Summer Window 2026 - Rumours and Discussion

That is a beauty of a rumour. The kind you don't hear about anymore. Feels realistic as well, we clearly enjoy scouting the Scottish leagues. Looks like he had a good season as well, 8 goals and 4 assists in the league across 36 games and he wasn't out injured for any period of time. A goal and an assist in the cup as well, feels like a smart signing if hospital-going West Ham staff are to be believedClem_Snide said:Genuine left field rumour time. Visiting my mum in hospital today and picked up a drink from Costa on my way out.Two blokes in West Ham training kit were chatting in the queue in front of me and mentioned that we (Charlton) were in for one of their former players Emmanuel Longelo.Left back currently at Motherwell. Looks to have a year left on his contract.
No idea whether it was idle gossip or whether they were ITK, but thought it was worth passing on.10 -
Number of times I’ve been listening to 5Live about Scottish football and a lot of pundits say Motherwell have played the best football in the SPL and are a very good watch.9

Played as a striker for West Ham Academy2

His older brother Rosaire played for Salford in the p/off y/day (no 45) .. he i m o looked good, pacy, direct in attack, can tackle, was fouled a lot and was replaced as he did a LOT of running .. similar background to his bro, West Ham, then Newcastle, then lower leaguesClem_Snide said:Genuine left field rumour time. Agree with this. I think he is a great profile of player to compete with / add completion to Josh on the left.TelMc32 said:
He’s just had a full season in a Motherwell side who looked very decent, certainly in the games after the split that I saw against Rangers, Hearts & Celtic. He also scored 9 goals from left back, so obviously likes getting forward. I want Josh back fully fit, but we can’t rely on one player per position and can see both playing, as Longelo looks like he could play further upfield with Josh behind.cafc-4-life said:
Looking at his career stats it doesn't scream like a signing we want to make as a first choice left back.Clem_Snide said:Genuine left field rumour time. Hoping that this doesn't mean Edwards is out for even the start of next season.Transfermarkt suggests €1.5m valuation, but Motherwell have an option on top of the year left on his contract.
We need 4 options across RWB and LWB.
We currently have 1 in contract and he has been injured for most of the season just gone.
Would see a LWB and two right sided options coming in over the summer.15 -
I love Anderson’s workrate but think his ceiling as an all round midfield footballer is League One and NJ will not carry passengers with Champ and above in mind. Likewise, Assiimwe, after a fair start he appeared to drop off at Wimbledon so hardly a glowing reference for things to come. Re Kanu, hoping his contract is extended before a League One loan or agree, will be out the door. Former may be a smart move as will likely attract a higher fee or be more Champ ready if he has a good season with a League one side.NabySarr said:
I’d be surprised if Anderson is allowed to move permanently. He will hopefully do a full year in league 1 and then be ready for us in the championship if all goes well. I think the same is probably true with AsiimwePavoren007 said:
I think there will be a mix of perm and loan outgoings, the loans in cases where it less likely we can find permanent homes too easily. Where the loans end up will be a fair indicator of the players’ ‘level’ though that said the more talented younger kids loaned would likely start at National League or League Two.Charlton43 said:Realistically, who do we think we can shift out of the door to make way for incomings?
Perms: A Mitchell, Gillesphy, Assiimwe, Anderson + Kaminski or Mannion
Loans: Ahadme, Tanto, Apter, Kanu
If the above is about right, can see us bringing in around 6 but all a step up in quality. Probably needs to be more but think if 4-5 of those are starters next year and with Josh Edwards returning etc., will be about right. We could spread the money we have broader but suspect the trade off would
be reduced quality. I know what I would rather have.
Kanu is more likely to move permanently due to his contract situation. I think he will either be in our first team squad or he will be sold. If I was him I wouldn’t be signing a new contract just to go out on loan again7 -

I doubt we have the money to buy in enough higher quality players to transform the first 11 into a solid Championship level team.
My guess is that the strategy will be to hold on to our best players and loan in most of the higher quality ones we need ( basically what we did at Xmas but for a whole season). This will enable us to stay in the middle of the Champ and then be able to attract better quality players in a year's time.
If we can get the Gallagher/ Cullen type loanee I would be very happy with that.1 -
We’re gonna have to do some serious damage in the loan market this year. Could be the difference8

Absolutely this. NJ deciding to reverse his decision on loans in January saved us.Charlton43 said:We’re gonna have to do some serious damage in the loan market this year. Could be the difference
Hopefully we can add a few quality permanents and the rest quality loans.
I hope we can add two rwbs, a lwb, a left sided cb, two midfielders and a striker.3 -
No point in signing him then 😉LargeAddick said:Number of times I’ve been listening to 5Live about Scottish football and a lot of pundits say Motherwell have played the best football in the SPL and are a very good watch.4 -
Crucially, he didn’t reverse his decision. He isn’t really against loans. He’s against loaning young players. We’ve loaned a player in every window he’s been in charge of and they’ve all been pros with some experience behind them. He just doesn’t want to develop the next Gallagher and have the club not get the reward for itAddicksi said:

Dewsbury-Hall going on to be a baller has scarred poor Nath2 -
If we’d just had that last season we’d have been well clear of any trouble. Just having enough good players to cover each position will already be an improvementDamoNorthStand said:

Fevrier is a must because he can cover a variety of positions, particularly both wing-backs or full-backs if we go to a four.6

A rare exception but also someone who may well have been (and still may be I suppose) available to buy this summer.Arry Addick said:

I think the exception was because we’d hardly won a game for 2 months and he was simply the best left wing back available to us. Turned out to be a good move for all 3 parties but I think it was desperation on our partfenaddick said:

I’m not sure I would fancy Fev as a fullback in a 4 tbhGisappointed said:Fevrier is a must because he can cover a variety of positions, particularly both wing-backs or full-backs if we go to a four.12 -
True but we also had Thomas playing Lb at one point and brought in a LB in Penney and somehow he made us worse.NabySarr said:

I hope we can add two rwbs, a lwb, a left sided cb, two midfielders and a striker.I’m not desperate to get Chambers, but he’s never making it at Liverpool so if we can get him on a free and just offer them a hefty sell on could be good business. Also important to consider with him was that he was out for a year with a back injury and is still only 21 so he arguably has a lot of scope for improvement1 -
He’ll have a culture shock playing for Nathan Jones then.LargeAddick said:Number of times I’ve been listening to 5Live about Scottish football and a lot of pundits say Motherwell have played the best football in the SPL and are a very good watch.4 -
He is a better WB, but at least I've seen him close down a winger and prevent a cross. Oh for Wiggins.Covered_End_Lad said:

When you say "a step up in quality", do mean "compared to those we are letting go" or "compared to those remaining in our first team squad"? Ideally, we need the latter if we are to avoid another relegation fight, but I believe the former is the best we will be able to do.Pavoren007 said:

True, but buggers can't be boozers. If we get him free or swapped for Olaofe, then it's a "utility" player gained without hassle.J BLOCK said:

My own preference for a cheap buy would be the even more versatile and more experienced Joe Powell, now at just relegated Rotherham. Could "do a job" as third choice in even more positions.
Although I have not noticed him playing lately. Is he injured?1 -
Thing is, they knew about our interest because they'd just been visiting Longelo after his double hip, double knee replacement and foot amputationClem_Snide said:Genuine left field rumour time.
