Mrs and I are heading for the Cotsworld for a few days at the end of June to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Does anyone have any suggestions for places to go and see?. I've only been there on business a few times so a new area for us to explore.
Any suggestions would be welcome
. Cheers 0 -

Not technically in the Cotswolds, but right on its edge, is Swindon. Well worth a day enjoying the splendid town centre.CheshireAddick said:Mrs and I are heading for the Cotsworld for a few days at the end of June to celebrate our wedding anniversary. In the Lake District this week, staying close to Derwent Water. Forecast was for a week of rain up until about ten days ago but so far we've had sun every day. It's really gorgeous if you like getting out and about with your dog.
Above is Crummock Water, taken on my crappy motorola 2 -

Chedworth Roman Villa is a must see if you are into your history.
Also Bilbury, Broadway, Stow on the Wold, and Castle Combe villages are worth a visit.
And the model village at Bourton on the Water is great!1 -
I will never forget my fist flight which was from Manston to Perpignan, over 60 years ago.It was a prop plane,we were in the departure lounge (basically a shed) called for the flight(only one there got on plane, then told to get off.got off to witness 3 of four props working ,one not moving,Told to get back on,(still only 3 moving, now petrified,a plane had come down in the pyrenees a few weeks before.Got back on waited a good half hour before ,"we will be taking off in 5 minutes.Luckily I could not see if all 4 props where moving, but i have to say I was bricking it as was everbody else.Worse 3 hour of my life.DaveMehmet said:

plane landed in Kazakstan and Russia were rowing with them so they refused to refuel us. Cue a two hour wait where they let us all off to have snowball fights under the plane and to smoke as many fags as we could. There was then rumour a hat was going round to buy the fuel 😂
another time our “stewardess” got pissed up and ended up snogging the fella behind us sitting on his lap.Another time I witnessed 2 or 3 stewards trying to shut the plane door and when it wouldn’t they got the captain to come out and shoulder barge the door shut.Food and drink was basically poison. No films.Once got on a flight in Bangkok with a chap so off his nut they had strapped him to a sack barrow like Hannibal Lecter. As I say it was cheap though 😂✊
Went with Balkan Airlines once.
Plane never made it to Sofia airport but a military base some way away.
Landed and went into some sort of lounge with bar.
Mass brawl taking place between pissed up natives.
As you say, cheap though.
Another one was early days Malaysian Airlines where the meal was a pot noodle.
The ones where you constantly focus on the propellers and prey they don’t stop, always added to the excitement.0 -
Surely you mean the train museum ?SporadicAddick said:

Sorry, more holidays
. I'm heading to Vienna next week for 3 nights then taking a boat on the Danube to Bratislava for 3 nights. Any recommendations for sightseeing, restaurants and bars would be more than welcome. Cheers all. 0 -

How have people found the delays at EU airports since the new entry rules came into to place?0
-
We went to Athens a few weeks ago and passport control took about 2 minutes. They had turned EES off and we were processed manually with only have to wait approx. 1 minute behind 1 passenger. They didn't even bother stamping our passports. We travle to the EU about 4 or 5 times a year and still not had to do the EES and not had any queues apart from the time before last into Gibraltar when we had to queue for about 15 minutes as flights arrive and depart in clusters rather than even spaced out throughout the dayMrOneLung said:How have people found the delays at EU airports since the new entry rules came into to place?
Next trip in 2 weeks is to Cyprus where they don't do them as not in Schengen (yet)1 -
Croatia (today!) - no problems at all. Took photo and finger prints in about 1 minute. No longer than a usual passport control queue.2

I’m lucky enough to go to Spain once a month and have not seen any issues at any of the 3 airports I fly into regularly. The EES stuff in the press is just the press doing their thing0

Off to Samoa in September. One good thing about living in NZ is that places like Fiji and Samoa are no more than 3-4 hours away.1

I believe Greece have suspended EES this summer - that's what we were told last week arriving in Rhodes. And passport stamping of UK passports within Europe has now been agreed to stop as of October I thinkPrincessFiona said:

I've had a couple bad experiences with it and not actually travelled in Europe that much in the time its been in place. In particular in Geneva Airport Feb last year which I used a lot in the past as my wife (then girlfriend) worked there for 6 months and I had always said it was the most efficient major airport I'd used. But last year with the EES it was awful. Hours queuing in a corridor. No access to toilets, multiple people fainting due to standing in a hot corridor for that length of time. People's coaches and connections leaving without them. Awful experience.AndyG said:I’m lucky enough to go to Spain once a month and have not seen any issues at any of the 3 airports I fly into regularly. The dream! Do you dive? Meant to be some of the best diving in the world around there. Healthy reefs and rare wildlife - whale sharks and mantas etc.Danepak said:Off to Samoa in September. One good thing about living in NZ is that places like Fiji and Samoa are no more than 3-4 hours away.0 -
We are going to Samoa in January 2029 part of a 101 nights cruise starting in Athens and ending in Auckland via the Middle East, Australia and 5 weeks cruising around the South Pacific islands. Should be a tremendous adventure, but 21/2 years away, had to book so early as it’s a very unique cruise itinerary and will book up very quickly.1

Heading to Rhodes this week with the mrs
anyone been and recommend any good restaurants or things to do while out there ?0 -
Going to Petaloudes Valley to see the Tiger Moths was undoubtedly the best thing I did on Rhodes. Prasonisi Beach was good to see, because it's so unusual to have a beach with sea on both sides. After an initial ten minutes of wonder though, you realise that it's no better or worse than any other beach. Rhode's is a pleasant place. Have a great time!CharltontillidieCOYR said:Heading to Rhodes this week with the mrs

Yes but what's your favourite genre of music?Algarveaddick said:January - London for the Sheff Utd and Derby games, plus want to take in the Gilbert & George and Joseph Wright of Derby exhibitions.
February - Torremolinos for the Rockabilly weekender.
March - Hemsby for the Rockabilly weekender.
June - Algeciras for the Teddy Boy weekender.
July - road trip for the wife's 60th, Oxford, Clovelly, Burgh Island and somewhere TBC.
Got a flight back from the UK booked for the end of August, but not sure when or where are going before, we normally look after Karen's mum in August but if she's still with us then, it will be a miracle (we are hoping she hangs on until this weekend when we are coming over for two nights)...
September - Coimbra for the Rockabilly weekender.
December - Valencia for the Rockabilly weekender.3 -
Lindos old town much nicer than Rhodes old town imo. But depends what end of the island you are in terms of travel time. Loads of great history both ancient Greek and WW2.CharltontillidieCOYR said:Heading to Rhodes this week with the mrs

I'm sure Auckland Addicks would be happy to catch up for a beer or two while you're in town. You've definitely given us enough notice!CharltonKerry said:We are going to Samoa in January 2029 part of a 101 nights cruise starting in Athens and ending in Auckland via the Middle East, Australia and 5 weeks cruising around the South Pacific islands.
