York away in the southern section of the league cup? It could happen.

If Crystal Palace win the Europa Conference League it could lead to Rochdale, Tranmere or York being placed in the southern section of the draw.

Due to the amount of English clubs in Europe there would be the potential that a 2 tie preliminary round, as happened in 25/26 (and it was regionalised) would be required. That would mean one of the 3 very much northern teams facing off against Crawley for a spot in the first round.

The draw for the first round was made before the results of those ties was known, which therefore could lead to the northern side staying in the southern half of the draw (if they beat Crawley), or the first round draw being delayed until after those matches have been played.
