There have been a few comments on here asking if Southampton had spied on us, or suggesting they may have.

I asked Google AI for the definitive position on this, and it has confirmed that the answer is no, they didn't spy on us, for some very clear reasons.

Our performance against Southampton at home was definitely to League One standards.

I would expect Southampton to have a thorough investigation and sack all of those involved for gross misconduct. I have a small amount of sympathy for the intern as he was probably acting under instruction. But this is Southampton.. it’ll all probably be brushed under the carpet
Doubt they will sack the manager.
I honestly don't see how he can keep his job. For the club to gain any ounce of respect back over this, the owner has to condemn their actions and sack him and his staff.
Fair enough....just hope the owner wasn't in on it to.

They will if the EFL give him a one year ban!?
It will be The FA who determine any individual sanction.

The home drubbing to Soton was possibly the beginning of the end for Rob Apter - hooked on 24 mins at 0-4. That game certainly didn't help his cause, anyway.

I think we’re getting a bit carried away if we think a) Southampton spied on us (as yet they haven’t admitted to this), b) the things they gleaned from that endeavour is why they obliterated us in that first half of our home match, c) this led to our form going off a cliff.
Agreed they were miles better than us on the day. Not sure where they could have spied. Having been to Eltham it's a massive site with a drive to the area.

Where does Eckert go from here after a, surely, inevitable departure?

    Will anyone else hire him?

Obviously he has a much better reputation but Bielsa hasn't struggled since. He'll have to drop down a rung or two and he won't manage in England for a while, if ever, but he'll be fine for a 2. Bundesliga side or similar

I have a mate who lives in Eastleigh. We've been all over the UK watching Charlton... This year him and his son have been watching Southampton instead of Charlton .... That will teach them. I am staying in Southampton Monday night interesting to hear the buzz and excuses in the city.

Wrexham forward Josh Windass has called for the Championship play-offs to be replayed with the Welsh club taking the place of Southampton.

The media world will definitely support that..
Zero chance of this happening because there's a ruling in place that all club matches have to be played by 24 May ahead of players joining up with squads for the world cup. It's why the Championship final was moved from it's usual Monday to the Saturday, and why the EFL are desperate to get the final played on this date without having to move it.

Only the Champions and Conference league finals are exemptions from this.
A ruling by whom ?  FIFA (who run the WC) or the EFL (who run the play offs).

Silly pricks, no it's not, their cheating led them to be able to get to the playoffs at all (no chance it was just 3 games) so kicking them out the playoffs is the least they deserved.

Bringing up past infringements of completely different rules, in completely different divisions in completely different scenarios means fuck all, like saying well that guy got away with a murder in Azerbaijan and another guy got away with stealing a car in Argentina so my armed assault in the UK shouldn't stand

The Luton comparison is a massive piss take, that club was put into the stone age by that decision for years

Yes, the World Cup exacerbates the situation - bizarrely, I hadn't factored that in!

I just hope to hell that the new appeals board don't just crumble under the pressure, this has gone on long enough and needs putting to bed for 'Boro and Hull's sake, and the long suffering fans ffs......

If there’s any pressure then I’d imagine it will be to not reinstate Southampton.

Be interesting to hear what Mike Channon and Matt Le Tissier have to say……both loyal and somewhat outspoken ex players……I imagine they’ll tell it like it is, no holds barred.

At least he's making some sort of sense, even if I don't agree with him. Was fully expecting him to blame chemtrails, vaccines and space lizards.

The reason we have referees in games, for good or bad, is supposed to ensure a fair game, and they have the power to directly deal with cheating such as a dive for a penalty.
There is no sensible comparison to be made with shithousery in a refereed game and secret spying against explicit rules.

A radical solution to this issue for the future.
Every team can send a scout to the training of their next opponent to report back what is being done, this be done through out the season, then no one can pull any surprise set pieces ,  or open play ones on each other.
    Great idea.
Then send them the team sheet 48 hours before KO and allow them into the opposition changing room for 2 hours before kick off.
