If Coventry is so rubbish how come he got player of the season from his teammates last season?
Because he is handy to get a lift off of? Because he’ll always lend you a fiver?
Because he brings in wicked homemade cakes?
Because he always remembers your birthday?

It always amuses me to see people criticise players when they don't know what orders they have been given and also if they are carrying knocks.

I agree I do think there is a player in there the same as doc but they have their limits and in all honesty would be used in rotation with upgraded midfielders.

They would also probably fair better as some said with better players around them as they would have to do less running in games as we would have more of the ball,in essence the latter half of the season they are probably burnt out and In docs case he was dropped and got a rest and Coventry had an injury possibly.

I still worry about how players get by them sometimes in games too easily be it pace or energy maybe and the fact teams seem to get too many cut back chances or free shots on the edge of the box which happened against Ipswich and Swansea in recent memory too often it's like they are planted in the back 5 or out of position.

Have been a Cov fan since we signed him but personally think we need better and Doc adds more to the team than he does. Need someone who can put their foot on the ball and play a pass IMHO.

Except We were told Coventry had a problem with his hip, we brought in Coady gave Coventry a proper rest he came back into the team and performed no better then he did with his hip injury and surely the orders wouldn’t influence the fact Coady played the exact same role and did a much better job

Coady very much did a different job, one that was suited for rearguard away performances.

Look at Coady's pass for Kelman's goal against Hull. Is Coventry being instructed to not pass forwards like that? Not impossible but seems unlikely.

Except he made plenty of passes like that this season. This is absolutely selective memory. 'He can't pass forward' is just not true. Also you say it like Coady played a destructive through ball rather than a long ball into the wide channel that resulted, eventually, in a worldie strike

Here's one that didn't take me long to find, at 3:55 into this video. Resulted in TC missing from 4 yards

I can't see Conor Coventry involved in anything at 3:55.

Regardless, we've all seen enough of Conor to know his limitations when it comes passing. Saying his forward passing is limited is not the same as saying he literally never passes forwards. I just don't accept the idea that his lack of progressive passing is because he's instructed not to.

I think having Doc and Cov as the two options in the 6 is fine, what we need is a progressive box-to-box 8 next to one of them with JRC as the back up to the new 8.

Think the 8 is the key to everything really. Needs to be someone that can get on the ball and run the show. Won't be cheap but I'm sure PC has got the air miles in and Wyscout fired up since Jan.

Cool with having Doc and Cov as squad players that's fine by me.

If we go into the season with either Coventry or Docherty starting in our best XI we haven’t recruited properly, both completely fine as squad players but that’s it

It is the only international friendly happening today and I presume it is outside of any Fifa sanctioned window as the next international friendly is next weekend. Not even a chance for domestic players to play for their country as the LOI had fixtures last night as usual
