I don't think he's had a good game in about 2 years. The move to Saints didn't work out and he looks like he's completely lost interest in being a footballer, couldn't even get a game for L1 bound Leicester. Not a chance. He looked out of place as a 20 year old in the 3 minutes of Championship football he played for us. He's gone on to play European football at a respectable level, he was just the wrong signing at the wrong time. I think people forget just how bad the players we had were in L1 around 09-11. Bally Smart signed for us on a non-contract basis because even we knew he was rubbish but he was just there to make up the numbers for a team who had absolutely no resources to work with. He'd failed to break into MK Dons' L2 team, played a few games for a third division Greek team and then made one appearance for us in a League Cup game where we lost 4-3 to a L2 team after being 3-0 up. After that he played 8 league games for Skonto Riga in Latvia without ever completing 90 minutes and then never played for another team despite only being about 22. In 43 years of watching Charlton games I have only seen one player kick the ball out of play when trying to make a simple pass and shrug his shoulders to say "so what" when another player lambasted him.
Not only that but it was in the league cup quarter final against a League Two side.
It was Amdy Fay.
He may not be the least talented player to play for us ever, but he is the worst; in that he is the one I would most hate ever to see return to The Valley for any reason. Everything bad about modern day football.

However, in the context of what happened around his signing and time with us - i.e. being signed as a replacement for Yann who was, pound for pound, one of the best strikers we've had the last 30 or 40 years, a club legend, and went on to have such a successful time at Bournemouth; that we were rumoured to have paid a decent fee; and yet he ended up playing only a handful of minutes in one game - he has to be right up there for worst ever signing.1 -
Simon Church. And don’t give me that he played a load of games - that goes against him as he had ample chance to not be absolutely awful.1

No way. Played for us in the Championship for starters which puts him miles ahead of some of the true L1 dross we had but also as much as he was nowhere near good enough he had his moments. Rescued a point for us against Barnsley, scored in that rearranged Doncaster game that was hugely important to our survival, got an important winner against Blackburn, got the assist for Jackson's last minute equaliser against Ipswich on New Year's Day and was actually a big part of our run to the FA Cup quarter finals; two assists against Oxford in the 3rd round and then got the winners against Huddersfield and then Sheff Weds to take us to within a game of Wembley before Duchatalet made a hash of it all. We stayed up by 7 points that season so he was undeniably a factor in that side miraculously not going down. Yes we would have liked to have had a better player but given that we spent £0 on players that summer bringing in 4 frees and 2 loans I'd say his contribution was actually outsized compared to his ability. He's not even in the conversation for worst player. He was basically a better Dave Mooney so you've got to have a look at Mooney before him anyway.daveydanger said:Simon Church. Yep, that was the next season where he was correctly moved to be a backup striker once we brought some more players in. He assisted Igor in the 2-2 against Brighton, won the penalty to win the game against Cardiff and scored against Blackpool and, hilariously, Reading in that run that kept us up under Luzon. I seem to remember he said in an interview that he had his 9 shirt taken off him without being told because Peeters wanted to send a message that he wasn't wanted. I don't think it even went to anyone else because Eagles ended up taking it when he signed in February.
