" came on.This game presented an excellent opportunity for us to be more expansive but our leader disappointingly thought otherwise .Just why we will never know
    .
A very negative note on which to end the season.

Because when we were more expansive, we let in 3 goals in 20 minutes.

The 1st half was the expected 30% possession but I can't understand the criticism of a half when we were missing Ramsey and Bell and the score was 0-0 against a free flowing team like Swansea with the top scorer in the division?

It you don't understand by now we are not a fluid team in transition you obviously don't realise Pope Leo is Catholic. Ironically when we showed some good passing moves going forward in the 2nd half we had lost our defensive shape with Coady and Burke having left the field.

While Chambers was composed and played his best football especially 1st half, Clarke was erratic, constantly fouling and just like last week making poor mistakes. I loved Harry's passion early days at CAFC but he is a guy that is showing signs of missing the Ipswich party and where he has no future.

We need the stability of Ramsay, Jones and Bell at the back while the passing and movement of Kelman and Leaburn in their cameos gives hope they can have a partnership going forward.

I had too much sport to watch yesterday to let the joys of last week become a downer as I was expecting a 3-0 defeat as Swansea needed to sign off to their fans like we did at the Valley with our party win last week.

Patently obvious that we need to improve our quality on the ball while keeping a fair amount of solidarity at the back.
Big summer of work needed to give Cafc a chance of being a 60 to 64 point Championship squad with fluidity on the counter attack.
  • It is what it is for us at this level.
This game taught us a lot about what we already knew.
Great season to stay up and have another go next year.
Can't see massive wholesale squad changes.
Pay L Jones and keep Ramsey in place. Hope we get our LWB's back and fit.
Keep Chambers on loan for another year if poss as cover.
Move on Gilly and a couple of others like Cov where poss. Would keep Doc around though.
Main job is to acquire three solid Champ midfielders who can use the ball and are better/stronger athletes. Would sign up Fevrier if we can, there is something about him I like. Not great but could do a job in the squad.
Think we will have enough to survive again with our current forwards being supplied by a better midfield.
Use KelmanTC and Leaburn more and if Godden is fit enough give him another year.
Think it will much the same style as this year but maybe a little more expansive with better midfielders in place.
Just nice to be in the Champ where I feel we belong.
    Nice summer everyone.........

We are so poor on the ball it's embarrassing. Too many poor players in our squad.

    Not an enjoyable watch.

We had nothing really to lose. So why didn’t we go for it rather than give them shooting practice in the latter stages ?

We should have taken a direct shot from just outside the penalty area rather than Gillesphey passing it to Carey who wasted an excellent chance.

They scored from outside the box with a direct kick. Warta’s first goal for the swans. We left too much of a gap to the keepers left. But excellent shot and placement nevertheless.

We can’t keep possession and give the ball away too easily and far too often.

This must and I think will change with a new manager and a changed side with new players.

Owners need to invest in new players and new head coach and assistants if we are to finish in a respectable position next season.

Great header by Leaburn. Nice to see him back on the scoresheet.

I am not really a fan of either Dykes or Kaminski. Seeing them both on the lineups doesn’t ooze confidence in me I’m afraid.

Can somebody get rankin-Costello to change his boots please as there is something rather strange looking about them. He does seem to struggle a bit trying to run fast in them.

We need a no-nonsense manager like the former Leeds manager, Marcelo Bielsa.

Great relief we got the job done against Hull before going into this last encounter with the Swans.

But congratulations to Nathan Jones and his support staff for getting us over the line this season.

I just love the kind of support we gave in our last home game against Hull.

Truly memorable occasion on a perfect and sunny day and a lovely evening ending with joyous celebrations and presentations and unity all round.

    Unforgettable.

Franco and Walta looked lively players for them
yesterday. Not afraid to get on the ball and take players on and try to create. We haven’t got anyone like that.

    Oh, 1 more thing. I’m

I saw on Sky the Bromley players at tte final whistle & Andy Woodman with his arm round Kanu talking to him.

Dont be surprised to see Kanu at Bromley next season. Loan probably but who knows.
Cheek is getting on and has been injured for some time. Questionable as to whether or not he will be able to come back and play at the higher level given that the majority of his career has been non league

It's amazing considering what he's accomplished over the past three seasons that some fans have called for him to be sacked 4-5 times. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but some people don't know they're born.

Really poor midfield play by Coventry and JRC for Swansea's 2nd goal. Both running to the ball side by side, like kids. If one held the middle, they would have cut out the pass.

Coventry then fouls their advancing player for a needless fk for the third.

We really missed Doc. He's been immense defensively in recent weeks, way more aggressive in the press and tackle than Coventry.

Who are these imaginary fans that have called for his sacking 4-5 times?

When we tried to be more expansive we conceded 3 goals and were all over the place defensively. Jones set us up to try and get a result. If we’d been more expansive from the start we’d have been beaten 5-0

    Some interesting insights as always.
But nobody is addressing the big issue:
Totally the wrong place but seems all I can do.
i have sent e mails to administrator but no reply.
i have used at least daily Charlton Life for years.
now so difficult to get into. Need to verify every time then sign in again. Even doing that often cannot log in. I use an I pad.
    any ideas why.
Has @rememberbillybonds managed to sign in yet?

He’ll certainly start the season yes. I wonder what happens if we haven’t kicked on by October/November.

Nothing will happen, and it shouldn’t. I’m sure some of our fans will be silly and jump on his back if we have a slow start, but we need to keep on giving him time and backing to deliver. If we’ve got a good number of new players then it might not be a fast start to next season while they settle in

Derby were 20th in October, they have a good manager so stuck with him and nearly made the play offs. We have a good manager so we should be doing the same, wherever we are in October

  • Read the first couple of pages to get the mood tonight. For me the season ended last week & today I was watching Soccer Saturday with one eye in the Match Thread.

I think this season, encapsulated by today, shows that NJ is not the manager to take you forward if you want to play exciting football & promotion.

Nice man but an awful manager.  Shame he will be here next season and overseeing our transfer policy during the summer.

Just pleased that between now & when next season starts there is the World Cup, the US & British Opens as well as a Test series to look forward to.

    Over & out

Delusional! Who's going to keep us up on the budget we have. Try taking a pop at the owners if you're not happy, actually, when are you happy?
