  • If we're reminiscing on the RD era then I say bring back Anil Koc
I had some ointment for that once

I thought Amdy Faye was decent as LCB. Not a midfielder.

When was the last time we had a central midfielder who could consistently really dictate and control a game? I feel like we're just not that kind of club. Cullen was never that deep controlling pivot and had some runs in the side where he was fairly anonymous, JFC never really managed to pull it off either. Dobson was reverse control, he was all about putting out fires instead of preventing them. McGrandles couldn't do it, Kilkenny couldn't do it, Taylor couldn't do it and I don't think Coventry or Coady have really managed it either. I'd really love a deep-lying midfielder who other teams look at enviously and ends up being nicked by a promotion or lower PL side, it feels like a kind of player we just don't know how to identify no matter who's in charge of the club
A bit harsh on Amdy Faye I must say.
I remember one day at school, my Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal etc supporting friends were having an argument about who had the best midfielder at the time. They turned to me and asked me who Charlton had in central midfield, and I had to say Amdy Faye. It wasn't a great

The worst player ever to wear the shirt and that’s a very low bar.

Without romanticising the RD era, there are a fair few players that would make us a lot better.

Jorge Teixeira was another that would look very tidy in a Top 6 challenging champ team.

If we can attract that kind of quality from overseas we’ll be doing well.

"Coventry stands still" yeah exhibit 379473 in why I have to step in against the slander. He has his deficiencies, this is about as far from one of them as it's possible to get
    What are his deficiencies?
Mostly physical power/dominance, think in terms of technicality, discipline and stamina he's at the level. Maybe his vision and mental game could be worked on in possession but that's definitely something that can improve. Him being not the biggest or fastest bloke in the world...that won't improve

With many of our narrow and nervy wins last season, it would have been lovely to have someone to keep the ball at the end like Tony Watt famously did.

Relative to the standard he was recruited for maybe, but worst ever, that’s pushing it.

True. That honour, on a pound for pound basis, belongs to the useless Djimi Traroe.

I may have made this up, but weren't they both signed on the same day?

That definitely rings a bell. What a day, how did we ever go down with such a double coup!

Traores debut was spectacular as well if I recall against west ham 2 yellow cards in the first half.

Possibly not the very worst (Paul Gilchrist anyone ?) but considering that he won the European cup with the bin dippers he was absolutely abysmal.

No rumours. Said someone not at the club thought Holsgrove might be out of our price range but that was a guess

Could we rescue Joe Aribo's career and pick him up on a free transfer 😀

Joe being a religious lad like our Nathan surely won't let a 80% drop in wages stop him coming back to the club that put him in the shop window at 18🙄

I believe this may be a rhetorical question 🤷🏿‍♂️

Our worst player has to be Ross Worner. The highest level he ever played was when he accidentally played 8 L1 games for us and beyond that he managed to cling on in L2 for a couple of years before going back to conference football. Totally, horrifically out of his depth. Even Dean Sinclair managed a few L1 loans

From what I saw of him last season I'd rather we didn't. Now a busted flush imo.

Not counting youth players, the worst player we've signed to ever play for us falls into two categories. You've got a good candidate for 'worst overall career'. But worst player to ever play for us based on how good they were when they played for us? Easy. Joe Ledley

Players lose their way and when Joe went from Rangers to the Saints his career came to a halt.
In the 21/22 season Aribo played 70 matches for club and Country where he played more games than anyone in the top flight in Europe as Rangers got to the final of the Uefa final in which he scored.

You are welcome to your opinion but if Joe got his act together at 29 he would be an excellent acquisition as long as he got the ball to his feet and not 'passes' six feet over his head.

The Leicester loan was a disaster as well.

It won't happen but it's good to have a bit of fun in the tense world of football; or could it 🤔
