I like Edwards but i'd say he was playing at full tilt / right at the limit of his ability in the games at the start of this season and i can't see how a significant injury and a year out is going to help. I hope he comes back and does the business.Crispywood said:
He’s not proven but there’s nothing I’ve seen from Edwards that suggests he can’t make the step up, one of our most underrated players last year due to him being a fullbackSouthbank said:
That is what (some deluded) people said about Apter after a few games. Edwards is a good player, but not fully proven in the Champ.Crispywood said:
Such quality that Huddersfield decided Iorpenda was worth loaning to L2 and not worth a recall in January.Gisappointed said:
His name is Tom Iorpenda. L2 but young and quality.Crispywood said:
Carey absolutely works as a CAM in the style Jones wants to play, what we need is that box crashing attacking midfield that suits the system and style but who can do basics level of creativity in addition to that opposed to Carey offering minimal passing ability000__Jaaaaay__000 said:
What’s the main purpose of an centre attacking midfielder? In a formation that has hardly any attacking players, to me having a creative player who makes chances for others is crucial for us to have a successful team who carves out chances, Carey is not that player, he might have an eye for goal and be good carrying the ball but it’s not what we need in that position.NabySarr said:I think expectations are getting a bit out of hand if we are considering Carey a player that we must upgrade on
Carey scores goals, lots of energy to press from the front, carries the ball well. You really think we can sign a player that does all of that well and then is also a championship level chance creator and quality passer? That’s basically saying we need to sign a player that’s one of the best players in the championship if they’ve got all that, it’s just not realistic
It’s like saying we need to sign a player like TC that also has end product. Good luck!
Carey will rightly remain first choice next season, hopefully with Knibbs being fitter to push him for that spot and mean Carey doesn’t get overcooked again
Gallagher is a great example but obviously won’t get someone as good at this level
Neither Bell nor Edwards are LWBs. LB or LCB at best.Regarding Edwards it wasn’t a debate what his position is, it’s is he a championship level player which based on the small sample we’ve seen he absolutely is5 -
I don't think anyone underrates him, certainly I don't. As long as he comes back as fit as before and with no adverse reaction to the injury he'll be one of the first names on the team sheet every week.Crispywood said:

That’s not how I remembered it, I thought he looked absolutely fine at the level and was one of our most consistent players until his injury. He’s only 25 so plenty of scope for him to get even better tooDOUCHER said:

realistic, not over promising, claims we overachieved last season. I read it as there will be some money to spend on players but not as much as most of us hoped for.clive said:
Very true about the 'logjam' of players still under contract and still needing to be paid and how difficult it might be to move them on.4 -
Agree on Edwards - I’d start him all day long ahead of Reece Burke or god forbid harry clarke if we bought him back - I like bell think sichenje showed enough and once jones as back 3 .. Edward’s decent enough at wing back but would rather have bree’s delivery …of there was any chance we could get him back1

Now they are staying in the Championship I think they make keep him. Who knows.Neil01 said:Agree on Edwards - I’d start him all day long ahead of Reece Burke or god forbid harry clarke if we bought him back - I like bell think sichenje showed enough and once jones as back 3 .. A few of the ones under contract that we want to move on were only signed last season. They proved to be not good enough (or didn't fit in with how we play). It will be hard to sell them as I expect only League 1 clubs will be interested & the player may have to take a cut in wages.Lincsaddick said:

Let's hope we dont make the same mistake this summer4 -
I'll be interested to see the blend of players we bring in. I'm erring towards a couple of domestic champ experienced free agents (Clarke would obviously fit that) and the bulk of the fees being spent abroad1

Bizarre post. Why on earth would a crippled centre back in Burke even be considered to play LWB? Choosing Bree over Edwards for his delivery and then playing him on the left makes no sense either.Neil01 said:Agree on Edwards - I’d start him all day long ahead of Reece Burke or god forbid harry clarke if we bought him back - I like bell think sichenje showed enough and once jones as back 3 .. Been told Jordan Holsgrove is one we are after

Interesting link. Scottish so no work permit issues but has spent 4 years in Portugal and was in Spain before that.stjohnshill said:Been told Jordan Holsgrove is one we are after1 -
If true we must be getting the chequebook out. Transfermarkt values him at 5m. 8 assists in 33 playing defensive midfield. Very good passer supposedly.stjohnshill said:Been told Jordan Holsgrove is one we are after3 -
Exactly the profile we need.stjohnshill said:Been told Jordan Holsgrove is one we are after9 -
Interesting one as he’s a very technical midfielder looking at FM.ButtleJR said:

He wins the ball a lot and looks to play forward as often as he can. Would be an exciting one, but no doubt there’d be strong competition.10

I suppose the positive for this is that we are actually in a position TO compete for players instead of rummaging around for players that no-one else particularly wants....Callumcafc said:He wins the ball a lot and looks to play forward as often as he can. Bet he ends up at Preston17

He'll end up at Southampton. They've bugged Phil Chapple's phone.Charlton43 said:Bet he ends up at Preston14 -

Great passing range and seems to be playing deep. Could be Coventry's upgrade.1 -
Like the look of that holsgrove, was scouring the net for info in forums about him and there isn't too much tbh but I did find this translated comment on the hamburger sv forum : ) after they was linked with him last August.
"I'm pleased by the rumor, because Holsgrove is by no means a pure defensive midfielder, even if he's described that way here. He's more of a central midfielder, but can also play as a number 10. Technically gifted, with good vision, relatively quick, and, as his statistics show, a prolific scorer. While I personally would prefer a classic number 10, offensively he's every bit as good as the existing players. I'd even rank him above Remberg and Capaldo in attack.
Furthermore, at Estoril he plays in one of the two central midfield positions in a 5-3-2 or 3-5-2 system"
Sound's right up our street tbh.5 -
98% of his passes are forward….will NJ be able to deal with that lol11

We hope that NJ will not issue instructions that restrict forward passing.Chunes said:Holsgrove obligatory highlights video:

I think NJ has said he doesn't instruct the midfield to pass sideways and backwards. If anything he'd like to get it forward more quickly. But Cov and Doch are not great passers.9

Bell should not play LWB either. We definitely need to bring in another fully fit champ level LWB, or we will face seeing TC playing there again.arny23394 said:

I really hope Edwards makes it, both fitness and skill wise. But hope is not a strategy.8
