Be nice if Carey could learn to do that tooBigDiddy said:

Really don’t get the negativity around Anderson. Home grown, still only 21 and improving, has had an excellent loan at Blackpool helping turn them from relegation candidates to one of the most in form sides in the division, really hope Jones finds a place in the squad for himCrispywood said:
We definitely won't be going for players at L2 last year in Iorpenda (L1 huddersfield didnt want him) or JattaGisappointed said:Assuming all those with contracts running down, re-sign, I believe we have a better chance of improving the squad if we go 4-1-3-2 or 4-1-2-3
Mannion
Ramsay/Sichenze/Asiimwe
Jones
Graham/Bell
Edwards
Apter/Fev
De Keersmaeke
JRC/New
Campbell
Kelman
Leaburn/Jatta/New/Kanu
Perhaps four signings, one on a free, one cheap.
As our current set-up:-
Mannion
Ramsay/Sichenze/ Asiimwe
Jones

To replace the five with decent quality will be expensive. I hope Anderson will play a part. Tangerines love him.
Any money spent must be starters. Obviously Graham, De Keersmaeker and Jatta are suggestions. Id also add Iorpenda as a squad addition.
Perhaps go with a four until we are established, then go back to Nathans five.
I'm not sure how you watched Anderson earlier this year and think he's suddenly the solution
Jones is never going to suddenly switch formation as a Plan A considering all his success is with a 352.2 -
thenewbie said:Now we've heard rumours that Carey may go and also that Coventry might also go. Who knows if it's true, maybe one is maybe both but IF it is that's one hell of a gamble. We'd need to replace both with better options and in the meantime our midfield is Docherty (game but limited), Anderson (Docherty but not as good), Knibbs (coming back from injury) and Berry (who is, well, Berry.)
I know we need to improve the midfield but this feels like it's either going to be completely successful or completely disastrous with no in between
Where is this a rumour , its just charlton life speculation seemingly based on 'he had a good season so we are bound to lose him'1 -

Carey is technically very good. Always enjoy watching him take on a man etc.
Problem is we’re just not attacking enough to utilise his strengths. Opponents realised he was our only midfielder able to do anything going forward and second half of the season he was much quieter.Would he look better in a footballing side like a Norwich? Or would he be restricted on the sense he couldn’t fire 2 or 3 speculative long shots a game?
For me anything north of 5 million is a good offer.2 -
Fair point, but we have to clear out quite a few more before we get to Carey, IMO.Leuth said:

Perhaps it’s just my age but all this talk of Carey going for around £5 million is absolutely bonkers. Then again I think football finances are absolutely bonkers so who knows.2
-
£5m in this day and age is the going rate for an averagely good championship player6
-
So we accept £5 million and get an averagely good Championship player as a replacement or hope we can get someone as good or better for less.sam3110 said:£5m in this day and age is the going rate for an averagely good championship player0 -
Mikey Moore is the one i'd like to get in on loan probably way out of our range but can pick up the ball go past players. Suppose it'll be dependant on Spurs division and I'd imagine they'll be higher up clubs willing to pay more for a loan.2
-
A player that I would like us to get is Jordan James, he has been outstanding in a very poor Leicester side. Sadly I think there will be teams with higher budgets will be after him though.2

We spent nothing to get him, so maybe do the same again with another player and use the cash to get a decent playmaker.Scoham said:If we sell Carey I imagine it’s because we’ve had a very big offer. Selling for £2-3m wouldn’t make sense - we’d likely have to spend that to replace him and there’s no guarantee we’d get an equally good or better player, or one that settles in as quickly as he did.
Being a goalscorer we shouldn’t let him go cheaply, and the fact we signed him on a free shouldn’t change that either.0 -
Wrexham or Birmingham I would expect. Came through Brums academy and Wrexham wanting another Welsh international for marketing wouldn't surprise meSouthLondonisRed said:A player that I would like us to get is Jordan James, he has been outstanding in a very poor Leicester side. If the players aren’t either strong, rapid have a engine combined with a good workrate there’s no point in discussing signing those type of players because Jones will never touch themCAFCBourne said:Mikey Moore is the one i'd like to get in on loan probably way out of our range but can pick up the ball go past players. Higher than that, only 21 and was the Championship young player of the season, he's only on loan at Leicester from Stade Rennais, I can see someone like Bournemouth, Brentford, Forest or West Ham taking himMarcusH26 said:

Bournemouth is a cracking shout , I'm a massive fan of Alex Scott as a player but Adams and Cook are both permanently injured so there's a big gap there.sam3110 said:

I think it’s very unlikely we can bring in anyone with a reputation like Jordan James. We are further down the food chain at this moment in time and need to uncover the next Championship young player of the season contenders ourselves.9

The released and retained list coming out at some point this week should give us at least 20 more pages of circular chat…….. : -)10

I’m sorry but I’ve definitely missed something that makes Fullah a viable option to be starting in our midfield next season, he has undoubtedly got talent but people need to get a grip and be real about the level of player needed to progress, please stop this thinking our academy kids are better than they are.13

I see that Dundee announced a wing back signing from Australia today - perhaps covering for an impending exit…10

Getting game time in the Championship at 18 (only recently turned 19) definitely suggests he has a high ceiling.Sword65pf said:
Nothing been done to suggest thisLeuth said:(Fullah's does too)
For comparison, at the same age Carey was in the 6th tier, Berry the 5th tier and Knibbs was in Villa’s academy and didn’t play first team football until he was 20.
Not saying he should be regularly starting, but he’s a player who could develop to be a regular starter over the next few years.8 -
He showed he wasn’t ready, plenty of players have shown promise and gone backwards, nobody knows his ceiling yet. He’s obviously talented but as usual people getting excited prematurely.Scoham said:

I wonder if we'll have a look at Jayden Wareham. 22 years old, 19 goals for relegated Exeter in L1. He's a player with insane work rate and pressing, managed 70 ball recoveries and 44 tackles this season and is extremely fit. I don't know if this was a one season wonder in terms of goals but we really need a striker who presses aggressively to compete with Kelman for that spot and he would be a relatively low cost option. I could see Jones liking him for his work rate6
-
Watched him a few times this season and he is very Godden-like in that he’s not that tall but has the timing and leap on him that means he actually does quite well in the air against much bigger centre backs. Works very hard and leads the line well for a poor sideGarrymanilow said:I wonder if we'll have a look at Jayden Wareham. 22 years old, 19 goals for relegated Exeter in L1. We’ve got enough younger project attackers contracted as it is6 -
Oh good, here I was worrying we were starting to run out of steam...Callumcafc said:The released and retained list coming out at some point this week should give us at least 20 more pages of circular chat…….. : -)3 -
let's wait and see if any club bids for Carey (or any other player we/I value) AND if he wants to sign for said club, only THEN if the club agrees to sell for a good price and Carey wants to go, sell him and wish him fare thee well .. no point at all keeping a player who wishes he was somewhere elseShootersHillGuru said:Perhaps it’s just my age but all this talk of Carey going for around £5 million is absolutely bonkers. (As said many pages above, does anybody really think we can replace Carey for around £2 to 3 Million ?)1 -
The Carey thing is simple.
Big offer = sell him
Cack offer = keep him and support him with better players.5 -
Leuth said:
Knibbs and Fullah are just as likely as Carey to fire next season if we get some decent width imoShootersHillGuru said:
Of course there’s something in balancing the books but not in this case. We struggled this season and we need to strengthen all over the pitch to both survive again and perhaps progress. Taking £3 -4 million for Carey would straight away necessitate spending at least half of that on a replacement who might or might not work out. Personally unless the offers just too good to refuse I think he has to stay.Leuth said:
Of course, but if a decent offer comes in, he's exactly the sort of player we should cash in on to balance the books, is my point. What we need most of all is quality on the wings, and that will take investmentScoham said:
I want to see more quality from the midfield too but I don’t expect us to completely change the way we play. Why don’t we keep him and strengthen the midfield?Leuth said:
'How will we replace his goals?' strikes me as absurd nonsense. We set up this season to feed him shots - it was pretty much our only attacking tactic - and it got us 8 goals. Next season, how's about signing some players who'll feed our actual strikers?Scoham said:
DKD hasn’t proven himself at this level, he’s barely played for Wrexham.FAVADDICK said:
Davis keillor dunn = £2 millioncafc_se7 said:I can’t believe some of these comments on Carey. You lot must live in dreamland if you think we easily get somebody else in who’s better. Particularly for “3 million”.
Morishita ( blackburn ) = £2.1 million
Mehmeti ( ipswich ) = £3 million
Irankunda ( watford ) = £3 million
Thats just a few, it can be done, it just depends on who's doing the shopping for them
You also have to take wages into account, presumably Ipswich pay a lot more than us.
If Carey goes we need to replace his goals, having a better player wouldn’t be enough. We already struggle to score as it is.
Don't think it would make sense selling Carey but even so if you are relying on Knibbs & Fullah as replacements we will be bang in trouble.Garrymanilow said:People are going to have to accept that players like Carey who signed on a free transfer are going to be sold if there's a decent profit to be made. The sustainability rules are pretty restrictive for a club of our size and making a £4-5m profit on a player is something that is unlikely to be turned down regardless of who it is. The focus will then be on finding a suitable replacement, though I wouldn't be that shocked if the replacements were Knibbs and Fullah
Knibbs blows out his arse and has no way demonstrated he could do the job that Carey has done. Fullah needs to learn much more before he could be considered. Personally think a loan would not do him any harm at this stage of his career.4 -
