I did a £5 acca Millwall, Bradford, Chesterfield, Rochdale
    Let's hope you lose then.

We managed a draw away at Southampton. We lost 4-0 at the Den. Think it’s better for us as a club if Millwall go up and I’ll cheer if they do.

    Stevenage I agree on though.

I thought we saw the weakest league one playoffs for many years last year but looks like this years take the biscuit.

I would take anyone but Bolton promoted out of that lot, would certainly make next seasons relegation battle much weaker.
Yes,  the points gap between 2nd and 3rd is a massive 14 points reflecting how ordinary the playoff teams are.

Luton and Plymouth will be gutted they started the season so slowly, as both are probably better now than the 4 teams above them.
Luton missed out to a 92nd minute stevenage win against Wigan
And a ‘goal’ that didn’t even cross the line to boot. Saying that Luton’s penalty, neatly put away by our new signing Jordan Clark, was extremely soft.
    New signing ?

On another thread another poster was adamant we are signing Clark, out of contract at Luton, known to Jones. Probably bollocks though.

The football romantic in me wants the play-off winners to be: Boro, Bolton/Bradford and then Grimsby/Notts County. Those are your biggest clubs of the lot and 'deserve' the promotions on club stature.

I think realistically, it's gonna be Saints or Millwall, Stockport and then I reckon Salford.

For us, we want it to be Southampton and Stevenage. Get one of the parachute payments teams gone, who let's be honest, will only start next season better, and Stevenage who are absolutely pony and will be right down there.

Lincoln have been amazing this season, but if we can't finish above the 3 promoted teams next season,  that would be a massive failure.

I don't see any of the L1 playoff teams doing well next season,  as the step up is so large now

Cardiff could potentially do okay given they have a long recent Championship history and just the one season in League One. Bolton would be the trickiest of the play off teams with the capability to stay up but agree regards the other three Bradford, Stockport, Stevenage. On a personal note Bradford going up would be a new ground for me to visit and back to back promotions would surely be too much for them as well.

It’s huge these days. Much bigger than in previous years.

Would like Bradford to go up as we often lose to Bolton. Stevenage surprises me they have made it in to the play offs for such a small club and they have done the double over Stockport this season so could get to the final.

Are Middlesbrough a bigger club than Southampton? About the same imo.

Bolton have been pretty average this season. We  got 85 points in a L1 with two massively rich sides, whereas they've finished 5th with 75. They'd have to massively strengthen.

Not saying it's not a big step up, however worth remembering only 2 of the last 15 promoted sides from League One has gone straight back down.

Interesting. I wonder how many went down in their second season

Apologies, actually 2 of 15. Should always double check facts I read 🤣

4 have gone down in their second season.

    2022 - N/A
    2023 - Blackpool
    2024 - Rotherham
    2025 - Plymouth
    2026 - Oxford

So in the last 5 years, 4 teams have gone down in their second season. The dreaded second season is a real thing then. I think promotion momentum can really play a part in staying up and doing well in the first season back up but without that in the second season it can be a struggle. Not to give you lot any nerves for next season already of course 😁

I’ve mentioned on here before, our first season back up we finished 8th. Our second season we finished 21st. Avoid the dreaded drop in your second season and I think you’ll go on to be an established championship club again and maybe even challenging top 6 in a couple of years. It’s all about next season though. Massive massive summer ahead for you boys this year. Can’t be understated.

At the risk of being banned myself @MillwallFan I wish you personally all the very best (of course not your team).
Your comments on here are always fair and reasonable.
Having said all that clearly we all hope you don't succeed in the play-offs because - well, you are Millwall and no-one likes you and you don't care!
    All the best mate

Thank you mate. That’s very much appreciated.

As for your last paragraph, well I wouldn’t want it any other way 😁 as I’ve also said on here numerous times, football without rivalry is nothing.

    Thanks again 🙏

Most of the teams from Callumcafc's list that went down are ones you'd expect to struggle, teams who at Championship level are minnows. Lincoln staying up for more than 2 seasons would be a miracle.

We shouldn't be in that category,  as this is our natural level,  but nothing is guaranteed...

Scandalous decision to award Stevenage that goal.
Salford also denied the clearest pen of all time to deny them a chance for automatic promotion.

Doesn’t matter from our viewpoint who gets promoted from Stockport, Bolton, Stevenage or Bradford all would go straight back down.

Stevenage would be the easiest and cheapest away trip. For that reason, I’d also prefer it if Middlesbrough get promoted via the playoffs.

Agree it’ll be a tough slog this time round and I’d probably settle on 21st as well and a potential repeat of this season’s style of play if I’m honest.

Bookies see it as very tight for the Championship Playoffs:

    Southampton 2/1
    Millwall 9/4
    Middlesbrough 9/4
    Hull 6/1

Looks about right as Southampton have potentially two tough matches whereas Millwall should beat Hull comfortably.

Assuming both go as expected I would price the final (to win promotion) at Southampton 1/2 - Millwall 6/4

    It's going to be interesting.
